There was still time for more drama as Maritzburg got a penalty in stoppage time after goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene tripped down Amadou Soukouna in the box and Soukouna made no mistake from the spot-kick, as he fired his strike under Mweene to hand Maritzburg a famous win. Sundowns increased their intensity after that and they were awarded a penalty seven minutes before time after a handball by Allie in the box but Zwane's spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Engelhardt back into play and cleared from danger. The visitors were patient on the ball and Shalulile eventually got his reward eight minutes before the halftime break with a glancing header in between two defenders in the box after a cross by Mkhulise.
