Bayern Munich 4-0 Union Berlin: Initial reactions and observations (Bavarian Football Works)

Tanguy Nianzou made a good impression today and he should get more minutes going forward. Nagelsmann has to be more trusting of his young players. Joshua ...

Even if you’re lagging behind the others, keep replying to the most recent call of the player’s name. For Bayern Munich, this is a good chance to keep some breathing room between them and Borussia Dortmund in the title race. It puts the newest comments at the top. Huge surprise today as Bayern Munich seem to be going with a back-four configuration, with Josip Stanisic replacing Benjamin Pavard in the XI. Sane and Coman start as the wingers, with Gnabry benched. That’s not great for Manuel Neuer’s chances of keeping a clean sheet, and neither is the fact that Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry will be playing as wingbacks. The most interesting thing we’ve seen in 30 minutes was when Neuer came out and made a pass in midfield.

Bayern Munich Player Ratings vs Union Berlin: 9/10 Lewandowski... (The Hard Tackle)

Robert Lewandowski equalled another Gerd Muller record as Bayern Munich swept aside Union Berlin 4-0 at the Allianz Arena.

Robert Lewandowski was at his usual best against Union. He wasn’t starved of service and linked up brilliantly with his teammates in the final third. Kingsley Coman was one of the most dangerous players for Bayern Munich, as he dominated the flanks with his pace and trickery. Although Bayern scored four goals, Sane was not at the top of his game, particularly when it came to beating players and offering that spark going forward. After a few bad games, Thomas Muller pulled off an impressive display in the attacking third. He was always alert to the danger and responded well whenever he was called upon. Nevertheless, he still bagged an assist for the Nianzou goal with a wonderful cross. But the youngster operated a bit further forward, and the move certainly paid off. He needs to improve in order to become a first-team regular at Bayern. He is certainly the future of the Bavarian creative unit. Not to mention, the Frenchman scored the all-important opener – a stunning strike from outside of the box. Union Berlin had some great opportunities to score, but they were unable to make the most of it. They found it through an exceptional first-half performance that saw Kingsley Coman, Tanguy Nianzou, and Robert Lewandowski register their names on the scoresheet.
