Only Lewis Hamilton – who finished third Sunday for Mercedes behind Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Red Bull’s Sergio Pérez – has won as many driver’s titles as the elder Schumacher. But on Sunday, Schumacher finished two places ahead of Magnussen, after a race that saw early retirements from six drivers, most of whom were caught up in a crash at the start. “For me, I think it’s great to just get those questions from the media away and focus on what’s really important, and that’s the racing and the driving,” added Schumacher, who got a congratulatory thumbs-up gesture from Verstappen immediately after the grand prix.

The pressure is finally off as Mick Schumacher scores maiden F1 ... (News24)

Mick Schumacher scored his first points in Formula 1 and it would undoubtedly have relieved some of the pressure he's been feeling of late.

It's great for the team, a double-finish in the points, so that's obviously very helpful in the constructors. At the British GP, Schumacher and Magnussen qualified in 19th and 17th, respectively, but turned a difficult qualifying into a great race result. Everything just increased for the 23-year-old, and all the while, he is not scoring points - which can result in much-needed financial benefits for the team at the end of each season. Fortunately for Schumacher, a series of events brought everything together, and could he cross the finish line in eighth place, registering four points to his name. And when it was rumoured that Steiner wanted to axe the youngster in light of poor performances, Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto vetoed such a move. The German broke his car in Saudi Arabia and Monaco, sending the team's repair budget into overdrive.

Mick Schumacher needs time but that doesn't mean the media needs to go easy on him, says Juan Pablo Montoya.
