Alfa Romeo driver Zhou Guanyu was protected by the "halo" of his car at the British Grand Prix when Zhou's car flipped and skidded along the track.

"Further updates will be given in due course." Zhou's car flipped immediately after that initial contact and skidded for several hundred feet across the track and then the gravel trap before its momentum sent it hurtling over the tire barrier and into a space between the barrier and the fence. During the first lap Sunday at the British Grand Prix, Chinese Formula One driver Zhou Guanyu was involved in an intense crash that flipped his car and sent it skidding across the pavement before it flipped into a barrier against a fence.

Verstappen is dating Piquet’s daughter, Kelly, and faced criticism from fans when he said Piquet was not a racist despite using “very offensive” language. F1 said they were being “dealt with by the local authorities.” “I gave it everything," said Hamilton, who was third in Canada two weeks ago and hoped Mercedes is on a comeback. Zhou’s car flipped upside-down and cleared a tire barrier before smashing into a fence. But a safety car came out and Ferrari brought Sainz into the pits for fresher, grippier soft tires. It began with a frightening first-lap crash and ended with intense wheel-to-wheel battles for the podium positions.

Sainz earns maiden Formula 1 win at the Silverstone Circuit (Carmag South Africa)

First corner mayhem brought out a red flag at the Silverstone Circuit where Zhou went barreling into the barriers in a frightening accident.

The rookie and son of 7-time world champion Michael has now managed to score his first career points after fighting the Dutchman to the chequered flag and teammate Magnussen enabled Haas to celebrate a double points finish. It was the adverse for current championship leader and reigning world champion Max Verstappen who suffered floor damage after riding the curbs and only managed to stave Mick Schumacher off for 7th position after some expectedly abysmal pace. With a red flag immediately waved before the pack had completed the first sector and the carnage had finally come to a rest, it was Zhou, Albon and Russell who retired from damage.

Formula 1 British Grand Prix: How to Watch the Race Live Today (CNET)

Will Superstar Lewis Hamilton score his first win of the season on his home track? We'll have to tune in to see.

Sling TV's $35 Orange plan might be a good choice for F1 fans who are primarily looking to just watch the races on Sundays. This plan is one of the cheapest ways to get access to ESPN and ESPN 2. Users will still be able to view all F1 onboard cameras, along with full replays of F1, F2, F3 and Porsche Supercup. It also includes the historic race archive. Hulu Plus Live TV is a little more expensive than YouTube TV, but it also offers all the channels you need to watch every second of race weekend. Teams need both strategy and skill to compete against some of the best minds in motorsports. The base package lacks ESPNews, but you can add it for an extra $8 a month with the Fubo Extra Package or pay for the $80-a-month Elite streaming tier that includes Fubo Extra. Check out which local networks FuboTV offers here. The length of the races also varies, with some, like the Indianapolis 500, lasting 500 laps and taking over three hours to complete. Teams can field more than two cars, meaning that the amount of drivers on the grid fluctuates from race to race. Each driver needs to use two different tires in the race, so a pit stop is mandatory, though cars are not allowed to refuel. In contrast, the cars featured in IndyCar are more standardized. The entire race weekend, including practice sessions and qualifying, will be shown in the US on ESPN's family of television networks. We've broken down everything you need to know in order to stream F1 races this season. The British racing megastar qualified in fifth Saturday and currently sits in sixth place in the Drivers' Championship standings.

F1 British Grand Prix: Carlos Sainz leads after race delayed by crash ... (The Guardian)

Join Alex Hess for updates from Silverstone, where the race is restarting an hour late after a major crash on turn one.

And Bernie Eccleston says he would “take a bullet” for Putin, that the war in Ukraine is “unintentional” and that Hamilton could have “brushed aside” Piquet’s remarks. And the drivers head off for the formation lap. Among the spectators at Silverstone is Tom Cruise. I’m sure he’d agree that there are a few good men on the grid today but Verstappen – a driver without limits – is far and away the favourite. Lap 1/52: We’re under way – and the cars have barely left the grid before we see a huge crash. An official statement has said: “The FIA advises that following the start of the race, emergency crews were immediately in attendance and the drivers of Car 23 (Albon) and Car 24 (Zhou) have been taken to the medical centre. Controversially, it looks like the drivers will restart in grid order, which puts Verstappen – who had moved past Sainz in the early moments – back to second and Hamilton, who was third when the red flag came out, back to fifth. Lap 1/52: Albon is also out, while Tsunoda and Ocon look to have damage. Lap 6/52: Leclerc is doing his best to hunt down Verstappen, the gap between them a tight half a second. These people were immediately removed and the matter is now being dealt with by the local authorities.” Lap 14/52: And it looks like the issue with Verstappen’s car hasn’t been entirely fixed. Verstappen trundles into the pits and emerges in sixth. Lap 17/52: So then, we have the two Ferrari drivers in first and second, with Leclerc not happy about being stuck behind his teammate.

The omens weren’t great for Schumacher, starting 16th at a track Haas never looked that competitive at in all conditions this weekend. There will not be many more open goals like this, and Leclerc knows it. – JS We were premature, it turns out. Points on the board, Ferrari failing to capitalise with Leclerc, Perez having proven second-best to Verstappen all weekend. What the teams said – Race day at the 2022 British Grand Prix ... (Formula 1 RSS UK)

The drivers and teams report back on all the action from Silverstone, for the Formula 1 British Grand Prix 2022...

The cars were fast, the guys did a good job, the pit-stops were good, so what we need to do now is a very good qualifying and a very good race and then we’re back in the game.” Luckily, I only damaged my front wing and was able to get back to the pits with the red flag and continue to race with the restart. "We lost a little bit of time in the pit stop, and then I was chasing, and chasing, and chasing, but the pace was great on both sets of tyres and then at the end there it was just a little bit difficult. I had a really great run on the second restart and could see the fans cheering for me in the stands, which was awesome to see. In addition, he experienced a DRS failure that required an additional pit-stop mid race and required him to run without the DRS in the second half of the race. Lewis on the other had a great start moving to 3rd so it was a shame that he was put back into fifth for the restart from where we dropped a further position. On the other hand, we can be pleased that we were fighting at the front after a very tough start to our season and a lot of hard work from everyone in Brackley and Brixworth to recover a huge performance gap. I asked the marshals to leave the car and next thing, when I got back, the car was on the back of the flatbed which meant I couldn’t restart. This year is going to be a pretty tough one to win but we just need to get our house in order to be properly on top of the car’s performance. It was unfortunate because I think it would have been a fantastic race for him today, but every point counts and he fought as hard for P7 as he would for the win. "The car was a handful to drive, I tried to find a good aero balance but it was difficult. “To get back to winning, especially at such a demanding track as Silverstone, is particularly pleasing and confirms that we have worked well this season, both at the track and back in Maranello. Carlos had a great weekend, in which he also secured his first pole position.

Three Takeaways From British GP as Carlos Sainz Captures ... (Sports Illustrated)

Fans at Silverstone watched the Ferrari driver hold onto his victory as a three-way battle ensued behind him late in the incident-packed grand prix.

And there’s no doubt we had the pace to come back to P6 today.” After barrel-rolling over the barrier, Zhou was stuck between the metal fence and tire barriers, a narrow gap with nowhere to go. The rookie and Williams driver Alex Albon, who was involved in a separate wreck, were both sent to the medical care center. “I don’t want the focus to be pointed towards my disappointing race but more towards his incredible race win and obviously a first win in Formula 1 is always extremely special. Pierre Gasly was between Russell and Zhou, but as the gap started to disappear, the AlphaTauri driver pulled back. Sainz was brought in for softs, and Leclerc commented over the radio how it would be “hard” to chase cars on soft tires in the closing stages. Binotto felt that the team’s strategy calls were “the right and proper ones at each single time,” and the only possible miscue was Leclerc staying out. “I’ve always been a team player, I will always be a team player and especially in Ferrari, I know the team is in front of me and my personal interests. “I gave myself the best chance to stay ahead, by pushing as much as I could, but to a point that I was destroying so much my front tire that it made total sense for Charles to go through, and I let him by as soon as the team told me to do so,” Sainz said. “Then we were hoping for more tire degradation on the softs, to give Charles, yeah, maybe a difficult three or four laps initially but then recovering later on, but the soft didn’t degrade as we were hoping.” Leclerc, who was the race leader, remained out on his hard tires—the only driver to still have them on when the rest of the field emerged. “I needed to stay in the race like I was trying to and then all of a sudden the safety car gave me the opportunity to get back on it.

Formula 1: Kyalami added to 2023 provisional Grand Prix calendar (Citizen)

Formula 1's return to South Africa has taken a massive boost with the provisonal inclusion of Kyalami on the 2023 calendar.

For the time being, the Miami Grand Prix, which copped little in the way of positive fan response following its debut race this year, moves to May with plans of running it after the Canadian Grand Prix as part of the sport’s decision to avoid cross-continental travelling form a logistical standpoint. Formula 1’s return to Las Vegas for the first time since 1984 will take place on 18 November with Bahrain confirmed as the season opener on 5 March. According to the paper, Kyalami’s inclusion comes at the cost of the provisional exclusion of the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps and the much-criticised French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard.

Formula One driver Zhou Guanyu said the halo cockpit saved his life after a horrific crash during the British Grand Prix.

F1 originally intended to introduce halo cockpits to the sport in 2017, but the plan was delayed, citing the “relatively short timeframe” to implement the requirement. Since F1 is considered the the most prestigious racing series, many have looked to it to lead the way in this area, and in some ways it has. The concept leaked in 2015, following the death of IndyCar driver Justin Wilson during a race when his head was struck by debris.

F1 British Grand Prix: What is halo and how does it save lives? (BBC News)

Driver Zhou Guanyu says the halo device saved his life after a horror crash at Silverstone on Sunday.

"The other argument was whether it was affecting the driver's visibility, looking out of the cockpit. He says he is the latest in a series of drivers to be saved by the halo safety device. But it quickly proved its worth when it was introduced in 2018, following a campaign by the late FIA F1 director Charlie Whiting and the Grand Prix Drivers' Association. But a few years later Hamilton said it had saved his life in his crash at the Italian Grand Prix in 2021. After years of research it was found to be the only device that successfully passed the test of deflecting a wheel fired at it at 150mph. Halo is a wishbone-shaped titanium bar that sits on top of the cockpit of the car and wraps around the driver's head.
