DStv Premiership Starting XI: Kaizer Chiefs v Marumo Gallants 02 ... (Soccer Laduma)

Kaizer Chiefs will be desperate to avoid the humiliation of a fifth consecutive defeat when they host Marumo Gallants on Tuesday evening at FNB Stadium.

Gallants are lying 11th on the table, four points behind eighth-placed SuperSport United and will be looking to keep their top-eight hopes alive. However, Dan Malesela's charges have struggled for form in the league, as they have failed to register a victory in their last five matches. Bahlabane Ba Ntwa, meanwhile, will be in high spirits after booking their spot in the Nedbank Cup final after edging Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 1-0 last Friday. As a result, Amakhosi's continental chances continued to fade away but they are still in the race, as they sit six points behind second-place Royal AM with four matches remaining. Things have not gone according to plan for Chiefs since the appointment of Arthur Zwane as interim coach alongside Dillion Sheppard, as they suffered their third straight loss since being in charge and fourth overall after going down 2-1 to Cape Town City. Kaizer Chiefs will be desperate to avoid the humiliation of a fifth consecutive defeat when they host Marumo Gallants on Tuesday evening.

A 77th-minute Keagan Dolly strike was enough to see Kaizer Chiefs take all three points from their DStv Premiership game against Marumo Gallants on Tuesday, ...

Prior to the game, Chiefs interim coach Arthur Zwane bemoaned that his side lacked confidence and that was clearly visible by the play of his team in the first half. By the 70th minute, Chiefs had no chances on target with Gallants having one. It was unsurprising that Chiefs made two changes early in the second half in order to try and add fresh energy to their side. Chiefs had a good chance to score after the half-hour mark as Kearyn Baccus picked out Bernard Parker with a pinpoint cross. Celimpilo Ngema found himself with an opportunity in the box which was caught well by Bruce Bvuma. The ball took a deflection off Khama Billiat and Gallants goalkeeper King Ndlovu had no chance of making a save.

We focus on ourselves, says Chiefs' Nange ahead of Gallants clash (Citizen)

Looking at themselves is perhaps the best way for crisis-stricken Chiefs to do things as they wrap up another fruitless DStv Premiership campaign.

We have to make sure that we do our job and the rest will take care of itself. And based on the form of Marumo Gallants, Amakhosi are in for it when they host the Limpopo side at FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening. It started with the supporters who booed Stuart Baxter and demanded that he be fired.

Dolly's strike ends barren run as Kaizer Chiefs edge Gallants (TimesLIVE)

There were about 700 supporters at FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening who might feel they didn't get a performance and atmosphere worth their while and money ...

Though they are 11th on 31 points from 27 matches, they will need at least two wins from their last three remaining games against Golden Arrows, TS Galaxy and Sekhukhune United to stand a chance of finishing inside the top eight. Chiefs’ struggles this season, and in the past seven barren years, are in stark contrast to the glory days of their last Premiership title win in May 2015 when Stuart Baxter took Chiefs to 69 points. The struggling Soweto giants moved a position up to fourth place on 42 points from 27 matches, and they trail third-placed Cape Town City by two points and are three behind second-placed Royal AM, who have both played a game less.

Dolly dazzler gives Chiefs victory over Gallants - Kaizer Chiefs (Kaizer Chiefs)

Man of the match: Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana was composed at the back and a threat in the opposition box on a good night. On the half hour mark, Kearyn Baccus found some good space down the right to whip in a good cross for Bernard Parker, who had made a good run into the box but could not find the target with his header. It had taken Chiefs a while to break down a free-passing and confident Gallants side, but in fairness, the visitors provided little goalscoring threat given their glut of possession, with the man of the match Siyabonga Ngezana putting in a good shift in the heart of the Chiefs defence.

Zwane hails fighting spirit in Gallants victory - Kaizer Chiefs (Kaizer Chiefs)

It may not have always been pretty, but Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane was full of praise for the way Amakhosi battled their way to an important home win ...

The minute we get that one right I have no doubt the results will start coming, because our players will have that way of playing, knowing how to attack, when and how to defend and playing to dominate every game, because we want to start dominating. He can be a good player, but not for Kaizer Chiefs, so we will go specifically for players we think will suit our style of play,” concluded Zwane. You don’t just go onto the field wanting to win games, but you have a way of winning, knowing the approach against different opposition and , within the structure of Kaizer Chiefs and the Kaizer Chiefs way,” says Zwane.. “The more we play the more we’ll get better. We have the following, the support, we have everyone behind us, they want to watch something that is pleasing on the eye. Yes we knew that at some point maybe we’ll catch them on the break and be able to catch them,” Zwane told the media at FNB after the 1-0 win against Gallants on Tuesday night.

Gallants win doesn't erase Kaizer Chiefs' problems | Goal.com (Goal.com)

Kaizer Chiefs' win over Marumo Gallants may be good for morale, but it does not hide the fact that the team is in disarray.

Of course, all this is not Zwane and Sheppard's faults - they've been thrown in at the deep end in a period in which the club are not only suffering from Baxter's unexpected departure, but also from years of under-performing - in terms of results, trophies and transfer market dealings. At the same time, Zwane and Sheppard have been content to lean on some of the team's senior statesmen, those in their 30's and nearing the ends of their careers - which is something predecessor Baxter was heavily criticised for. The match could also have gone differently if the Limpopo side had not missed a fifth-minute sitter - Mahlatse Makudubela failed to score from just a couple of metres out, and had he netted, Chiefs' fragile confidence would have suffered another big blow and they may not have recovered.

Nonyane almost snatched the equaliser for Gallants in stoppage time with a free header in the box that sailed over the bar, as Amakhosi held on to move up to within three points of second-placed Royal AM in fourth place. The game stretched from end to end after that as Bvuma denied Letsie Koapeng the equaliser for Gallants from close-range at the near post. Amakhosi had spaces to exploit on counter-attacks but it took them until the half-hour mark to break the line as Bernard Parker should have given them the lead after a teasing cross by Baccus but he guided a header wide at the near post. Chiefs continued to wait for chances on transitions, breaking out through Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat but the attackers were let down by their final ball as the sides went intot the break all square. Bahlabane Ba Ntwa were on the front foot in the opening exchanges as Lehlohonolo Nonyane had a chance to open the scoring in the third minute after he was played through on goal but his shot was well saved by Bvuma.
