Arsenal are two goals down at the break and have a lot of work to do. The ball strikes the bar before ending up in the back of the net. Cross comes in from the right as Kieran Tierney fails to stop the cross. Nurnberg have been the better side so far it has to be said. Arsenal just are not at the races today. He strikes a trademark whipped shot across the goal but it is very much over the bar. Gabriel Jesus scored twice on his Arsenal debut as the Gunners came back from 2-0 down at half-time to beat Nurnberg 5-3 in a pre-season friendly on Friday ...
He was a constant thorn in the Nurnberg defence’s side during the second half. Couldn’t really get into the game after his arrival in the second half. Excellent on the ball and played a part in the fifth goal. His presence in midfield immediately settled Arsenal down after a poor first half. Scored an outrageous goal to make it 2-2 in the second half. Came on for Turner in the second half. Came alive in the second half following the arrival of Jesus and Martinelli. Linked up really well with Jesus, was unlucky not to score with his shot that hit the bar. Looked lively when he got on the ball, but that was all too rare during a poor first half from the Gunners. Sent one shot over the top just before half-time when well placed. Gave the ball away sloppily in the build up to Nurnberg’s second goal. Back in action for the first time since March. Looked understandably rusty and his error in possession led to the opening goal. Got involved in a bit of a physical battle during the first half and came off second best. It was a great strike from Johannes Geis, but it went straight down the middle of Turner’s goal.
Gabriel Jesus scores a debut brace off the bench as we secure a dramatic comeback win.
We return to the UK on Saturday morning, before jetting out to the USA on Wednesday where we will play three more friendlies. There was plenty of pace and movement on the shot, deceiving Turner in the Gunners goal. Copyright 2022 The Arsenal Football Club plc. By now we were in control, and able to enjoy the denouement to a week of hard work and preparation at the adidas HQ in Germany. And if this is a glimpse of what’s to come from Jesus in particular, then the start of the season can’t come soon enough. The other goal came from the boot of Mohamed Elneny, and what a screamer it was, flying in from long range. Jesus had to sit and watch from the bench for the opening half, alongside other new arrival Marquinhos, with Matt Turner the only one of our four summer signings named in the starting XI.
Arsenal continue their preseason schedule with a trip to Germany to take on Bundesliga side Nurnberg.
90 seconds into his Gunners career and Jesus has a debut goal!!! Some poor Arsenal marking allows Lukas Schleimer to slam home a third for Nurnberg. 15 Mins: Arsenal are slowly beginning to edge their way into the contest, despite the home side enjoying more possession, as Emile Smith-Rowe slips away from his marker and forces a save from Christian Mathenia. A poor first 45 minutes from Arsenal has been ruthlessly punished by their German hosts here at the Max-Morlock-Stadion. Poor defending played a key role in both goals and Mikel Arteta will be demanding a reaction from his players after the restart. 47 Mins: A string of changes from Arteta at the break including a club debut for Gabriel Jesus! The Brazilian's driving run from deep cut through the Nurnberg defence. An end-to-end start to the second period gives Arsenal the chance to force their way level in Germany!! Nurnberg have a goal ruled out for offside and the visitors storm up the other end to equalise. 5 A crazy pre-season afternoon in Nurnberg as Arsenal completely flip the script before the hour mark!! 5 3 3
How the Gunners got on individually in their first pre-season fixture against at the Max-Morlock Stadion.
Salah Oulad M'Hand: Enthusiastic as ever to get involved and worked hard for the team. Brought intensity to what had been a totally tepid first half display from Arsenal. Looks to already be what the Gunners needed up top. Eddie Nketiah: Thundered the underside of the bar with a strike that led to one of the Nurnberg own goals, and looked so much better with Jesus up around him. Some nice passes from deep to unpick the Nurnberg defence and good athleticism to cover his teammates. Ainsley Maitland-Niles: Looked pretty good playing the hybrid midfield/wing back goal in the second half. The Egyptian brought both intensity and composure to the midfield in equal measure and Arsenal looked better for it in the second half. Some nice moments of stepping out to win the ball back too. Gabriel: Hardly tested in the second half but looked far more equipped to deal with problem than those who came before him. Maybe a touch out of position to deal with the deep cross in the build up to Nurnberg's third. Reiss Nelson: Moved from the left wing to a hybrid right wing back role in the second half. A mixed first start, but he'll be happy with some of the saves he made. Matt Turner: Had far less to do in the second half of his debut.
