It also alleged that “she is the perpetrator” and noted that she had been previously arrested on suspicion of violently abusing her former domestic partner. The lawsuit called her ongoing allegations of domestic abuse “categorically and demonstrably false,” and said that Depp never abused Heard. Depp’s lawyers have also said they filed the lawsuit there in part because the laws are more favorable to their case. Judge Azcarate ruled against Depp, but that doesn’t mean Heard has immunity for what she wrote. They announced a divorce settlement in August 2016 and by January 2017, a judge finalized the acrimonious split. She also brought a photo of herself with a bruised face to court, which got a judge to order that Depp stay away from her. In March 2021, Depp’s attempt to appeal the verdict was rejected. “Friends and advisers told me I would never again work as an actress — that I would be blacklisted. That’s also about the time she first publicly accused Depp of domestic violence — allegations that Depp denied. That same year, Depp separated from Vanessa Paradis, his girlfriend of 14 years, with whom the Academy Award nominee has two children. “Her allegations against him were false when they were made in 2016. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm.”

ICYMI: Johnny Depp’s sister says Amber Heard called him “old and fat” and that the actor’s family was “devastated” at his marriage to her. While Depp denies the claims, Heard told the court of 14 allegations of “violence” by Depp between 2013 and 2016, in locations such as a rented house in Australia, his private island in the Bahamas and a private jet, as The Associated Press reported two years ago. ICYMI: Appearing as a witness during Depp’s trial against British newspaper The Sun in 2020, Heard said she wanted to be “left alone” and wanted her former husband to end lawsuits over domestic abuse claims to “save him the embarrassment.” ICYMI: In a statement on Saturday, Heard said she was continuing “to pay the price” for being a woman “speaking out against men in power” and that she was dissapointed her and Depp’s life would again play out in front of a court. The programme – Johnny v Amber – was also billed as the story “of the breakdown” of Depp and Heard’s relationship, including “how it tipped into the celebrity court case of the decade”.

Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard: Depp's longtime friend gets ... (Globalnews.ca)

Johnny Depp's longtime friend and neighbour Isaac Baruch testified that he did not see any signs of abuse on Amber Heard.

“I’m looking at a cheek, I’m looking at her chin, I’m looking at the other side of the face. He recalled the next day that Heard told him, “Johnny came by last night and he got violent, so I’m changing the locks.” Bettany, whose private and disturbing text messages with Depp, were read in court in 2020, will testify as part of Depp’s team. When Heard’s lawyers asked if he is “beholden” to Depp, he said, no. He said Depp is a “nice friend.” Just Amber looking like Amber,” he testified. She claimed she was aware of the addiction but that it had no impact on Depp’s career. “It’s not right what she did, and what happened for so many people to get affected by this. Depp filed a $50-million defamation lawsuit over a Washington Post op-ed penned by Heard in late 2018 about domestic abuse. What I am is tired, and I want this all to end — her to go heal, him to go heal. They treated each other like gold.” So many people have been affected by this malicious lie that she started and she created,” Baruch said as he became emotional on the stand.

Now they’re both playing the victim at a time when there are millions of real victims suffering from war, a killer virus, and crippling rises in the cost of living. Two Grand Canyon-size egos, used to getting their way, seemingly devoid of a single moment’s caring thought for their spouse, and united only by a penchant for abuse — mental and physical. The Mayo Clinic identifies narcissistic personality disorder as a mental condition in which people “have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others.” And already, after just one day in what’s expected to be — God help us all — a three-week trial, their legal teams have hurled gigantic quantities of verbal excrement over the two protagonists. Of course, we’ve already been through all this with their first court battle in London, where Depp lost a libel case against the Sun newspaper for calling him a wife-beater. As Depp and Heard’s latest legal battle kicks off in a Virginia court, we’re once again being forced to endure disgustingly ugly details of how much they hate each other and how horrendously they both behaved during a relationship that even by Hollywood standards was spectacularly awful.

Depp-Heard trial, Day 2: Emotions begin to rise on the witness stand (The Washington Post)

Testimony continues as an old friend of Johnny Depp's described living next to the actor and ex-wife Amber Heard in a Los Angeles penthouse.

The next day, he walked by and saw two locksmiths; according to Baruch, Heard said, “Johnny came by last night and he got violent, so I’m changing the locks” on three of the penthouses. Patterson, who said he could not recall if he saw Heard the following week, also said he could not testify one way or another if Depp committed domestic violence against Heard. Baruch acknowledged he did not know, but said Heard seemed like “not a makeup-wearing person” for the most part. He said he saw Depp and Heard arguing a couple times, but described their relationship as “loving” and that they “treated each other like gold.” Bredehoft asked if Baruch felt “beholden” to Depp, who let Baruch live rent-free as he tried to launch a full-time art career and gave him around $100,000 over several years. Baruch, who earlier drew laughter in the Fairfax County courtroom with his lighthearted descriptions of his and Depp’s friendship — he has known the actor since they were teenagers in Florida — suddenly became emotional when Heard’s lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, asked if he was angry at the actress.
