Multiple fires broke out on the Helderberg Mountain in Somerset West on Wednesday and firefighters have been battling to contain them since.

Firefighters are still battling flames on the Helderberg Mountain near Somerset West, outside Cape Town, after strong winds caused flareups overnight.

Many wild animals are in distress after the fire near Tableview and the re-ignited blaze on the Lourensford mountain slopes.
