Hillsong founder resigns — again — following misconduct allegations (unknown)

Hillsong Church revealed founder and pastor Brian Houston resigned after an internal probe found evidence of inappropriate behavior toward two women.

Frank — who died in 2004 at 82 — “raped, choked and brutalized” Sengstock, then attempted to bribe him with $10,000 (AUD) via a hand-scrawled contract on a McDonald’s napkin, Sengstock has stated. Given that this matter is now before the court, neither Pastor Brian or Hillsong Church will be making further statements. “We have talked about the effects of the situation with my father, which go back many years up to the current legal case, and the impact this has had on me emotionally. The statement attributes Houston’s behavior to being “under the influence of sleeping tablets, upon which he had developed a dependence.” Representatives for Hillsong have repeatedly denied claims that Brian Houston covered it up to The Post. We ask that you continue to pray for them, and the entire Houston family, during this challenging time.”

The megachurch said an internal probe into allegations of inappropriate behavior revealed that Houston "breached the Hillsong Pastor's Code of Conduct."

"It would not be appropriate for us to go into detail about the events that led to this decision," Houston said in a statement at the time. The church said Houston "immediately apologised to the person," but that the staff member ultimately resigned. The first accused Houston of sending "inappropriate text messages" to a member of the church's staff around a decade ago.

Prime minister says Houston's resignation is 'entirely appropriate' after alleged inappropriate behaviour.

Houston was found to have engaged in conduct “of serious concern” by the church, in two separate incidents over the past decade.
