Senzo Meyiwa's alleged killers plead not guilty (News24)

The five men charged with murdering Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa have pleaded not guilty in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

Advocate Malesela Teffo told the court that if Mncube was not moved to another prison, he would be "six feet under" following an assault by a prison official. We tried to persuade him to show him that the conduct violated my client's constitutional rights," said Teffo. This particular officer was not wearing a name tag but if there is an identity parade, I could point him out, but I realised that he is not here today," said Teffo.

Kelly Khumalo's legal representative Magdalene Moonsamy said the singer and socialite is a witness in the matter and she has been compliant and cooperative.

The trial of the five men accused of the 2014 murder of Meyiwa was scheduled to start on April 11, but was postponed after Advocate Zandile Mshololo, the legal representative of the fifth accused, Sifisokuhle Ntuli, indicated she was unable to proceed with the trial without sufficiently consulting. “If the prosecution requires her as a witness in court … she is a witness in the matter and she has been compliant and cooperative in the matter,” Moonsamy spoke to broadcaster eNCA ahead of the resumption of the trial on Friday. Pretoria – Musician and socialite Kelly Khumalo is ready to come to court and testify on what she knows about the 2014 murder of her then boyfriend, former Bafana Bafana ace goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, her legal representative said on Friday.

Defense lawyer alleges one of his clients has been routinely assaulted by prison officials.

Judge Maumela said he could not interfere with prison authorities, but directed Baloyi to ensure all communications with the correctional officials would be in writing, and that the prosecutor should indicate that all responses should also be recorded in writing. On Friday, at the Pretoria high court, advocate Dan Teffo, who represents the first four accused, including Ncube, alleged that his client was being “tortured” by prison authorities. But prosecutor George Baloyi said there was no reason for Ncube to be moved back to Sun City and it would not be feasible logistically, but he would have the alleged assault of the accused investigated.

The long-awaited trial, which has already been postponed twice, is due to open this Friday.

“From what I have seen and the briefings I have had from the South African Police Service, I am convinced that we have the correct people in court, but I would have expected more arrests. However, last week, AfriForum’s legal head, Advocate Gerry Nel, said he believes more people, not only the five should have been arrested for the 2014 murder. As the high-stakes murder trial of five men arrested in connection with the murder of Meyiwa, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has announced that it is ready to proceed.
