Maritzburg had the perfect start in the second stanza as Friday Samu snatched the equaliser two minutes from the restart with a strike in the box against the run of play. Both sides were looking for the winner in the dying minutes, with United having the momentum but they could not take their chances, as they settled for the share of the spoils. Swallows ran out of steam in the latter phase of the first stanza but they did not allow Maritzburg chances, as they contained them to head to the half-time break with a narrow lead. The visitors had their confidence up as Saleng came close to doubling their lead in the 20th minute with a strike that came off the post and Kagiso Malinga had chance from the rebound but his effort was saved by goalkeeper Marcel Engelhardt. The Birds were not lying down as Gamildien came close to restoring their lead eight minutes later with a strike that produced a goal-line save from Engelhardt. A point took Swallows up to 14th on the log by virtue of a superior goal difference over TS Galaxy while Ernst Middendorp's men remained four points clear of the relegation zone in 12th spot. Kerr made a double change in the latter stages, as Givemore Khupe replaced Malinga in a tactical and defensive switch while Mbulelo Wambi came for winger Fawaaz Basadien to crowd the midfield. Dylan Kerr's charges had a dream start after Orlando Pirates loanee Monnapule Saleng gave them the lead in the sixth minute with a hooked strike in the box. Swallows moved out of the relegation zone in the DStv Premiership despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Maritzburg United on Tuesday evening. The Team of Choice made three alterations from a narrow defeat against Cape Town City, as Steven Pereira, Daylon Claasen and Travis Graham were brought back while the Birds also made the same number of changes, with the return of Musa Nyatama, Grant Margeman and Ruzaigh Gamildien.
