With so many goals in their team and a manager who usually gets the job done in big games, the case for a home win at 11/10 with Sky Bet is easy to make. With the added backdrop of knowing a draw in either of their next two away games would still leave the title situation in their hands, it's really hard to make a case of this City side throwing in a stinker of a performance. Arsenal have felt the force of Son's goalscoring abilities, conceding three goals to the South Korea forward in the last four Premier League meetings. I have a lot in common with most teams in the Premier League in that Manchester City have a habit of making us look clueless. No team in the Premier League has lost more games than by a solitary goal than the Hornets with 12 one-goal losing margins falling their way. The markets have set the goal-line at around three which leaves the under 2.5 price around 5/4 a bit too bulky to my eyes.

Aguero, Suarez, Fernandinho: Who is the greatest South American ... (GiveMeSport)

Our friends over at FourFourTwo have dropped another banger, as they rank the greatest South Americans to ever grace the Premier League.

Ederson loses to Alisson once again as the shot-stopper can only manage eighth position. The controversial Tevez takes fourth spot. Had he handled himself better on the pitch, he would surely have been Ballon d’Or worthy. Whilst the Uruguayan can’t boast the longevity of Aguero, his impact could be perceived as far greater. Let’s also not forget that iconic last-minute winner against QPR which earnt the club their very first crown – it will take something special to knock ‘Kun Aguero’ off his perch. There could only ever have been one man at top spot and Aguero takes the prize.

Premier League 2021-22: Liverpool beat Villa, keep title hopes alive (NewsBytes)

After a disappointing 1-1 draw in their previous Premier League match versus Tottenham, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool returned to winning ways.

As per William Hill, Liverpool are the first team to beat Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa side multiple times in the Premier League (1-0 and 2-1). They have managed to score more in a PL campaign once before, in 2013-14 (48) when they finished second behind Manchester City. Having played 35 games, City have notched 27 wins, five draws, and 3 losses (86 points). They have scored 89 goals, besides conceding 21. Liverpool are behind on goal difference now, having played a game more. Liverpool went behind early on when Douglas Luiz scored after keeper Alisson failed to hold his header. The Reds saw off a spirited Aston Villa side, coming from behind to seal a 2-1 win.

As things stand, the Premier League title race could be decided on goal difference, as Liverpool and Manchester City push things to the wire.

The Reds proceeded to lose 1-0 to Leicester in their next Premier League outing without their influential left-back, and were also held to a 2-2 draw against Chelsea without Robertson. In Liverpool’s case, the Reds sit second with 86 points from 36 games, and a goal difference of +65. The Citizens sit atop England’s top-flight with 86 points to their name from 35 outings, with a goal difference of +68.

Wolves: Three losses from the last four is not good enough for Bruno Lage's men and points will be needed against one of City or Liverpool if Europe is to be reached. The Hammers are arguably the toughest opponents but there might not be anything left to play for if Villa do City a favor against Liverpool. This one should be easy enough for the visitors who know that three more wins will seal the title. City: Kyle Walker, John Stones, and Ruben Dias are all out for the rest of this season. Wolves: Daniel Podence will miss out, although he is expected to be back before the end of this season. Can they halt City's progress and help Liverpool back into the race?

Liverpool supporter explains why Manchester City deserve to win ... (Football365.com)

Are Manchester City more deserving of the title than Liverpool? Plus, Jon Moss, Schrodinger's champions, Erling Haaland and lots more...

Ferguson has 13 in 27 (so got one on average once every 4.5 years), Wenger got 3 in 22 years (one every 7.3 years). Klopp is not as good as Ferguson, but better than Wenger (but if he doesn’t win the PL in the next couple of years, he’ll slip) – of course, I’ll conced that that is another entirely made up metric to support a straw man argument, which others would be right to ignore. More points today doesn’t mean a team was better than a team that played 25 years ago – it just doesn’t. It just means that the league was more competitive back then and that even the best team wasn’t guaranteed three points against two thirds of their opponents before a ball is kicked. In thst sense Klopp probably is a “better” manager in a strict qualitative sense, but so too are most of the top flight managers. It’ll be interesting to see where other players who are being chased by a myriad of the big clubs across Europe (Nkunku for example) end up going in the summer. And now is the time to win the league, what with Haaland coming in next year. Man City have already had one of these in Sergio Aguero, yet still were unable to win the Champions League with one of the Premier Leagues best ever strikers. And who knows, maybe it will be time to break out the narrative klaxon if the title race is in the hands of Steven Gerrard. Haaland is most likely being signed to win the Champions League. In the Premier League Man City already win around 30 games a season, and score lots of goals. But they absolutely cannot move to a club more likely to win trophies as we’ll be right in contention for a lot next season as well. Obviously it’s to draw the other towards our goal and create that space for a fast transition, but when the other team doesnt take the bait…we’re stuck. It’s a shame we couldn’t win the title this year because all season I kept thinking “wow if city had an actual striker this could have been a win/cricket score” against Liverpool the lack of a striker cost them 2 or 3 good chances. The fact is, it’s also possible for City to pretty much wrap up the title before Liverpool play again.

Sunday’s (Monday NZT) victory at Leicester was Everton’s first on the road in the Premier League since August but the team were unable to follow it up with a second as Watford recorded their first post-pandemic clean sheet at Vicarage Road. With City comfortably leading, Guardiola opted to withdraw Fernandinho and Foden for the final 15 minutes as Riyad Mahrez and Grealish came on to see out the closing stages of the win. Wolves came out firing in the second half in search of a way back, but it was City who got the next goal as De Bruyne got his fourth with a right-footed finish this time. The hosts joy didn't last too long as City were back in front five minutes later, with De Bruyne bagging his second goal with another left-footed finish in the box.

Premier League hits and misses: Kevin De Bruyne is decisive ... (Sky Sports)

Plus: Sadio Mane becoming the Liverpool poster boy after scoring the winner for Aston Villa; Mason Mount proving he is Chelseas present and future star.

Luke Ayling is also out for the campaign with suspension, while Patrick Bamford, Tyler Roberts and Adam Forshaw are out injured, meaning Marsch was forced to name four players on the bench against Chelsea who are yet to play in the Premier League this season. Jack Harrison and Raphinha are also injury doubts after coming off against Chelsea - Marsch said the former suffered a "contusion" that limited his movement - and the American's squad is starting to look desperately thin. It was never going to be a classic, and so it proved. There were still 35 minutes on the clock when Christian Pulisic doubled Chelsea's lead at Elland Road, but both they and Leeds seemed to know that the game was up. "He initially came in on the right wing then moved to the left when Salah arrived," said Jamie Carragher after the Villa game. "Diaz comes in on the left and Mane goes to centre forward. Yet the Senegalese winger's expert header against Villa symbolises how flexible Mane has had to be in that fixed front three, with Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz now in the competition mixer too. "I have a feeling he has started to enjoy scoring," he revealed. But I think this season he has also had the sense to be prolific to score goals. In the 18 months or so before Klopp had joined, Liverpool had signed the likes of Christian Benteke, Mario Balotelli and Ings - all of whom flopped very quickly. The third of the four was De Bruyne's favourite, a rasping drive with his so-called weaker foot that showcased his extraordinary technique. That has always been Kevin De Bruyne but where he would once look to influence games with his passing now he has added decisive goals too.

Premier League prize money is £2.2m a place: in the boardroom ... (The Athletic)

On a sliding scale from top to bottom, every place in the Premier League is worth roughly £2.2 million in prize money this season.

“We need to finish as high as possible because it’s worth a lot of money, the positions where we finish in the league.” There is no trophy for finishing ninth in the Premier League nor glory in ending up 10th. That sum is due to tumble this season but the final days of the campaign will decide by how much. At the back end of a season due to finish on Sunday week, five points currently separate six clubs from ninth to 14th. It will get there because there’s still growth in the market but it’s still going to hurt clubs for a few years yet. For the middling Premier League clubs it’s the approximate financial equivalent of two years of a shirt sponsorship deal. “All these clubs are still in recovery mode after COVID-19. It’s going to take a couple of years before it’s completely back to normal. “This new agreement will continue that trend with a subtle change that further incentivises on-pitch achievement and maintains the Premier League’s position as the most equitable in Europe in terms of sharing central revenues,” said then chief executive Richard Scudamore in 2018. The existing levels of international revenue would continue to be shared out equally among the 20 clubs but any increase would be distributed on where a team finished in the league table. On a sliding scale from top to bottom, every place in the Premier League is worth roughly £2.2 million in prize money this season. The Premier League’s annual pot — all £2.5 billion of it — is clinically divided up at a season’s end. In the region of £13 million.
