'You're a ******* animal' - 5 things we learned from the Six Nations (RugbyPass)

France remain in Grand Slam contention, with Ireland the only team capable of denying them the Guinness Six Nations title.

Even if France go on to complete the Grand Slam, Ireland will be able to reflect on a satisfying Six Nations that bodes well for the World Cup next year – as long as they have not fallen into their customary trap of peaking too soon. But what emerged from the Principality Stadium was a new respect for the defence overseen by Shaun Edwards as waves of Welsh attackers were repelled by the blue wall. As well as being integral to the dominance of the home scrum, he was magnificent on both sides of the ball and when a team-mate could be heard on the ref mic saying “you’re a ******* animal Genge” it was meant as a compliment.

Wales, Ireland and Scotland warned they'll never win Six Nations ... (WalesOnline)

Talk was raised again about the world champion Springboks coming on board after Italy went down to a 36th straight defeat.

“The problem with international rugby is that it is the result of long-term athletic development. Wales have never won a game in South Africa in the history of matches between the two nations, which date back to 1906. "I’m going to say something here. “That cannot happen. Nevertheless, private equity form CVC, who have taken a sizeable stake in the Six Nations, are said to want to grow the tournament and feel the pulling power of South Africa would create huge new commercial opportunities. “Unless there’s fundamental change, the drumbeat for South Africa to be in this is going to get louder.”

That's the best I've seen Italy play over the last couple of seasons. "It's been a tough venue for Scotland over the years. The day started well for Italy with Paolo Garbisi slotting over the first points of the game in the third minute of what was a scrappy contest in the early stages.

Eddie Jones: England 'showed great spirit and tactical discipline' (planetrugby.com)

Eddie Jones is proud of his England side's efforts playing with 14-men but questions referee Mathieu Raynal for not penalising the Irish scrum.

There were 82,000 people there that loved seeing the spirit of this team.” “This pack is only going to get better and better. “It was a great learning experience for this team. “We showed great spirit and great tactical discipline. We got four scrum penalties and there was no sign of a yellow card,” Jones said. That would be my only complaint – we were not allowed to play advantage away from the scrum.

What needs to happen for Ireland to win the Six Nations (Pundit Arena)

Just one round of the 2022 Six Nations Championship remains, with France and Ireland the only two sides capable of winning the tournament.

If England and Scotland lose, Wales could overtake both of them with a bonus-point win against Italy, although a loss for the Welsh in Cardiff would resign Wayne Pivac’s men to a fifth-place finish. If Les Bleus draw against England but score four tries in doing so, they will be awarded three points, which would be enough for them to win the tournament if Ireland failed to secure a bonus-point win against Scotland. If France lose against England, with or without a losing bonus-point and a try bonus-point, and Ireland beat Scotland by any margin, the men in green will win the championship.
