The Bad Guys REVIEW – A Good Time For All (Cultured Vultures)

Back in the 2000s, a little independently funded, computer-animated comedy-mystery film called Hoodwinked! was among my favorite films.

The Bad Guys works as both a film children and adults can enjoy because it avoids the cliched tropes and gross potty humour bogging down movies marketed for kids. Even though most of the characters are anthropomorphic animals living alongside humans in a Bojack Horseman-type world, they feel just as human as their human counterparts. The Bad Guys charms right from the start, breaking the fourth wall and addressing the audience as Mr. Wolf invites us along on the high-octane adventure ahead. The characters and action drive the film forward equally in full force, providing both laughs and levity throughout its 100-minute runtime. Mr. Wolf uses his smooth-talking to pull off the ultimate heist: convince Governor Diane Foxington that they want to reform to avoid prison and try to steal the trophy again. Imagine my surprise when the trailer for the Ocean’s Eleven-esque animated comedy-crime film The Bad Guys starring talking animals and heists popped onto my radar.

The Northman finished its second weekend in fourth with an accumulated $6.3 million total, followed by Everything Everywhere All At Once, which earned $5.5 million. The Universal and DreamWorks animated film The Bad Guys ended its second theatrical weekend atop the domestic box office, generating $16.1 million to close out the quiet three-day slate. Despite the lack of releases, the weekend box office did see the arrival of a brand-new project from Open Road, starring Liam Neeson, Guy Pearce, and Monica Bellucci. Memory hit theaters this past Friday but failed to elicit much excitement from audiences during the quiet weekend. Sunday failed to generate the same revenue total, but the $4.87 million outperformed Friday's outing. The future, however, is crystal clear for the animated film, which will see a dip once Marvel Studios plants its flag in the proverbial sands. The DreamWorks film, which stars the voices of notable Hollywood figures, saw a 33% drop in revenue over a week but maintained its hold on the family-centric demographic to retain its top spot at the domestic box office.

"Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" came in at number three with $8.3 million dropping 40%, which is very bad news for the "Harry Potter" spin-off. Unfortunately, Nic Cage's "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent," one of the best-reviewed movies of the actor's career, took in just $3.92 million in its second weekend. The not-so-great news for the industry overall is that $16 million is a pretty tiny number to have attached to the number one movie at the box office in a given weekend. On a $30 million budget, that's not at all good and, unless overseas markets turn out in droves, this one is going to be a misfire for Lionsgate, and that is a true bummer. This all bodes very well for "Sonic the Hedgehog 3," which is already in the pipeline. Perhaps the biggest story of the weekend overall is "Everything Everywhere All At Once." A24's much-acclaimed sci-fi film didn't drop at all this weekend. In any event, this one didn't do much to help the bottom line for theaters this weekend. I couldn't dig up budget figures for this one but it looks to be relatively inexpensive, likely in the $15 to 25 million range. "The Bad Guys" now sits at $44.4 million domestic and $118.7 million overall worldwide. That relative failure paved the way for "The Bad Guys" and a few other movies to make a little cash before "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" becomes the talk of the town this upcoming weekend. Coming in at the top spot of the domestic chart for the second weekend in a row was Universal's animated family film "The Bad Guys," which took in another $16.1 million, per Box Office Mojo. The good news is that represents a pretty solid holdover, with the latest from DreamWorks dropping just 32.8% from last week. The only new wide release attempting to take anything away from the repeat business crowd was Liam Neeson's latest action flick "Memory,"coming just two months after the actor starred in another action flick, "Blacklight." Not to spoil the discussion here but audiences may have mostly had enough with these Neeson action movies, at least in terms of heading out to a theater to see them.

Movie Review: 'The Bad Guys' (drydenwire.com)

It's not hard to see where this movie draws its inspiration. Subverting fairy tales, that's 'Shrek.'

Adults will find little to surprise them about “The Bad Guys,” and even kids have probably been taken on this ride a few times before. The Beast from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” could be legitimately terrifying at times, so his arc about having to overcome his image made sense. At the start of the movie, they lead a life of crime since no one is willing to give them a chance in life, what with the scariness and portrayals as villains and such. The film follows a group of supposedly unlikeable animals as they do bad, do bad while they pretend to want to do good, then grapple with the decision whether or not to actually do good.

The animated comedy “The Bad Guys” has very quietly been the #1 movie at the domestic box office for the past two weekends.

Adults will find little to surprise them about "The Bad Guys," and even kids have probably been taken on this ride a few times before. The scene features Wolf and Snake bantering in a coffee shop, and Snake is wearing an awfully familiar-looking Hawaiian shirt. Seriously, the world is afraid of "these" animals? Also, I correctly predicted most of the beats along the way. The film features the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, and Jane Lynch, and follows the story of Wreck-it Ralph, a villain in an arcade game who wishes to be a hero and therefore decides to invade other arcade games and discover where he can be featured as a hero instead. The film features the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, Nate Torrence, Bonnie Hunt, Don Lake, Tommy Chong, J. K. Simmons, Octavia Spencer, Alan Tudyk, and Shakira. The film is set in a metropolis for animals and centers on Judy Hopps, an eager rabbit who joins the police force and forms an unlikely partnership with a con-artist fox to solve a mysterious case. A film that also features a villain as the protagonist is the computer-animated film Despicable Me, directed by Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin from a screenplay by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio based on a story by Sergio Pablos. The film centers on a supervillain named Gru who adopts orphan girls. A review by The Hollywood Reporter praised the creators of the film and described the villain protagonist saying, “The animation overseen by directors Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin gets an A for energy, imagination, and color. The film tackles important themes about prejudice and stereotypes and has earned numerous accolades including an Academy Award, Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice Movie Award, and Annie Award for Best Animated Feature Film. In a review by Rolling Stone, they commended the creators of the film and wrote, “Directors Byron Howard (Tangled) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph), along with co-director Jared Bush, who shares screenplay credit with Phil Johnston, know how to keep things light. The film received generally positive reviews and earned several awards which include winning the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature, as well as receiving nominations for the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Vulture wrote a review of the animated film and praised the creativity in the film’s concepts saying, “It’s mostly enjoyable, thanks to the likable cast and the visually engaging idea of blending a broad range of video-game imagery into one eye-popping mash-up: hyperdetailed CGI warrior chicks living alongside 8-bit simpletons, and so on and so forth. In a film review by The Guardian, they praised the aesthetics of the film saying, “In Fantastic Mr. Fox, the world itself seems just a little bit weird, but gloriously so. The last on our list are not necessarily villains but are monsters whose job is to scare kids. The film received relatively positive reviews so far earning an 86 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus saying, “Fast-paced, funny, and full of colorful visual appeal, The Bad Guys is good news for audiences seeking options the whole family can enjoy.” RogerEbert.com also published a review of the film and wrote, “The animation is colorful and lively—almost incessant, really—and the physical comedy is at its most inspired when it subtly toys with the natural instincts of these anthropomorphized creatures.” If you had fun watching the animated film and you’re looking for similar movies to watch for your next family weekend, here are five more movies that involve similar elements and themes such as anthropomorphized creatures and villains. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song (If I Didn’t Have You) and was nominated for the first Best Animated Feature, Best Original Score, and Best Sound Editing. In the New York Times’s review of Monsters Inc., they wrote about what they love the most about the film and said, “What makes ”Monsters, Inc.” so wonderful is that it’s about scream deficit, yet all great cartoons are powered by screams. The film was directed by Pierre Perifel in his feature directorial debut with a screenplay by Etan Cohen and loosely based on the New York Times best-selling book series of the same name by Aaron Blabey. It features the voices of Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Awkwafina, Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, Richard Ayoade, Zazie Beetz, Alex Borstein, and Lilly Singh. It follows a group of criminals who attempt to appear as good citizens to avoid prison sentences after being caught in a recent heist. But this becomes a difficult task for Mr. Fox. It features the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, and Owen Wilson. 'The Bad Guys' Ending & Credits Scene, Explained: How Did Wolf ... (Digital Mafia Talkies)

"The Bad Guys" is the story of five notorious robbers who decide to commit the perfect heist and cement their legacy in the crime world.

Wolf finally accepted that he felt a tingling in his heart when he helped the old woman, and maybe he didn’t want to be bad anymore, which led to a brawl between Wolf and Snake, and suddenly the Crimson Paw infiltrated the premise and helped the gang escape from the prison. As they walked out of the prison, they discussed Snake’s birthday while trying to figure out what they were going to do with their lives. Marmalade kicked Snake out of the helicopter as soon as he found out that Wolf’s car was heading towards his cliff, while Wolf, on the other hand, decided to sacrifice his life to save Snake. Suddenly, the news reporter spotted Marmalade’s helicopter with the meteorite and concluded that Marmalade was bringing it back to safety. Wolf even encounters an old woman on the staircase and tries to steal money from her purse when suddenly the woman slips on the staircase and Wolf saves her life, but as soon as the woman hugs Wolf in gratitude, he feels a tingling in his heart and his tail starts wagging after committing the first good deed of his life, probably. Marmalade stole the meteorite and harnessed its power source to run a mind control device, a brain-wave helmet of some sort, with the help of which he hypnotized all the guinea pigs in the city and employed them to pull off the greatest heist that the world has ever seen. After a bit of hesitation, the governor agrees, and the gang is transferred to Marmalade’s safe house, where he starts instructing his new pupils. However, Wolf and his gang are just buying time to steal the Golden Dolphin trophy that will be on display during Marmalade’s charity event. Sometimes, a wolf isn’t hiding in a sheep’s skin and wants to be comfortable in its own, but the world isn’t ready to accept that kind of narrative. However, once Wolf has his eye on something, he doesn’t hold back his urges and thus convinces his gang to steal the trophy to show the governor what “The Bad Guys” gang is capable of. Wolf coins a grand plan to steal the trophy from backstage, and the gang arrives at the Museum of Fine Arts, where the trophy is going to be represented to the city’s most cherished philanthropist, Professor Rupert Marmalade IV, a guinea pig. Hence, they turn towards the world of crime and decide to achieve a legacy by being the baddest criminals of their time.
