Former Africa Cup of Nations winners Zambia are beaten 3-1 by Ivory Coast in their opening Group H qualifier for the 2023 finals.

- Eswatini v Burkina Faso (Johannesburg, 1300) - Group B Zambia have missed the past three Nations Cups and have work to do after Comoros started with three points in Group H earlier on Friday. Meanwhile, second-half efforts from Hassane Bande and Dango Ouattara gave Burkina Faso a 2-0 win over Cape Verde in Group B, with Eswatini grabbing a 2-2 draw away against Togo in the group's other game.

Hosts for the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, Ivory Coast, got their campaign to a flyinf start, beating Zambia 3-1 on Friday.

After 67 minutes of no goals, Wilfred Zaha’s impact was immediately felt after his introduction in the second half. Jean Kouassi’s pass into the box was turned home by PSV Eindhoven’s Ibrahim Sangare. A quickly taken corner by Zaha was crossed by Max Gradel into Zambia’s box and met an unmarked Serge Aurier at the backpost who thankfully tucked it into the back of the net.
