The rain fell heavily at Loftus, but that did not stop the Bulls and Sharks from delivering a highly entertaining Currie Cup clash.
From the resulting phases, a grubber was then stabbed down the left flank, where wing Madosh Tambwe finished calmly. In the end, a total of seven tries were scored - five for the Bulls and two for the Sharks - as the men from Pretoria ran out 35-21 winners. - The Bulls now move ahead of the Sharks on the Currie Cup log.
The Free State Cheetahs enhanced their credentials as Currie Cup championship contenders with a victory over Western Province on Wednesday.
The scrum, nevertheless, was mostly a cluster of incomplete restarts, while WP were by far their own worst enemies in other areas of the game. The WP nearly struck back moments later but a forward pass to Petersen with no defence in-front of him, again denied the Cape-based side. Clearly WP were a XV of desperate men, while the Cheetahs opted to just go with the flow.
The Lions' woeful Currie Cup campaign continued on Wednesday with a 49-17 defeat to Griquas at Tafel Lager Park in Kimberley.
Du Plessis had converted all of the tries, and with a 28-3 lead with less than half an hour to play, Griquas had already all but secured the victory with the Lions on the ropes. It was Griquas doing all of the playing after that, turning down shots at goal in the hunt for more tries, and when No 7 Hanru Sirjel spilled the ball with nothing but the try line in front of him, the Lions were hanging on by a thread. The Lions couldn't get out of their own half and saw very little of the ball, but Griquas were struggling to find the clinical execution when it mattered most.
The Griquas stuck to their gameplan as they ran the Lions off the park in their Currie Cup clash on Wednesday afternoon.
There will, however, be a few more positives for Lions coach Mzwakhe Nkosi to work with. By the 53rd minute the encounter could be called as replacement Kudzwai Dube scored the all-important bonus-point try for the hosts. And ss they returned to the field after half-time, the Griquas resumed normal service.

A smart, well-worked dummy maul off the lineout saw hooker Marnus van der Merwe go over. WP then had a Sergeal Petersen try chalked off for a forward pass from prop Lee-Marvin Mazibuko in the build-up, and from the resulting scrum the Cheetahs won a penalty and set up another lineout that paid dividends again. It took a 58-meter penalty from Kade Wolhuter in the 16th minute to break the deadlock, and that contribution from the flyhalf was the only score in the first 40 minutes as WP went into the break 3-0 up.

"So, itโs purely just to see what weโve got, and use their strengths to the best of our team and their abilities. Although there is a number on their backs, itโs not specifically what they will do exactly in all the set-piece and where we want to use them," said Gert Smal, the Bulls' Currie Cup mentor. "Because that would suggest the Currie Cup is a demotion for him. Dandre arrived in Bloemfontein on Monday and had two sessions with us," said Fourie. "We have a lot of confidence in him. The Bulls and Sharks, perennial foes locally over the past few years, is the undoubted highlight while the Cheetahs will hope to keep their unbeaten record.
