Champions League final predictions: Jones Knows previews ... (Sky Sports)

Liverpool take on Real Madrid in this Saturdays Champions League final in Paris; back Jones Knows 9/2 RequestABet with Sky Bet.

I'm expecting much of the same in terms of the match scenario, so Liverpool to win most corners at 4/11 makes sense to add to our best bet. The standout bet is the 8/13 with Sky Bet for there to be under 50 booking points but those that like playing bigger prices also have options. All this adds up to the prices of low cards in the game being very appealing. That's why I am surprised the line is so high for cards as to my figures and feel for the game, a low card count is where the big value lies in the markets. No team in the Premier League won more points from losing positions than Liverpool this season (20). This team does seem to have an extra gear and a liking for extreme comebacks, too. However, how much of the Real Madrid factor do we have to equate in to analysing who lifts the title?

Look for the Egyptian maestro to come out full of energy and drive to make his mark on this contest. And when you're among the best players at your position, you would expect a little swagger to go with it. The numbers and nice words from legendary teammates are not only products of Benzema the player, but also Benzema the clutch performer. The Reds have already failed to capture one of them, and they're sweating on the fitness of two key midfielders in Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara ahead of trying to grab the other. Ibrahima Konate has stepped in and is so far undefeated as a Red. Andy Roberton had another solid season. Karim Benzema was the consensus top player among the CBS Sports staff as Real Madrid finished with 14 on the list.

Having shaken off a minor injury from the FA Cup final, expect to see the Egyptian burst out of the blocks in a bid to get revenge for the injury and defeat that Madrid inflicted on him four years ago. With speculation swirling that the 30-year-old could be of interest to Bayern Munich if Robert Lewandowski moves on, might this be a final shot at UCL success with the Reds for Mane? -- Jonathan Johnson Alcântara has overcome a slow start to his Liverpool experience and he's worked his way into becoming one of the go-to players of this team. If he brings his finishing boots to the Champions League final, Vini Jr. could end up being the most important player on the pitch as his link-up play with Benzema has been next level for Los Blancos. -- Chuck Booth The Brazilian goalkeeper is part of the heart and soul of this successful Liverpool era and his lengthy absences in years past only reinforced his worth to this squad. It won't be all that surprising if he is on the bench to start the final, but it also wouldn't come as a shock if he comes off that bench and makes a huge impact. Liverpool has some of the best weapons in the world at the outside back positions and Robertson motoring up and down the left flank will go a long way to keeping Real Madrid at bay. His average of a goal every 129 minutes in Europe and the Premier League is bettered only by Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi. -- James Benge The Brazilian attacker already scored five goals in 10 Champions League's matches, including the crucial one against Chelsea in the second leg of the quarterfinals and most importantly the brace he scored against Manchester City in the second leg of the semifinal. The England man has played over 300 matches for the Reds and is the heart and soul of the midfield. The Guinea international has never quite managed to convince all of his critics, but he is capable of delivering big performances and there has never been a better time for one of those. His effort is always there, he has a knack for well-timed tackles, and whenever the backline is a little thin, he's the first in line to step up and deliver.

On a brighter note, this is the game that surely tempted Liverpool to spend the big bucks on Alisson. Real were still playing at the Alfredo Di Stefano while the Santiago Bernabeu underwent renovations. It was the knockout stage in 2008-09, an edition of the competition that was won by Barcelona. The first leg in Madrid saw Yossi Benayoun score the game's only goal before a thrashing in the second leg. Los Blancos would rip through the group stage with a perfect 6-0-0 record, including two wins over the Reds. The first was a 3-0 win on Matchday 3 at Anfield with Karim Benzema scoring twice and Cristiano Ronaldo also finding the net. The action gets underway on Saturday in Paris. It will be Real Madrid against Liverpool in a clash between two teams that know plenty about reaching the summit of European soccer. Champions League Final Preview: Liverpool vs. Real Madrid (The New York Times)

Real Madrid and Liverpool will square off on Saturday in Paris. The game is a rematch of the 2018 final.

Real Madrid is in the final for the fifth time since 2014; in each of its previous four visits since 2014, its fans will quickly point out, it has left with the trophy. In that sense, Liverpool is probably the toughest test Madrid could have faced in the final. But the nature of the way the team plays, conjuring those irresistible surges, is not. Real Madrid has been able to snatch victory from defeat against three of the best-equipped opponents in Europe because its players believe in the club’s almost mystical refusal to wilt. But Madrid has been helped by the fact that the opposition are inclined to believe it, too. The final also was the first time that Pérez and the UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin, met in person since a Pérez-led effort to create a European Super League failed spectacularly just over a year ago. Instead, the tournament organizer, UEFA, and city officials hosted fans of the rival teams in separate venues closer to the city limits. Yes, in a way. To win its seventh European Cup on Saturday, Liverpool will have to break that sequence. Paris was easily able to absorb the influx of fans, though in its usual tourist hot spots there was little sign that soccer’s biggest game was in town. Paris St.-Germain almost looked as if it were waiting for the wave to crash. Real Madrid, which won the Spanish league this year, is chasing a record 14th Champions League title after narrowly dodging elimination in the semifinals.

Liverpool hope to secure a third trophy this season, while Real Madrid seek to add to their La Liga triumph.

“It is a great success for all of us to be here. The final promises to be a fitting climax to the European season, with Liverpool looking to win a second Champions League in four seasons since losing 1-3 to Real Madrid in Kyiv in 2018, when Mohamed Salah went off injured in the first half and Gareth Bale scored twice for the Spaniards. Liverpool and Real Madrid meet in the Champions League final for the second time in five years, with Jurgen Klopp’s side aiming to end the season with a trophy treble while the Spanish giants will look to Karim Benzema to inspire them to a record-extending 14th European Cup victory.

The Joy of Six: Liverpool v Real Madrid (The Guardian)

From a first Paris meeting to a bizarre Covid spectacle via some big nights at Anfield, here are half a dozen memorable matches.

The club later said he was concussed after a collision with Ramos. Whatever the cause, his errors gifted Madrid a 13th European Cup. It took the momentum out of Liverpool’s play and Madrid finished the half the better side. He scored 61 goals in all competitions that season but, remarkably, Madrid did not win La Liga or the Champions League. Barcelona – and that man Messi – won the treble. Fernando Torres was irresistible and played as though he was trying to kill the club he grew up hating, tormenting Pepe and a 35-year-old Fabio Cannavaro with his pace and off-the-shoulder runs and giving Liverpool a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. Gerrard was fighting a losing battle with his ageing limbs, too, and it showed. When Madrid next turned up at Anfield, only three players – Marcelo, Pepe and Casillas – remained from that harrowing night in 2009 and Carlo Ancelotti was in charge. Dossena did it again a few days later, scoring in the 4-1 defeat of Manchester United that firmly put Liverpool back into the Premier League title race. If that sounds outlandish, Dossena, who was more noteworthy for how amply he filled his Liverpool shirt than what he did in it, nipped in to score a fourth. Some fleet-footed trickery from Ryan Babel helped to create a second for Gerrard early in the second half and then the match entered its trippy phase. As for Madrid, the shocking defeat sparked a second era of gálacticos at the Bernabéu, where Alonso would be strutting his stuff just months later. “It went in and I ran behind the goal to celebrate.” It was Liverpool’s – and Bob Paisley’s – third European Cup, putting them one ahead of Nottingham Forest and him one ahead of Brian Clough. That it came against the record six-time winners made it all the sweeter. For clubs with such rich history in Europe it seems strange now that this was the first time they met.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid: A date with destiny beckons in Paris (Independent Online)

Premier League runners up Liverpool and Spanish La Liga kings Real Madrid will go head-to-head in Saturday night's UEFA Champions League final in Paris.

It is the experience of this core that Real Madrid is able to rely on when the going gets tough in key matches. Will his words come back to haunt him after the game tonight?. And this is the challenge that Jurgen Klopp and his Reds troop face in Paris tonight. From there, Los Blancos would pull one back before the interval from Ballon D'Or front runner Karim Benzema as the sides headed to half time with City 2-1 up. A date with destiny beckons tonight and Real will look to ensure that there is another party with their legion of fans at their customary point of title celebrations, the Cibeles Fountain in the heart of Madrid, come the early hours of Sunday morning when they return from the French capital. It is a comeback not only right up there with those that Real have pulled off against both PSG and Chelsea this season, but it can also take pride of place alongside Barcelona's famous comeback against PSG when the Blaugrana overturned a 4-0 deficit suffered at the Parc de Princes to slaughter the Parisians 6-1 at the Camp Nou in their Champions League round of 16 second leg clash.

Liverpool fans are stuck trying to enter Stade de France ahead of kickoff.

Liverpool hit the post in the first half and had the most chances in the game, but they could not get one past an unbelievable performance in goal from Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian shotstopper, a loser in the final with Atletico Madrid against Real Madrid 8 years ago, is now on the winning side with a epic performance that will go down in history, denying Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and company with every chance he had. For the 14th time in their rich, unmatched history, Real Madrid are the kings of the UEFA Champions League. On Saturday, Los Blancos got a second-half goal from Vinicius Jr. on one of their few chances to defeat Liverpool 1-0 in the final in Paris. Jurgen Klopp's team dominated the ball and the chances, but the best opportunity for Los Blancos in the second half resulted in the lone goal. Federico Valverde played a strong ball across the box that found Vinicius Jr. at the back post for a fairly easy finish in the 59th minute, leaving the Reds shell shocked.

Liverpool vs. Real Madrid live score, updates, highlights & lineups ... (Sporting News)

Liverpool take on Real Madrid in the 2022 Champions League final. Follow all the latest updates from the Stade de France in Paris.

50 mins from kickoff: It's hard not to feel for Joel Matip, who has been superb for Liverpool this season, but the presence and problem of Vinicius Jr has probably played a part in Jurgen Klopp's thinking. Will it be number 14 for Real Madrid (and number four for Carlo Ancelotti) or will Liverpool add their seventh European Cup to the Carabao and FA Cup that are already at Anfield for safekeeping this season? Liverpool and Real Madrid have met in this very fixture in Paris once before: in 1981, Alan Kennedy scored the only goal of the game as the English side claimed a 1-0 win at the Parc des Princes. Andy Robertson said yesterday that he hadn't given much thought to the idea of becoming another match-winning left-back in the City of Light, but this is a fixture that still means more than any other. The opening ceremony - from the laying of the protective pitch cover, to the Camila Cabello choreography, to the fireworks - was slick and effective. Meanwhile, the costumed stars of the pre-match entertainment are standing to the side of the pitch, waiting. The Liverpool team bus got held up in traffic outside the ground and, as the teams warm-up on the pitch with less than half an hour to go before kickoff, there are still lots of empty seats in the Liverpool end. Liverpool have a free-kick about 35 yards out and Robertson is going to swing it into the box. Madrid have used the ball well and Luka Modric is starting to come to life, but it's Liverpool who've had the better chances. 36th minute: Vinicius gets the better of Konate this time but Jordan Henderson comes steaming back to clear behind and Liverpool deal with the corner. 43rd minute: GOOAA...no. Benzema brings the ball down beautifully in the Liverpool box and checks back, Dennis Bergkamp style. Anyway, irrespective of that decision, Madrid will probably be the happier of the two sides. Kroos aims a looping free-kick into the Liverpool box and Casemiro is unmarked after a late run.

I'm just really happy and proud of the performance of the team, and when I needed to be there I was there for the team. I think I played a great game and that was the difference." We have officially requested a formal investigation into the causes of these unacceptable issues." Today I needed to win a final - for my career, for all the hard work, to put respect on my name because I don't think I have enough respect, especially England. I saw a lot of criticism that I was not good enough or whatever. In the lead-up to the game, the turnstiles at the Liverpool end became blocked by thousands fans who had purchased fake tickets which did not work in the turnstiles," UEFA said. "I wonder after watching that game if the disappointment of last week, being beaten [to the title] in the last game of the season had somewhere dropped a level of confidence," Wenger pondered. We had a lot of shots but not the clearest. But they never found that special moment where they could finish their chances off, and a lot of that is down to Courtois." But they found Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois in inspired form, with the Belgian pulling off a string of fine saves. After the game, 2DF quizzed Kroos on whether the game turned out as expected and whether he was surprised they were forced to soak up so much pressure against Jurgen Klopp's side. A lack of organisation meant there were shambolic scenes outside the Stade de France before kick-off - leading to a 36-minute delay. It came less than a week after Jurgen Klopp’s side narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.

Benzema was the creator, Modric the distributor, and Carvajal put in a stellar shift in defense to contain Luis Diaz. Fourteen European crowns for Los Blancos, and this never get old for a crew that nobody gave much of a chance to do anything. On top of it, each made an impact in this one. Early on, it looked like it would be the Reds' night with their flurry of chances, but once again they only bent and did not break, scoring and then holding on late. It came in the 21st minute. But as always, they showed why they are the best. The expected goals against Courtois was 2.14, which goes to show just how pivotal he was to the success of the Spanish giants on the night. He closed down well, he was a sure thing in the air and made no mistakes. It might not always be pretty, but boy are they effective and nobody knows how to get the job done better than them. Wasteful. The Reds will feel proud of the chances created but disappointed with how they finished. Federico Valverde played a strong ball across the box that found Vinicius Jr. at the back post for a fairly easy finish in the 59th minute, leaving the Reds shell shocked. Get a report of the Liverpool vs. Real Madrid 2021-22 UEFA Champions League, Final football match.

The 21-year-old became the fifth-youngest player to score in a Champions League final. Courtois continued to keep Liverpool at bay, notably with a superb save from Salah on the right-hand side of the 18-yard box to push the ball past the far post as Ancelotti's side ran out 1-0 winners. Liverpool again peppered the Madrid goal in the opening spells of the second half, but Madrid continued to deny them before Vinicius broke the deadlock on 58 minutes with a comfortable strike. Vinicius netted on 58 minutes as he fired into an empty net from a low cross from the edge of the 18-yard box from Federico Valverde, with Liverpool unable to score amidst a superb performance from Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Salah had the first chance of the game on 16 minutes as he flicked a low cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold only to be denied by Courtois, and Sadio Mane shortly after when he fired a shot into the left bottom corner only for the Madrid goalkeeper's outstretched arm to tip the ball onto the post. A Vinicius Junior strike helped Real Madrid to a record 14th European Cup -- their eighth in the Champions League era -- with a 1-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday in the final at the Stade de France in Paris.

"We had a situation at the fan park this afternoon where some Liverpool fans were queuing up for three hours to get into a free event. "The situation here is a bit of a strange one. There are so many police, riot police and security guards here and their mindset has been to stop anybody without a ticket getting anywhere near the stadium. They don't want anybody near the stadium if they don't have tickets. "In the last few minutes, me and three of my crew were tear-gassed for no reason whatsoever by the French police. "From what I've seen, even at the Liverpool fan park, the French police's attitude has been very heavy-handed with absolutely zero tolerance. The agency reported seeing two fans - one wearing Liverpool attire - wrestled to the ground by stewards and bundled out of the gates. Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates, attending the final as a supporter, had also tweeted: "Absolutely shambolic at the Stade de France. No way in, no way of knowing which way to go. "This is the greatest match in European football and supporters should not have to experience the scenes we have witnessed tonight. "It seems to me that the whole policing operation before this game was ineffective," Solhekol concluded. It has the potential to be very dangerous." "This created a build-up of fans trying to get in.
