Bangladesh needed eight runs from the final over with no wickets in hand but West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor coaxed an inside edge off Fariha Trisna from her third delivery to finish the contest. The West Indies dropped three catches as the run chase tightened, then Connell's treatment halted play in the 47th over. The West Indies made a good start with the ball, dismissing Shamima Sultana for a duck in the first over. Shemaine Campbelle prevented a rout, making an unbeaten 53 off 107 balls in her second half century of the tournament to give the West Indies a potentially defendable total of 140-9. The incident came in the latter stages of a gutsy West Indies fightback that saw them edge Bangladesh by four runs. Pace bowler Shamilia Connell collapsed while fielding for the West Indies at the Women's Cricket World Cup in New Zealand on Friday and was taken from the ground in an ambulance.

West Indies prevail in final over thriller (International Cricket Council)

West Indies have produced a disciplined bowling performance to successfully defend their small total and defeat Bangladesh by four runs in a final over ...

West Indies needed to take early wickets in reply to have any chance and it was Matthews that stepped up when needed when she trapped Shamima Sultana LBW for a duck in the opening over of the chase. It was a case of what could have been for the exciting Bangladesh team, who failed to capitalise on an excellent effort with the ball and in the field as they put the clamps on a strong West Indies' batting line-up. It was a polished performance with the ball from spinners Hayley Matthews (4/14) and Afy Fletcher (3/29) that did the majority of the damage for West Indies, while wicketkeeper Shemaine Campbelle (53*) also performed well to help pace a batting innings that failed to reach any great heights.

Big blow: White Ferns lose World Cup thriller in final over (New Zealand Herald)

The White Ferns must now play perfect cricket if they wish to win this home World Cup.

The White Ferns can afford no more setbacks, either of their own making or from the weather. South Africa were suddenly five down and sweating. With 15 overs to play, South Africa needed 70 runs and had eight wickets in hand. The equation stood at 31 from 30 when Frankie Mackay got the dangerous Chloe Tryon caught at deep midwicket, and 18 from 18 when Mackay completed a high caught and bowled to snare the seventh South African wicket. Their win made it four from four at this tournament and they dominated much of the match to earn their first World Cup win over New Zealand. A revival sparked by Amelia Kerr's 3-50 then gave the White Ferns hope, but South Africa eventually sneaked to their target of 229 with three balls to spare.
