Replacing Ezra Miller With Grant Gustin In 'The Flash' Is Too Weird ... (Forbes)

I just don’t think I can be convinced is that the guy who has already played The Flash for more than a decade is the only choice to replace Miller, and I just don’t imagine this manifesting, no matter how much some fans may want to see it. Seeing Grant Gustin alone zapped into the DCEU to play a different version of a character he’s already played for eight years and a hundred hours is just extremely weird to process. With that said, I cannot wrap my head around how strange it would be to port the actor over to the DCEU for a Flash film.

Last week, a source told The Hollywood Reporter that Smith’s planned Netflix film Fast and Loose has been “moved to the back burner” following the Oscars. The same article claimed that Bad Boys 4 was also put on pause. The slap incident also illustrates how disposable Black entertainers (and people) are once they behave outside the lines of respectability the industry has drawn for them. That’s why the public’s slow reaction to Miller’s behavior and Warner Bros.’ reluctance at completely pulling their upcoming projects, despite their public record of causing harm, are so maddening and reveal a double standard regarding how white and Black violence are viewed and policed in a racist society. Although none of them violent outbursts, an insider claimed that the actor was “losing it.” The last time the Perks of Being A Wallflower star had gone viral, they had posted a video on Instagram back in January threatening members of the Ku Klux Klan in Beulaville, North Carolina, for undisclosed reasons. Page Six also reported that Hawaii police had received at least 10 calls about Miller for “minor” incidents, including “filming people at a gas station and refusing to leave the sidewalk area of a restaurant.”

Ezra Miller's Days as The Flash in the DCEU Might Be Coming to an ... (Esquire.com)

After Ezra Miller's arrest in Hawaii, Warner Bros. executives are reportedly reevaluating their superhero future in 'The Flash.'

Well, with the reports that Warner Bros. met about Miller's behavior, things do not look particularly great for their future as the Justice League's Flash. And if The Slap taught us anything, it's that studios aren't afraid to halt production on a star's project at the first whiff of trouble. "Ezra would get a thought in [their] head and say, 'I don’t know what I’m doing.'" The meeting reportedly happened on March 30, with the executives deciding to pause Miller's future projects with the studio. This was all enough, according to Rolling Stone, for Warner Bros. executives to hold a meeting about Miller's future with the franchise. If you're here to understand exactly what the studio fears, as well as what fans want—Grant Gustin, the leading man of The Flash TV show?—we have you covered. The same AP story detailing Miller's arrest revealed a court complaint against Miller, filed by a two Hawaii residents. According to the Associated Press, Miller was arrested at a Miami karaoke bar at the end of March. Hawaii Police Assistant Chief Kenneth Quiocho told the AP that Miller took issue with patrons singing "Shallow," from The Star is Born. As the AP report details, Miller "grabbed a mic from a singing woman and lunged at a man playing darts," before authorities charged them with disorderly conduct and harassment.

The third film, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, comes out on April 15 in the US (April 7 in Australia, April 8 in the UK). Miller plays a major role in that film. Black Adam comes out in October, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods in December, and neither will have any Flash appearance -- not due to the incidents, but because it was never planned that way. Miller played Credence Barebone/Aurelius Dumbledore in the second and third Fantastic Beasts movies. The calls were about minor incidents, such as filming people at a gas station, refusing to leave the sidewalk area of a restaurant and arguing with people, the AP reports. Variety reports that Miller was escorted off the premises. Miller, 29, played DC Comics superhero The Flash in Justice League; Suicide Squad; Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice; and on related TV shows.

Fans Campaign For Grant Gustin To Replace Ezra Miller As The Flash (Game Rant)

Gustin was trending on Twitter because fans want to see the actor take over on all things movie and TV-related for The Flash. As a fan favourite for many, especially for his portrayal of the character on the TV screen, Gustin was who many wanted to see as the DCEU's Flash. However, it was clear that this wasn't how DC was handling things, which meant they opted for two different actors for the speedster. Hopefully, the victims of Miller's verbal assault all get treated right and DC can get back to what it once was. Recently, Grant Gustin was trending as the possible replacement for Miller as the Scarlet Speedster.

Reports debunked the rumored emergency meeting from Warner Bros. over The Flash's Ezra Miller.

However, a new update has revealed that this may no longer be the case for the studio behind the superhero franchise. Now, as the actor prepares for his fifth DCEU entry next year, including Zack Snyder's Justice League and the Season 1 finale of Peacemaker, reports have hinted that his time with DC could be in serious jeopardy. While Warner Bros.' The Flash faces yet another round of delays, now not set to release until June 23 of next year, the film has another potentially big problem on its hands too.

Ezra Miller — and their recent volatility — explained (Vox)

On the cusp of massive fame, Ezra Miller's hedonistic spate of aggression may be their undoing.

It probably also didn’t help that, while still a teen, Miller immersed themself in the mind of the titular Kevin, a mass murderer and family annihilator who hates his mother — a role that led Miller to completely avoid speaking to their own mother for months, until the production wrapped. Meanwhile, some DC fans have been calling on the studio to replace Miller with Grant Gustin, who plays The Flash on the accompanying CW show. In the wake of Miller’s troubles, it’s unclear what the future status of their projects with Warner Bros. might look like. Miller seemed to stay off the radar since that incident, but while they were filming The Flash last year, an anonymous source hinted to Rolling Stone that Miller had multiple “meltdowns” — nonviolent but apparently torturous. That same year, after a car Miller was riding in got pulled over for a broken taillight, Miller was detained by police for allegedly holding an armful of pot (they were clutching “brown, vegetable material” and later described it as “pot strewn about, covering me like a quilt”) and ultimately cited for disorderly conduct. While speaking to one woman, Miller abruptly asked her, “Did you want to fight?” before grabbing her by the neck, choking her, and pushing her against the floor — a moment briefly captured in a video in which Miller apparently had to be pulled off the woman by bystanders. To be forced to deal with the monumental pressures of skyrocketing fame as a teenager, an age when most people are still learning how to grapple with their own huge emotions, has historically tended to be a stumbling block to a well-adjusted adulthood. That film introduced Miller to mainstream audiences; 2012’s Perks of Being a Wallflower, where they played Emma Watson’s charismatic gay stepbrother, seemed to put them on a path to certain stardom. The Hawaii police chief who delivered the announcement of Miller’s March 28 arrest noted that they’d been the subject of 10 police complaints in the past month. One couple filed a restraining order against them, while rumors surfaced that the actor had been having breakdowns while filming The Flash, an upcoming installment in the DC movie franchise, scheduled to be released next summer. They would later describe that experience as “the most profound ego boost that an 8-year-old could possibly receive.” Miller then moved into a long-term residency with the Metropolitan Opera children’s chorus. The Flash may depart the Speed Force if Warner Bros. has anything to say about actor Ezra Miller’s recent string of arrests for aggressive and violent behavior.

Replacing Ezra Miller With Grant Gustin In 'The Flash' Is Too Weird ... (Forbes)

WB has to kill the Flash movie entirely or release it with Miller. Re-filming with a new star, be it Gustin or anyone, would likely be totally untenable in the current situation. I just don’t think I can be convinced is that the guy who has already played The Flash for more than a decade is the only choice to replace Miller, and I just don’t imagine this manifesting, no matter how much some fans may want to see it. The most likely course of action here would seem to be the film is released with Miller and then DC just stays away from The Flash for a good long while after that. Not to say that Miller doesn’t need to do anything at all with the film after that, and of course there’s the usual promotional cycle that I’m sure WB is terrified to do with Miller, but it seems pretty black and white. With that said, I cannot wrap my head around how strange it would be to port the actor over to the DCEU for a Flash film. Seeing Grant Gustin alone zapped into the DCEU to play a different version of a character he’s already played for eight years and a hundred hours is just extremely weird to process.

All of this occurred as the Perks of Being a Wallflower star has been noticeably absent from press forFantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. Fans are especially eager to see the return of both Ben Aflfeck and Michael Keaton’s Batman. Actor Ezra Miller has already had a long and successful career, partly thanks to his ongoing partnership with Warner Bros..
