Taika Waititi Teases Thor & Jane's MCU Futures After Love & Thunder (Screen Rant)

Director Taika Waititi thinks fans are misreading what Jane's Mighty Thor introduction in Love and Thunder means for her and Thor's MCU futures.

If Thor: Love and Thunder adheres relatively close to the source material, then Jane should have a continuing presence in the MCU, as she was a crucial part of the Secret Wars story within Marvel Comics. Although Waititi claims he does not have knowledge of any plans that Marvel Studios has for the characters, the director must be aware of the potential directions for both Thor and Jane following the end of the film that he himself wrote. In the original source material, the Nine Realms was left without a Thor as its protector, leaving it vulnerable to many enemies. The new Thor: Love and Thunder trailer sees Thor and Jane reunite after over eight years of being apart, now in roles different from their previous appearances. And also, it’s really fun, the idea that Thor [has] got Stormbreaker, that big axe, and now his hammer’s back and it’s in the hands of someone else. It’s the idea that someone’s taking his place.

Thor: Love and Thunder New Image Reunites Chris Hemsworth and ... (Comicbook.com)

Thor Odinson and Jane Foster are swole-mates in a new image from Thor: Love and Thunder. On Monday, Marvel Studios released the full trailer for director ...

To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg, and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who — to Thor's surprise — inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher's vengeance and stop him before it's too late. Going from dad bod to god bod to get back in superhero shape after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the retired space viking is on a quest for inner peace when ex-girlfriend Jane — now wielding Mjolnir as The Mighty Thor — returns to help Thor, Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), and Korg (Waititi) conquer the blood-thirsty Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). "I wanted to embrace this thing that I was always a bit dismissive of, and explore this idea of love, and show characters who do believe in love," Waititi previously told Empire Magazine of Phase 4's Thor 4.

Thor: Love and Thunder Teased That Jane Has Been Thor for a While (CBR)

Thor: Love and Thunder has finally introduced Jane Foster's identity as the Mighty Thor. But how long has the scientist been a hero?

But as more moments get shown where Jane's skills as a hero could keep up with Thor and others like her, the more likely it is that her first real bad guy wasn't her actual first enemy. No matter the explanation, there's no doubt that Jane has had enough experience with her new power to gain the skills necessary to survive combat against other Gods and deadly creatures. But even if she were Thor during that time, rather than erased from existence, there were certianly events that gave her experience against slightly more advanced enemies.

As a result, she uses the hammer as an extension of herself rather than a powerful weapon as Thor did. In that window where Thor was hammerless, her own will could have pulled the pieces back together and been the reason that she became the new wielder. What's even more intriguing than that ability is the question of how it could hold itself together in a way that Thor was never able to do.

Russell Crowe's Zeus Joins the MCU In THOR: LOVE AND ... (Nerdist)

Thor: Love and Thunder will bring Russell Crowe's Zeus to the MCU, but will the Olympian leader be around long with Gorr the God Butcher on the hunt?

Will the Butcher’s quest mean Zeus and the Olympians are also his targets in Love and Thunder? If so, Russell Crowe’s time as Zeus in the MCU may end as quickly as the mystery of who he’d play. What business will the God of Thunder have with the God of the Thunderbolt? Zeus and Thor might very well find themselves with a common enemy. And with All-Black the Necrosword and his cloak of tendrils, he can kill any god he likes. Without the nectar of the Gods they too can die, as both Odin and Loki have in the MCU. For though all the Marvel Olympians are powerful, Zeus is unquestionably the strongest, having defeated both Hulk and Galactus in combat. In Marvel Comics, Zeus Panhellenios exists, same as the Norse god Odin and the Egyptian god Osiris. Zeus reigns over his fellow Olympians, who the Ancient Greeks and Romans worshipped.

Love & Thunder Trailer Secretly Hints At Thor's Tragic Death (Screen Rant)

Marvel Studios releases a new trailer for Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder secretly hinting at the tragic death of Thor (Chris Hemsworth).

Whatever the case may be, everything that has been revealed through Thor: Love and Thunder's trailers looks solid. The Thor: Love and Thunder trailer opens with Korg (Taika Waititi) telling the story of Thor, particularly focusing on the Asgardian's mission on Earth and weight-loss journey after his Fat Thor stint in Avengers: Endgame. Noticeably, however, the Kronan talks about the God of Thunder in the past tense, hinting that by the time he recalls Thor's adventures, he is no longer around. Thor fans should be having a fantastic start to their week with the release of a fantastic new trailer for the upcoming film Thor: Love and Thunder.

"If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn't make sense," the director added, "It's almost like it shouldn't be made. An Instagram artist that goes by the handle @Clements.Ink shared a new piece that imagines Beta Ray Bill in live-action. Thor Love & Thunder: 9 Best Twitter Reactions To The Full Trailer (Screen Rant)

After the full trailer dropped for Thor: Love and Thunder, fans are already making callbacks and comparisons of the God of Thunder's new adventure.

Even though it's a hyperbolic statement, the trailer has already convinced fans of Waititi's style that Love and Thunder will be another movie to add to the list of favorite MCU movies. Some fans thought the Scarlet Witch was a terrifying villain, but Gorr might shape up to be even more dread-inducing than Wanda at her worst. In Endgame, Scott Lang famously says the line "That's America's Ass!" to Steve Rogers while time traveling and seeing past Cap's iconic behind. Christian Bale is one of the greatest living actors and has previously sworn he was done with comic book movies. Honestly, Loki dying in the MCU has happened so many times that at this point, it has become a long-running joke. Gorr is a character hell-bent on a mission and his extremist tendencies have him looking like this kid about to pop a blood vessel in some scenes. With no Loki apparently in this film, this is a heartwarming tribute. The similarly thin symbiotic-like model walks with a purpose and vehemence like the God Butcher promises. Fans made connections between other characters like Voldemort and Skeletor, but also this classic iconic meme of a distressed kid in class. With the '80s music, throwback vibes, a skeletal villain, and a long blond-haired hero — the similarities between the two franchises were more apparent in the trailer and poster than ever. Some fans created a hypothetical crossover in their own mind from the trailer alone. Fans quickly made sure Thor channeled his inner Agatha Harkness.

Thor: Love and Thunder Trailer Is Hiding Lots More MCU Gods - IGN (IGN)

The first official trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder is hiding plenty more MCU gods... but will they appear in the upcoming movie or are they long gone?

At one point, the Living Tribunal was set to appear in Avengers: Infinity War but was cut, but seemingly made a tiny appearance in the background of Doctor Strange 2. However, he’s usually depicted as a universal constant – unphased by the trials and tribulations of the universe. Unlike Death, Eternity tends not to take an active interest in the dealings of the universe, but instead is often the target of attacks from those who wish to wield his power. As such, he has control over every living being in the entire universe with the exception of The Living Tribunal (more on that below). He’s essentially the collective consciousness of every living being in the entire universe. Eon is a quasi-physical entity believed to be responsible for numerous phenomena on Earth. He monitors all life across the universe, paying special attention to those with immense power.

New 'Thor: Love And Thunder' Trailer Goes Full 'He-Man' And 'She-Ra' (Forbes)

As frankly prophesized three years ago, this is essentially “Marvel stomps on Sony or Netflix's attempts to make a He-Man movie.”

It’s a little depressing that Thor would still be pining for Jane Foster (and apparently, she for him) 11 years after their first meeting, as you’d hope that both respective A+ dating specimens would have moved on. They can approximate other genres and even other franchises with unlimited financial resources and a built-in fanbase that A) will show up and B) will automatically hold MCU products in higher regard. Love & Thunder’s biggest commercial advantage is the mere fact that audiences who aren’t still obsessed with the MCU as a brand will still show up because they liked Thor: Ragnarök. How old-fashioned... Who cares if Sony and/or Netflix ever gets around to making a He-Man movie when you have both Thor: Ragnarök and now Thor: Love & Thunder? That’s no discredit to the folks who put it together, but it was one of those cases, like the first teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, where no one wanted to put a trailer out then and needed to cobble together 110-seconds worth of footage while saving most of the goodies for the next reveal. The first teaser for Thor: Love & Thunder, released in mid-April, was seemingly a capitulation to online fandoms demanding a trailer “right now.” It was frankly a halfhearted affair.

At the very moment he was to activate the Godbomb, Gorr realized that in his quest for power, influence, and self-satisfaction, he had become a god himself. And that was the moment that Gorr the God Butcher was born. Gorr only appeared at the beginning and the very end of that run, but his legacy was felt throughout, as an embodiment of its themes. Enraged that a god would ask him for help after his life of prayer had gone unheeded, Gorr took up the other god’s blade and murdered the first. Jason Aaron and Esad Ribić created Gorr as the first villain of their 2012 series Thor: God of Thunder, which proved a launching pad for Aaron’s seven-year run at the helm of Marvel’s Asgard stories. As Gorr approached, seeing with his own eyes proof that gods existed, one of the armored figures called out to him ... for help.

Zeus could take offense to this and humiliate his Norse counterpart, which would explain Thor’s birthday suit appearance at the end of the trailer. This indicates that Love and Thunder will also serve as a Gorr origin story, which, if it stays true to the comics, is riddled with tragedy. The God of Thunder dons a new winged helmet that covers his face, unlike the one he wore briefly in 2011’s Thor and the Sakaar battle armor he sported in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. Oddly enough, Jane and Valkyrie watch from the crowd, amused by their friend’s torment, not unlike Loki on Sakaar in Thor: Ragnarok. If the mighty one goes the way of his father and evaporates into the stars, this “Story of the Space Viking” could serve as a tribute. First revealed in the opening act of Avengers: Endgame, New Asgard rebranded the formerly regal civilization as a fishing colony, as the Asgardians traded in their golden robes for neon rain jackets. Jane questions if it had been “three years” since she last saw Thor, to which the Stormbreaker-wielding hero corrects her to eight years and change. How did her relationship with SHIELD change after the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Was she a victim of Thanos’ snap? Korg could be catching his audience up on the “500 times” Thor has saved the world in the past, or he could be recounting the life of his inactive Asgardian buddy. That, or this could be a tribute story to the original Avenger after he has passed. The second Thor: Love and Thunder trailer opens with Taika Waititi’s Korg narrating a campfire story about the titular character. Following the first director to helm a full trilogy and the first origin story on Disney+ comes Thor: Love and Thunder, the first time a solo franchise has received a fourth installment.

'Thor: Love and Thunder' Trailer Breakdown: All Gods Must Fall (Collider.com)

What happened to Thor's dad bod? Who is Christian Bale playing? We breakdown the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer.

Thor: Love and Thunder also seem to be bringing new cosmic characters to the MCU. Or at least the movie confirms these characters exist. The most precious moment of the new trailer shows Hemsworth entirely naked. First, the new trailer teases the relationship between Thor Odinson ( Chris Hemsworth) and the new God of Thunder, his ex-girlfriend Jane ( Natalie Portman). Then, we got the best look yet at the villain Gorr, the God Butcher (Christian Bale). Finally, the most exciting bit of them all, we almost get to see Hemsworth fully naked! While Gorr talks about killing every god, we get another look at the giant snow beat we saw in the first trailer. If Gorr can destroy entire planets with a single attack, he’s a threat to the whole universe and must be stopped at all costs. So, let’s break down all the key moments of Thor: Love and Thunder’s latest trailer and find out what new exciting things director Taika Waititi is bringing to the MCU. Each piece of the shattered hammer behaves just as the whole tool, flying away according to its owner’s will. Thor: Love and Thunder’s latest trailer also gives us a good look at Gorr, a villain who’s convinced all gods are selfish creatures who only bring pain to the people. While Gorr looks different in the comic books, the villain’s motivations remain the same in the new trailer. While Korg is sharing Thor’s legend, we get a new glimpse at New Asgard, the nation ruled by Queen Valkyrie ( Tessa Thompson). While New Asgard looked somewhat rural during the events of Avengers: Endgame, the country seems to have grown under Valkyrie’s ruling, becoming a great city and a touristic attraction. The trailer opens with everyone's favorite rock man Korg (voiced by Waititi), who’s spreading the word of Thor to a group of young blue aliens. While we still don’t know if the MCU version of Gorr will get his powers in the same way he got them in comic books, the movie version of the trailer is indeed powerful.

Thor: Love and Thunder - Explaining Marvel's Zeus, Hercules and ... (IGN)

Thor and his fellow Asgardians aren't the only gods in town. Let's break down the pantheon of gods in the Marvel Universe, as well as the ones we've seen in ...

Zorr'Kiri is the Skrull Goddess of Love, and is a prime candidate for Love and Thunder considering she was one of the many killed by Gorr the God Butcher in the comics. In terms of world-building, Hercules’ short-lived God Squad included the Inuit god Narya/Snowbird, Greece’s Venus/Siren, and even the all-powerful Ra/Atum from Egypt. Although they might not warrant their own movie, the MCU is building more teams by the day. In the comics, humanity mistook the Eternals for the Greek gods. Then there’s Amatsu-Mikaboshi - the Japanese God of Evil - who just so happens to be a major enemy of Hercules and Thor. After his introduction in 1965’s Journey Into Mystery Annual #1, Hercules has done everything from leading his own series to suiting up as part of the Avengers. With Hercules effectively seen as Thor’s Greek counterpart, he’s a prime candidate to replace Chris Hemsworth onscreen as the MCU’s resident god Avenger, if the Thor actor ever bows out. Although superhero movie fans might associate Zeus, Ares, and Hercules with the DC Extended Universe thanks to Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, Marvel has its own Greek gods waiting in the wings.

Thor: Love and Thunder Trailer Hides a Huge What If...? Easter Egg ... (CBR)

An Easter egg in the trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder references a key character from another Marvel Cinematic Universe project: What If...?

Love and Thunder's latest trailer gave fans a proper look at the film's primary villain, Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale. Writer/Director Taika Waititi has described Bale's Gorr as "very formidable" and "probably the best villain that Marvel's ever had." Voiced by Jeffrey Wright, the Watcher introduced and analyzed each episode of What If...?, eventually involving himself in the story by the end of the first season. Airing in 2021, What If...? was met with mixed reviews from fans, though some of the characters were popular enough to have made live-action appearances in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A second season of What If...? is currently in development, with head writer A.C. Bradley confirming it's set to air sometime in 2022. Thor: Love and Thunder lands in theaters on July 8. The trailer also introduced Russell Crowe as Zeus, expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe's cosmology to include the Greek Pantheon as well as the Norse. This also comes hot on the heels of the Disney+ series Moon Knight, which brought the Egyptian gods into the MCU and made them a focal point of the story. The full-length Thor 4 trailer includes a scene of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) holding Mjolnir aloft as she takes up the mantle of the Mighty Thor. The moment takes place in a temple of some sort, filled with statues of imposing figures -- one of whom appears to be the Watcher, the narrator of the animated anthology series What If...? The other statues in the shot are unknown, though two bear a resemblance to cosmic Marvel denizens Death and the Living Tribunal.
