Fairytale Yarmolenko goal sends West Ham into Europa League quarters (unknown)

The Ukrainian came off the bench to score a vital goal for the second time in five days to send David Moyes' side into the last eight.

Manager David Moyes had challenged West Ham’s fans to match the atmosphere at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan seven days earlier, and they did not disappoint. Soucek was inches away again when he met Craig Dawson’s knockdown from a corner but he could not guide it in at the far post. They also sent Manchester United packing in the 2020 semi-final.

Andriy Yarmolenko wins tie for the Hammers (unknown)

Match report as Andriy Yarmolenkos extra-time goal secured West Hams passage into Europa League quarter-finals; David Moyes side knock out the six-time ...

West Ham got their goal moments later to bring the tie level on the night. From the first half, we were onto them, driving and creating chances. An extra 30 minutes were needed and many home fans thought they'd taken the lead in the tie when Soucek latched onto Dawson's knockdown at the far post. The atmosphere was an absolute joke today. I give the win to the fans. I thought Sevilla were probably the favourites for the tournament. Declan Rice set up Soucek, but the midfielder's first-time strike was batted away by Bounou. "The only atmosphere that compares to this was the final day at the Boleyn Ground. We came out here and the fans were singing. In the second half our intensity was great until 70 minutes then it dropped off. "In football things change for you. West Ham boss David Moyes told BT Sport afterwards: "This will be as high as we've had. We keep on going.

Moyes has created a winning culture at a club that had forgotten how to win. He won't want his players to regard Thursday night as a big deal.

Rice was outstanding in both legs of the Sevilla tie. Indeed, both had trained away from the main group on Wednesday and weren't expected to make it. But he has described the squad a 'the most likeable group of men I've ever worked with.' He won't want his players to regard Thursday night, as exceptional a result as it was, as a big deal. Stuart Pearce, one of the first-team coaches, helps keep the cogs turning. Bubbles floated into the night sky, Mark Noble jumped onto the back of Declan Rice, and a tearful Andriy Yarmolenko zoned in on a Ukrainian flag waver in the crowd and threw him his shirt. It took 19 months to realise the error of their ways. Out of the two domestic cups, West Ham's season appeared to be heading nowhere. More impressively, Moyes has created a winning culture at a club that had forgotten how to win. The Scot may be old school but sometimes that's precisely what a club needs. But in Europe at least, they are marching on. He has succeeded in rebuilding West Ham into a team who gets the fundamentals right.

Noble leapt on Declan Rice's back and cried tears of joy. The players celebrated by leaping on one another. When the game kicked off, West Ham were at it, almost from start to finish. Another wall of noise greeted the referee’s final whistle. And, of course, there was the manager: David Moyes’ steely determination to transform West Ham into a team to be feared, into a new force not just in English but in European football, and his jubilant celebrations at the final whistle. The atmosphere was building in and around the ground from mid-afternoon, with fans descending on Stratford, Hackney Wick and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from far and wide to be a part of the Club’s biggest European night in at least two decades, arguably four.

But already he is way ahead of the number of games he normally plays [in a season] so physically he is getting better and that is really important and he is looking after himself much better as well." "I do not see any reason why he should not be [fit]," Moyes said. Not only did Antonio recover in time but the striker was fit enough to last until the final minute of extra-time against Sevilla and put in a fantastic performance to boot.

Barcelona face Frankfurt in Europa League quarters, West Ham ... (News24)

Barcelona were drawn to play Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals of this season's Europa League on Friday, while West Ham United will take on Lyon.

The first leg will be played in northern Portugal. They reached the semi-finals in 2019 before losing to eventual winners Chelsea. West Ham beat the German side in the semi-finals of the now-defunct Cup Winners' Cup in 1976 before losing the final to Anderlecht.

Corner Picks: Best bets, odds, soccer predictions for Tottenham vs ... (CBSSports.com)

Thankfully, there's still some excellent value to be found in two of those Premier League matches, and the Derby della Capitale between Roma and Lazio is ...

Also like Aston Villa, I made a handy table to illustrate the difference between Lazio facing the top seven and Lazio facing everybody else. Immobile leads the league with 21 goals scored, but there's a clear pattern to when his goals come. When it comes to rivalries like this, anything is possible, but Roma are playing well. While things haven't gone their way consistently, they've played well for most of the last month, and only one of their last seven matches have come at home. As for Tottenham, it's dangerous to bet on them given how inconsistent their results have been, but the keyword there is results. And to drive the point home further, all four of the points Villa have earned against the top eight came in two matches against Manchester United. They have lost the other nine matches, including once against this Arsenal team that is playing very well lately and have climbed into the Champions League places. This is the time of the season when West Ham could start running into trouble. Craving even more coverage of the world's game? Arsenal lost 2-0 to Liverpool earlier this week, but Arsenal played well. There are four tiers in the Premier League. There's Manchester City and Liverpool in their own up top, six other teams fighting for European spots, the five teams fighting for survival, and the midfield. It's the last weekend of action before the international break, and we don't have nearly as much action in the Premier League as we're used to seeing. We'll get to which one shortly, but first, let me remind you that all odds listed are courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook.

The story of West Ham progressing incredibly under David Moyes in less than three season from near relegation to Europa League quarter-final.

Then, who else but Ukranian Andriy Yarmolenko to tap home the winner. Soucek climbed to high to head home and give the fightback life. The Hammers were struggling in 16th, just two points off 19th place.

Roman Abramovich's messy exit following UK and EU sanctions has left the Blues' summer transfer plans up in the air with just two months left of the season. And ...

But it will primarily depend on the new manager's preferences, and as Merson suggests, a lack of Champions League football could also be a significant stumbling block. "Manchester United would be a good move, but will they get in the Champions League? That's where Rice wants to play. But now the Russian oligarch has left the building, Chelsea could be out of the running for such a big deal Rice would demand.
