Richarlison is close to sealing a move to Tottenham, but now the striker has a hard decision to make - what number does he take from those available to him?

Richarlison wore the No. 11 momentarily for Watford but, interestingly enough, he hasn't since. He has often alternated with the number seven, but Son Heung-Min houses that strip. With the easy decision already made, the Brazilian has the hardest of all left before donning the Lilywhite strip. Gareth Bale donned the nine amid his short-lived return to White Hart Lane on loan but it's yet to have been grabbed since. The 25-year-old is expected to undergo a medical abroad on Thursday after Spurs agreed a £60million fee with Everton for the striker's signature, football.london understand. football.london understand that the transfer could be completed on Thursday and announced soon after.

Richarlison is an elegant solution to Spurs’ age-old issue of not having a striker other than Kane in the squad. Fans may have to get used to the fact that players previously considered automatic starters will be on the bench for certain games. From the arrivals of Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur in January, the team pretty much picked itself over the final four months, with very few changes. He wondered why it was seen as such a big deal to have a player of Dele Alli’s quality on the bench. (For the record, the Brazilian had nine goal contributions from February 9 to the end of the season). City scored 99 Premier League goals last season on the way to retaining the title; they’ve signed Erling Haaland this summer.

Richarlison transfer proves Antonio Conte's voice has been heard ... (Football.London)

The imminent signing of Richarlison as a Tottenham Hotspur player is perhaps the most telling evidence yet that Antonio Conte is being heard very clearly in ...

The vision was the same in the past, the vision is the same in the present, the vision will be the same in future. Conte is being listened to and that's usually when the trophy-laden Italian produces his best work. Things are changing at Spurs and Conte is at the centre of it. That Lenglet would likely be a loan, albeit with an option to buy, also allows Tottenham to look again at Gvardiol and Bastoni's situation in addition in future windows if the door is firmly closed on them in this one. Another key facet of the Richarlison deal is that Tottenham have spent £60million all in on a player who would not normally be considered a guaranteed starter. However, a season spent mainly on the bench in the Catalan capital looks to have changed that stance. Those who have watched him closely say Lenglet has excellent technique with an educated left foot and while he may lack some pace he has plenty of experience under his belt at the highest level. Conte wanted Tottenham to understand the big club mentality he was used to elsewhere during his career, that there was no sense of a set starting XI and instead a strong squad with similar level players battling it out for every position. Therefore it's no surprise that the ages of Tottenham's first four signings of this window, in order of arrival, are 33, 34, 25 and 25. Having the cushion of the £150million cash injection from owners ENIC this time gave Paratici the cushion to line up deals before players had been sold. That was brought into light in the final weeks of the season when Conte had to name four academy youngsters on the bench for Premier League matches despite having only four or five injuries to his first team players. Conte made it clear that if the club wanted to seriously challenge for bigger things then they would need to buy "important players", ready-made performers rather than simply prospects.

Why Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison and Raphinha are such hot properties (The Guardian)

Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea have targeted Brazilian forwards this summer. All three deals make good sense.

Raphinha performed superbly for Leeds last season, earning a call-up to the Brazil team and scoring his first goals for his country. On top of that, Raphinha is a hard worker off the ball. The positive here is that Jesus is an immediate upgrade on Lacazette. He will start as the No 9 in Arteta’s preferred 4-2-3-1 setup, but he also has experience of playing out wide for City. The 25-year-old should excel in Arsenal’s fluid, vibrant attack. By avoiding relegation, Leeds have been able to command a hefty fee for the Brazilian winger, who was directly involved in 14 of their 42 league goals (33%) last season. Richarlison is an upgrade on the current reserve options – Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn – and, with Spurs back in the Champions League, Conte needs a bigger squad to push for silverware. Arsenal were linked with poachers such as Victor Osimhen and Gianluca Scamacca, but the move for Jesus shows that Arteta wanted a striker who can link up well with teammates and create chances for other players.

What Richarlison transfer means for Tottenham's homegrown ... (Football.London)

The Brazilian is joining Antonio Conte's Tottenham Hotspur squad this summer but his arrival will have an impact on the club's player limits.

With Doherty, Davies, Rodon, Gil and Sarr on the non-homegrown player list for the Champions League, as well as the addition of Richarlison, Perisic and Bissouma, Spurs are at a total of 22 in that section and five over the limit of 17. In UEFA competition, clubs also submit a B list for those born on or after the 1st January 2001 and registered at the club for an uninterrupted period of two seasons. Matt Doherty, Ben Davies and Rodon do not qualify as homegrown in European competition for this reason. Sessegnon and Skipp, like Kulusevski, can no longer be named as U21 players because they were born before January 1, 2001. Pierluigi Gollini has returned to Atalanta following his loan spell, but Richarlison, Perisic and Bissouma will take up three spots and the returning Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso are included again for the time being following their respective loan spells. Pape Matar Sarr and Bryan Gil can still be included as U21 players, however.

Richarlison may not make Tottenham's best XI right now but the former Everton ace could be a great signing and do wonders for Harry Kane especially.

In other words, Richarlison will be a squad player. Yet that is exactly what Richarlison will do, initially at least. Kane leapfrogged Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor to become Tottenham's lead frontman aged 21. Until now, Spurs have been toothless when Kane has been injured and compelled to keep playing him when he has been tired (which in turn makes him more susceptible to injury). Richarlison's preference is to play as a central striker. That is where he ended his Everton career and where he has played for Brazil in recent games.

The 54-year-old went on to give his assessment of where Spurs are at now and what their aim for next season should be. The trio became a dangerous attack for many opposing Premier League sides last season and it will be difficult to replace them in the regular XI. Richarlison can play across the front three and will allow the Italian to make rotations in his attacking trio, which will be needed next season, with the busy fixure schedule Spurs have.
