India vs South Africa: Proteas trump Men in Blue in battle of ... (Firstpost)

South Africa outperformed India in all departments and went 2-0 up in the five-match T20I series with a comfortable four-wicket win in Cuttack on Sunday.

Pandya tried to cut, but the ball came too close to him for that, and he was bowled. They lost two more wickets, of Axar and Iyer, and could add only another 56 in the last seven overs despite Karthik’s onslaught. Earlier in the night, India had a mini-collapse in the middle overs, and were suddenly four down in the 13th over. He hit the first ball he faced to cover, but Bavuma could not hold on. Pant had already left the crease, and the ball was so far away that all he could do was hit towards off as hard as possible without reaching its line. Gaikwad, perhaps anticipating another bouncer, was late on to the shot and sliced to point. Almost to make a mockery of the sequence of bowlers, they conceded a total of nine runs, and took a wicket apiece. The five-bowlers-one-all-rounder model had worked for both Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals this season; South Africa replicated them twice in this T20I series. Karthik had to come out in the next over, and remained unbeaten on a 21-ball 30 in the end to help India reach 148/6. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, whose spell of 3-0-10-3 had set South Africa back in the Powerplay overs, was the most obvious choice. With Miller also hitting a six, the match was as good as over. South Africa were favourites, but a wicket would have brought India back into the match.

India vs South Africa: Hosts' all-out attack batting style in T20Is ... (Firstpost)

So, now with a situation where India need to win all three matches to keep the series, a little thought into the batting processes won’t be a bad thing. What the Indian Premier League has done is that is has made the batters and bowlers familiar with each other’s tendencies. Sadly, this Indian XI does not have that one grafter, and that has been to its detriment. When a side is defending just 148 runs, bowlers going at 19 runs an over, or 12.3 or 10.3 basically means that the match is out of your grasp. While it would be unfair to say that they have made a total hash of the two matches played so far, some things definitely need a second look, not least the home team’s batting approach. The immediate differences between Barabati and the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi are quite evident.

Heinrich Klaasen smashed 81 off 46 balls to lead South Africa's tricky chase as they beat India by four wickets in the second Twenty20 international.

He raised his 50 in 41 balls and took apart the Indian attack to make the target look simple with the in-form David Miller for company. Here’s a look at the reactions from India’s 4-wicket loss to South Africa in the 2nd T20i: Needing 149 for victory on a hot and humid day in Cuttack, South Africa rode Klaasen’s fourth T20 half-century to achieve their target in 18.2 overs and lead the five-match series 2-0.

The right-arm quick has bowled well in patches but hasn't been able to put up a comprehensive show with the ball. Hooda has been in the form of his life and he could provide the late impetus with the bat in the death overs. Hardik's performance with the ball has been ordinary while his batting in the first T20I was impressive. The acting skipper hasn't had a memorable first two games and ended up tasting defeats in his first two games. The Mumbaikar was the highest scorer for India in the second T20I but his struggles against pace were exposed yet again. He might have been dismissed cheaply in Cuttack but the team management might still stick with him.

While the batters need to maintain their composure on the field, the bowlers need to do the major part by defending the total. The chances of Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh making their debut are less, and India is already trailing and would not risk the debutants in a pressure game. The batters will initially want to take it easy before going big in their innings. While the first game saw Indian batters putting up a good total of 211 runs on board, at Delhi, South African batters chased it down with five balls to spare and won the game by seven wickets. Speaking of the batters, Ishan Kishan has regained his form and is playing well for the side. Bhuvneshwar Kumar started off brilliantly as he scalped three quick wickets in the powerplay to hand the visitors a major blow, but South Africa chased the target of 149 runs with 10 balls to spare.

India vs South Africa Live Cricket Score 2nd T20I: India lose wickets at regular intervals after Proteas captain Temba Bavuma opts to bowl.

Hello and welcome to the LIVE coverage of the second T20I between India and South Africa. Post the IPL razzmatazz, the focus shifted to international cricket, with Rishabh Pant making captaincy debut in KL Rahul's absence. He played just three matches for Rajasthan Royals but notched up his seventh T20 half-century, and even hit the winning boundary in his 46-ball innings. Having not lost a T20I series in India against the Men in Blue, they will be looking forward to adding another series win under their belt. India and South Africa have faced one another on 16 occasions. His thunderbolts rattled even the best of batting attacks in the IPL. But will he win rave reviews in India colours? For South Africa, Quinton de Kock remains key at the top. India are walking at the top when it comes to aggressive batting. It is going to skid through and not much for the spinners. India openers Ishan and Gaikwad also walk to the middle. Short from Kagiso Rabada... Ishan pulls it in the air but it falls short of the fielder. Just one more over to go in the powerplay. Runs have dried for India in the last five-six overs and couple of wickets have fallen too.

Indian hopes lingered after his three-wicket burst had South Africa on the knees in pursuit of a modest score of 148. But they soon went up in smoke and blended ...

The deception was devious — the ball was full, but not drivable, there was width, but not enough for Gaikwad to free his arms and drive. Patel was meted out a six and a brace of boundaries in the only over he bowled. The persistent Dwaine Pretorius put Iyer out of his misery while Nortje and Wayne Parnell strangled the home side with aggression and smarts. That barely sufficed in the end. Instead, he saw the ball cut back into him like an errant driver at a U-turn and disarray his leg-stump. But he had a large box to tick, his ability to play spin bowling in the subcontinent. He would step out and swing the left-arm wrist-spinner for a six and a four. The sluggish nature of the strip induced numerous mistimed and miscued strokes. After six overs, including the splendid Bhuvneshwar spell that read 3-0-10-3, South Africa were 29/3. That was as good as it got for the hosts in search of a series-levelling win. But the backlog of dot balls would haunt him. Indian hopes lingered after his three-wicket burst had South Africa on the knees in pursuit of a modest score of 148. Among the prospects for World Cup spots, only Ishan Kishan is presenting a sturdy case for inclusion.
