It's worth remembering that women have shorter careers in sport and they still have to juggle families, academics and the need to set up a life outside of the game. They emerged top of their group, but the rain in Sydney and an ascendant home team in Australia got in their way in the semi-finals to rob them of a spot in the final. It perhaps still comes as a surprise that the women's teams in soccer and cricket are outdoing their better-resourced men's sides, but with the regularity of their excellence, it shouldn't.
