Since November 18, he has been the NBA's best 3-point shooter at 45.9 per cent, and now he has Memphis' postseason mark with 27 3s in six games to lead this postseason. "Memphis is in a similar boat now gaining that experience, feeling what it's like to be on the road and trailing in the fourth quarter, and they've done a really good job of advancing and getting to this stage and now it continues," Kerr said. Curry scored at least 30 points in his last two games and three of four coming off the bench in all but Game 5 against the Nuggets to protect his tender left foot. Memphis earned the No 8 seed a year ago after beating San Antonio, then going on the road to beat the Warriors in the play-in tournament. "We feel like we are one of the best backcourts in the league as well," Morant said. The dynamic guard leads a young, brash and deep roster that edged out Golden State for the No 2 seed in the Western Conference with the NBA's best record behind only Phoenix.

However, the Memphis Grizzlies will be returning to their raucous home crowd after winning their first playoff series as a game. They’ve shown this year that they’re a great matchup against this team, as the Grizzlies won the season series 3-1. The Grizzlies could make their imprint on the series by taking the first swing in Game 1. That wouldn’t fly with the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors have been one of the league’s best teams this season, and they’re at full strength. Morant took on the defensive assignment of Patrick Beverley in the last series. They also experienced a leap from third-year guard Jordan Poole, who has emerged as another Splash Brother. For the Grizzlies, Desmond Bane has taken a similar jump to Poole, solidifying himself as the 2nd-best offensive weapon on the team.

He needs to be the guy who looked like an MVP candidate at times this season. After a gentleman’s sweep of Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets in Round 1, they look like championship favourites. They came into the playoffs with conviction as one of the stories of the season after finishing a surprising second in the West, but facing the Minnesota Timberwolves was a bit of a struggle as far as No. 2 vs. The Warriors are back looking like a juggernaut as they push for another shot at Larry OB, while the Grizzlies – whose oldest starter is 26 with Steven Adams out – are inexperienced and still learning how to win in the playoffs. Curry is the greatest shooter of all-time who’s unstoppable from anywhere on the court when he gets rolling. Morant and Curry are two of the game’s most exciting point guards for opposite reasons. After winning the season series 3-1, Memphis will definitely put up a fight.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Golden State Warriors: 4 takeaways from ... (Sportsnaut)

The Memphis Grizzlies fell to the Golden State Warriors in epic fashion in Game 1 of their Western Conference Semifinals series. Biggest takeaways here.

Despite the Warriors’ experience advantage, there’s no reason to believe that this would prove to be too big of a stage for the Grizzlies. If Morant had made that lay-up (one that he nails 90% of the time), Memphis would have come away with a walk-off win. Instead, it was off the mark and gave the Warriors a drama-filled win. Poole had a coming out party in Golden State’s five-game series win over the Denver Nuggets in the first round. In the end, a Klay Thompson three-pointer with 36.6 seconds remaining proved to be the difference in a 117-116 Warriors win. Late in the second quarter of Game 1, Green found himself ejected after a hard foul on Brandon Clarke. Officials went to review and talked with Secaucus before calling it a Flagrant 2. The dude led his Warriors in scoring with 31 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out nine assists. The matchup of Stephen Curry and Ja Morant had everyone talking. In a game that saw Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry struggle (12-of-33 shooting), Poole acted as the biggest difference-maker in a huge Warriors win. The game proved to be one of the best of the NBA Playoffs thus far with the two teams trading jabs in the final minutes. With that said, Jackson Jr. came to play big time in Game 1. There’s no question that the 22-year-old Jackson Jr. is among the most-talented young forwards in the NBA. Unfortunately, injuries and inconsistency has held the former No. 4 pick back big time.

5 takeaways from Warriors' Game 1 Western Conference semifinal ... (NBA.com)

Jordan Poole's continued emergence, Stephen Curry's underrated defense and more help the Warriors steal home-court advantage from the Grizzlies.

Maybe a little extra resolve was what enabled them to outscore Memphis 36-29 in the third quarter, outrebound the Grizzlies 50-47 and come up with those key stops. Look, it’s refreshing not to have every out-of-bounds play getting reviewed, one after another after another, down the stretch of games. Memphis got the ball in the frontcourt with 3.6 seconds left and a great chance to tie or win. The Warriors reset for 26 of them in this one. Memphis had a brutal turnaround, from clinching its series against Minnesota Friday evening and traveling home, to playing the opener as a matinee. Certainly, Golden State’s feelings about the call might have been different had the outcome gone differently. What it didn’t have was the same comeback ability it showed three times against the Timberwolves. Main reason? You play the Grizzlies, you shoulder the responsibility of defending Ja Morant, Memphis’ frenetic, exciting point guard. But the way he stepped up really helped us. Said Curry: “He hadn’t been on this stage before, and it’s not something you can teach, being ready for a moment like this. Asked how it went when he told guard Jordan Poole he’d be coming off the bench in the opener against Memphis, Warriors coach Steve Kerr kind of smirked. “The Jordan we’ve seen the last few months, this is what he looks like.

Warriors vs. Grizzlies: Jordan Poole's enhanced playmaking proves ... (CBSSports.com)

Poole's scoring has been electric in his first postseason, but don't ignore his crucial work as a facilitator.

On this possession from the second quarter of Game 1 against Memphis, Poole knows Andrew Wiggins is going to be open before he even receives the pass, then fires a laser to him all in one motion for an easy bucket. He could have hit Porter flaring out to the 3-point line or skipped it to one of the floor-spacers on the other side of the court. Poole feeds Otto Porter Jr. in the post, fakes like he's going to set a screen for Klay Thompson, then uses his quickness to shake Grizzlies big man Jaren Jackson Jr. as he gets to the corner. Poole collected nine assists on Sunday, six of which came in the second half after Green, their primary half-court facilitator, had been banished to the locker room. Poole was held to just 19 total points in the final two games of the Warriors' first-round series against the Denver Nuggets while going 6-for-20 from the floor and 2-for-9 from 3-point range. In the Warriors' thrilling 117-116 win over Memphis on Sunday, Poole went off for 31 points on 12-of-20 shooting, including 5-of-10 from 3-point range.

So much for rest, no time for celebration. The Memphis Grizzlies kicked off Game 1 of the second round, as they are now matched up with the Golden State ...

They have to get the Warriors out of their flow offensively in order to be successful in this series. The Grizzlies have to maintain good defensive discipline and try to hop in their passing lanes to generate turnovers. He was a killer in this Game 1, and they’re going to need performances and discipline like this one in this series. The Grizzlies were on the receiving end of splashing. The Grizzlies made it a priority to find him in the post, and he capitalized on those chances. After falling out of the rotation against the Warriors, Melton was back in the mix in Game 1. Two challenges were pivotal in this quarter — one was for a Steph Curry charge foul that was unsuccessful, and the other was an out of bounds play that was successful for the Grizzlies. Klay Thompson hit a big 3 to give them a 1-point lead with under a minute left, and he also missed 2 free throws to give the Grizzlies 1 more shot. The Grizzlies answered with their own run to regain the lead, but the Warriors countered with their own. They started to run him in more ball screen actions to get him going from beyond the arc, and it paid off, as he hit 6 three-pointers. De’Anthony Melton returned to action after a few DNP-CD’s, and drilled 2 three’s in the opening moments of the game. The Grizzlies ran a final play to get Ja Morant a lane downhill, and they couldn’t capitalize. Melton continued to do stuff on both sides of the ball, making a pair of defensive plays that resulted in transition offense.

Memphis Grizzlies: 2 bold predictions for Game 2 vs. Warriors in ... (ClutchPoints)

The Memphis Grizzlies will need big performances from players such as Ja Morant if they want to beat the Warriors in Game 2.

Each point, assist, and rebound will mean something for Memphis in what projects to be another competitive and exciting matchup between the Grizzlies and Warriors. Morant was excellent for the most part in Game 1. Maybe one of them will score 24 and the other will post 16. But we can expect the star guard to gobble up that extra rebound while finding the bottom of the net and dishing out assists on a consistent basis in Game 2. A win on Tuesday in Game 2 guarantees that there will be a game 5 back in Memphis. The Grizzlies are going to do everything in their power to take care of business at home against Golden State. There is still a bright future in the NBA for the 19-year-old, but relying on him too much at this point is a lot and should only happen in case of emergency. With Draymond Green ejected in Game 1 and the Warriors dealing with some foul trouble, Kerr turned to rookie Jonathan Kuminga for 15 minutes. Look for Draymond to finish the job and stay in for all four quarters of the second matchup. The matchup between the Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies lived up to the hype in Game 1. There has been above-average play from several members of Golden State’s roster, but this does not change the fact Curry is still the lifeblood of the team. The victory was a massive blow to the Grizzlies’ chances, especially with it occurring on their home court and with Green getting ejected.
