Hamilton's scary Merc warning to frontrunners as Max faces race against time: Qualifying LIVE.

But it’s frustrating not to have that track time.” It meant the reigning world champ did not set a lap time and missed out on valuable practice time on the new track as Horner was left to rue the inability to carry out the team’s plan going into the qualifying session. Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton fired a major warning to the rest of the grid, claiming that the team’s cars “seem to be quicker” ahead of the qualifying session at the Miami Grand Prix.

We'll be here for all of the build-up, latest updates and reaction from it. So, the penalty for a mistake is high, as it should be on a street circuit. This track, new as it is, has carried a fair amount of danger and caused a decent amount of damage to cars over the past couple of days. Mercedes had a more promising day on Friday with George Russell quickest in second practice and Lewis Hamilton in the top four too. Final practice finished a couple of hours ago and once again it was Red Bull and Ferrari leading the way. This was right at the end of the session and could have ended much worse. It's a racing must-read - only for subscribers. The Telegraph's F1 writer Luke Slater takes you through the key talking points, the latest news from the pit lane and the biggest winners and losers on the grid. It'll be the Haas cars to set the first couple of times. If Mercedes are to be a fixture they really need a good weekend here. Max Verstappen is 0.049s down after the first sector. That's a big gap, but what can Perez do?

What will the crowd be like? What will the track be like? The Miami Grand Prix debuts this weekend and there seems to be equal parts curiosity and excitement ahead of the event. It's been absolutely buzzing today and is already crawling with celebrities — many of whom might normally only be seen on race day. •3h ago If Russell had shown outward signs of being frustrated, it’d be understandable. Never once does his demeanor suggest someone whose team is mired in a slump, its worst in a decade, and dealing with an underperforming car that is of no fault of the driver. •3h ago •3h ago Although portions of the Florida Turnpike are partially open over the duration of the race weekend, an area overlooking the circuit is completely shut down throughout. That was a big one but I am ok. The Netflix effect on Formula One's growth has been widely discussed to the point where it's practically cliche now.

2022 Miami Grand Prix qualifying report and highlights: Leclerc ... (Formula 1 RSS UK)

Charles Leclerc took pole position in a stunning battle for pole at the inaugural Miami Grand Prix qualifying session, his title rival Max Verstappen ...

So the last weekend hasn’t been great for me, I did a mistake in the race but today went well, so we are starting on pole and we need to finish the job tomorrow. First forays saw Verstappen top with a time of 1m 29.202s and Perez second by 0.471s, the Ferraris half a tenth behind in third and fourth. Verstappen was now in the driving seat for pole. Further runs would see the pack shuffle, the Scuderia re-emerging for Leclerc to go top again with a time of 1m 29.130s, Verstappen now 0.072s behind. Bottas rounded out the top five ahead of Hamilton, while Gasly took seventh. In the provisional drop zone was Stroll, Schumacher, Vettel, Ricciardo and Russell, who backed out of two efforts with the car porpoising heavily. Leclerc improved in Sector 1, set a purple second sector, but couldn’t improve in his third. Lewis Hamilton abandoned his first effort and a subsequent lap was deleted for track limits, putting the Mercedes driver in the drop zone with time ticking down. Q3 saw the reigning champion take provisional pole but Leclerc eclipsed him for a final pole time of 1m 28.796s, Sainz filing in second by 0.190s. That meant Alonso (who felt he was impeded by compatriot Carlos Sainz) missed out by just 0.032s – and Russell finished P12 amid severe porpoising, another 0.013s off the two-time champion. Perez’s first effort put him half a second behind in P4. Between them was Lando Norris, eighth in qualifying despite going P3 in Q2. Lance Stroll rounded out the top 10 for Aston Martin.

The five F1 drivers that shocked us during Miami GP qualifying (crash.net)

F1's inaugural qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix was an exciting one as Ferrari locked out the front-row with Charles Leclerc on pole position. Here.

Kevin Magnussen was knocked out in Q1 for the second time this season as he struggled to improve in the dying stages of qualifying. Here are five drivers that shocked us on Saturday in Miami. The Mercedes W13 continues to be a very difficult to car which was highlighted by Russell’s run in Q2 where he struggled to keep the car on the track with a couple of oversteer moments. In the Australian’s defence, McLaren was very slow to send Ricciardo out at the end of the season due to an unconfirmed problem, thus he wasn’t able to get his tyres into the right window. A Q3 appearance looked unlikely for Bottas after he ended Q1 down in 15th and was fortunate to make it through given that Esteban Ocon didn’t participate in the session following his shunt in final practice and Alfa Romeo teammate Guanyu Zhou hitting traffic on his last lap. It was a remarkable turnaround for the Finn after he crashed out at Turn 7 in FP1, forcing him to miss the entirety of second practice because Alfa Romeo couldn’t repair his car in time.

George Russell 'confused' by Mercedes inconsistency as Lewis ... (Sky Sports)

George Russell insisted the inconsistency of the Mercedes "is not making a lot of sense" as he qualified a lowly 12th for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix.

"That gap is similar to the beginning of the year, I think. So much amazing work is going on in the background and everyone is working so hard. "We'll keep on chipping away, keep working at it. It has massively gone away from us today and I don't really know why. "Yesterday we were in the fight for pole and today we qualified P12 which is the worst qualifying of the year, so it doesn't make a lot of sense." "When we get it into the window it is fast, but I am just a bit disappointed for myself and for the team, I think the potential is there.

“It doesn’t really make a lot of sense, and it’s sort of flip flopping massively, the performance. “I don’t really know to be honest, because yesterday we were looking like we were going to be in the fight for pole, and today we’re P12, which is the worst qualifying of the year,” he said. “My qualifying lap I did just then was slower than the lap I did in FP2.

'Bouncing like a kangaroo' - why Mercedes were left frustrated (crash.net)

Lewis Hamilton insisted that Mercedes are not “moving forwards” quickly enough after qualifying for the F1 Miami Grand Prix, while Toto Wolff admitted.

In the car I only ever have my earrings on and my nose ring, of which I can’t even remove.” “It is inconsistent. I’ve been in the sport for 16 years and I’ve been wearing jewellery for 16 years. It doesn’t make a lot of sense at the moment. Russell said: “The car felt different today than it did in FP2. The car struggled today with porpoising. “It has not felt better this weekend.
