In the Zone: Champions League final tactical analysis (UEFA.com)

UEFA's Technical Observer panel casts an expert eye over Saturday's UEFA Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Amid the incredible late drama that Madrid have scripted on their path to this final, they have also sought to make an early impact in matches with inventive kick-off routines. Three white shirts went in instant pursuit of the ball as Paris restarted at 2-1; they won it back and, in a flash, Benzema had his hat-trick. Back in 2018/19 the UEFA Champions League technical report highlighted Salah’s five shots on goal from set-plays cleared to the edge of the penalty box. In the following round, Ibrahima Konaté highlighted his aerial menace with strikes from corners in both legs against Benfica. As the heatmap of Alexander-Arnold’s touches underlines, he is ever more involved in the opposition half. As well as four assists, Alexander-Arnold has completed more crosses (23) than any other player in the 2021/22 competition, while Robertson (two assists) ranks joint-fourth in that category with 16.

Champions League Final 2022 LIVE: Liverpool vs Real Madrid ... (talkSPORT.com)

Liverpool will need to bounce back from their Premier League heartbreak quickly if they are to claim Champions League glory when they face Real Madrid.

Liverpool won the first final back in 1981 (1-0), before Real Madrid beat Jürgen Klopp’s side 3-1 in 2018. The current-most is three, which was also by Real Madrid in the 2018 final (Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos). Free Bets are paid as Bet Credits and are available for use upon settlement of qualifying bets. In this period, Salah is one of only two players with 30+ goals and 10+ assists in the competition, along with Lionel Messi. - Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold could make his third appearance in a UEFA Champions League final. We have a week now to prepare for the final and that is what we will do. - This will be the ninth meeting between Liverpool and Real Madrid in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League – after winning the first three between 1981 and 2009, the Reds are winless in the last five (D1 L4), including a defeat in the final in 2018. - Liverpool and Real Madrid will meet for the third time in the final of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League, the most between two clubs across the history of the two competitions. “What I learned about life is, if you stay focused and keep going, you get the reward. - Liverpool are looking to win the European Cup/UEFA Champions League for the seventh time in their history – a victory in Paris would take them level with AC Milan (7), and leave them only behind opponents Real Madrid (13) for the most overall victories across the two competitions. You can also listen via the talkSPORT app, on DAB digital radio, through your smart sparker and on 1089 or 1053 AM. “There is incredible expectation on this team, but that’s ok.

How to bet Liverpool-Real Madrid UEFA Champions League Final (New York Post)

Taking place at the Stade de France, 2019 Champions League victors Liverpool will battle Real Madrid, winners of four UCL titles since the 2013-14 campaign.

For the reasons outlined above, I would play Liverpool up to -145 in regular time as I have it projected at -160. Add in its two group stage fixtures against Inter Milan and the discrepancy becomes even larger. In its last five UCL fixtures, Real’s offense has generated 1.76 xG/90 minutes. Additionally, Liverpool’s defense has played rock-steady in its last six UCL fixtures. Even if you remove the two Benfica matches from consideration, Liverpool’s offensive output drops to only 1.53 xG/90 minutes. This will be a rematch of the 2018 Champions League Final, which saw Real claim its third consecutive European crown after dispatching Liverpool, 3-1.

Thiago injury risk leaves Liverpool facing Champions League Final ... (Mirror.co.uk)

Thiago limped off against Wolves and Jurgen Klopp must now hope the midfielder recovers to face Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris.

Klopp has always wanted his players to show their fitness with a full training session before any game, but the clock is already ticking on that, with the midfielder now forced to rest the injury for several days. But given the proximity of the final, with just five days before the showpiece occasion with Real Madrid, that leaves little time for treatment to the Achilles, which is likely to be a Grade 1 injury, often referred to as tendonitis. After scans on Monday morning, the problem is not thought to be serious, with fears completely eased over a rupture to the Achilles, which would require surgery and rule the player out for several months.

Champions League: Ranking the top 10 finals of all time (GiveMeSport)

With Liverpool set to face Real Madrid in the Champions League Final this weekend, football fans are gearing up for yet another exciting encounter on ...

Vladimír Šmicer was on target just two minutes later, before Xabi Alonso equalised in the 60th minute. Atletico had won La Liga just days before they were set to play Real in the Champions League Final – the stage was set for an intriguing encounter. Drogba stepped up to hit the winner in dramatic fashion. Wolfsburg equalised again through Verena Faißt, before Müller scored the winner 10 minutes from full-time. A 10-man Arsenal hung on to their lead until the 70th minute, before they finally caved in to their talented opponents. The Red Devils went ahead first through Cristiano Ronaldo, before Frank Lampard equalised just before half-time. Goals from Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo put the fixture to bed. The second half was goalless, but still as entertaining. Juventus hit back through Alessandro Del Piero in the 65th minute, but Lars Ricken secured victory for Dortmund with a delectable chip just six minutes later. This seven-goal thriller in the Women’s Champions League is one for the ages. Although the majority of Chelsea and Bayern Munich’s encounter in the 2012 Champions League Final was goalless, the match will go down in history. The result was one of the greatest upsets in a Champions League Final.

Liverpool missed out on securing a second Premier League title of Jurgen Klopp's reign on Sunday afternoon, with Manchester City rallying at home to Aston Villa to confirm their status as champions.

UEFA Champions League final: When is it, who's favoured and how ... (The Athletic)

On Saturday, May 28 Liverpool will face Real Madrid in the 2022 Champions League final. Months of hard work, determination and improbable results will come ...

Once again, Benzema was the hero for Real Madrid, scoring from the spot in extra time. Ancelotti’s side were stunned at the Bernabeu, though, as Chelsea went 3-0 up with 15 minutes left to play. There, they met Chelsea, who had defeated them in the semi-finals of last season’s competition. Unai Emery’s Villarreal awaited Liverpool in the semi-finals, a tie which appeared foregone after an impressive 2-0 home victory in the first leg. In previous years, BT have made the Champions League (and Europa League) final available to watch for free on YouTube, but no announcement has yet been made on that. Real Madrid lost the first leg in Paris 1-0 and then conceded just before half-time in the return fixture at the Bernabeu. Just as it looked as though they were down and out, a sensational second-half hat-trick from captain Karim Benzema secured a place in the quarter-finals. Two first-half goals from Villarreal in the return fixture then jolted Liverpool into life, who secured their place in the final with three goals of their own after the break. Liverpool fans who want to leave England on Friday for a night in Paris before the match will have to pay for the privilege — a seat on the 7.25pm Easyjet flight costs £605.99, with flights the following morning just under £500. Liverpool supporters hoping to travel to Paris to watch their team play in the Champions League final against Real Madrid face huge sums to get there, with direct flights between north England and Paris exceeding £600. For this year’s final, 20,000 seats in the Stade de France will be allocated to fans of each of Liverpool and Real Madrid, with applicants able to buy two tickets. The 80,000-seater stadium hosted the Champions League final in 2000 and 2006, as well as the finals of Euro 2016 and the 1998 World Cup. As a result, this year’s final was due to take place at the original host of the 2021 final, Zenit Saint Petersburg’s Gazprom Arena, with the Allianz Arena to host the showpiece event in 2023.

Recent performances have also shown why Matip should return to the starting line-up for Saturday's final even though he has sat out five of Liverpool's last seven Champions League games. As recounted by Warnock, Konate misjudged Jose Sa's goal kick, allowing Raul Jimenez to burst into the final third with a two-on-one and find Pedro Neto to tap-in from close range. "It's a mistake from Ibrahima Konate, who is in for Virgil van Dijk," former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock told BBC Sport at the time.
