It all got a bit heated between Leclerc and Sainz in the early laps of yesterday’s race with some intense on-track battling which allowed the Dutchman to escape down the road. Lap 24: So to recap, Leclerc leads from Sainz, Verstappen and Hamilton. Leclerc did overtake Verstappen on track but then the Red Bull driver pitted for his hard tyres. Here, he'll be attempting to win his fourth Austrian GP from five attempts this afternoon which would make him the most successful driver at this event in history. Lap 10: Leclerc makes a huge dive on Verstappen at turn three but the Dutch driver just about stays infront of his championship rival for now. Lap 58: SAINZ IS OUT!!! His car is on fire and he's forced to pull over at the side of the track. Lap 55: Leclerc once again leads the Austrian Grand Prix as he overtakes Verstappen at turn three! The Mercedes man does well to defend at corner three but then the Dutchman flies past him down the straight to corner four. Sainz is almost engulfed in the flames as it quickly takes hold of his car which then starts to roll back towards the track. He has 3.6 seconds to make up on Leclerc but he could just run out of time in this race to steal the win away. It's currently a Ferrari lockout at the front in P1 and P2. The Dutch driver may just run out of laps as Leclerc struggles with throttle problems. That won't be any consolation to Perez, though, who now drops down to third in the World Drivers' Championship standings following Leclerc's victory.

Sainz was right on Verstappen’s tail but on Lap 57, the Ferrari driver slowed and pulled off the track. Verstappen tried to hit back on Lap 13, locking up into Turn 4, and soon complied with the message to box, pitting for hards at the end of the lap. I had this problem with the throttle and it would get stuck at 20 or 30% throttle in the low speed, so it was very tricky but we managed to make it stick until the end and I'm so, so happy. Ferrari are on a roll, Red Bull still however in the lead of both championships. The Dane pitted but Schumacher stayed out, the Red Bull of Verstappen in his mirrors before blasting past on the run to Turn 3 on the next tour. The reigning champion radioed to say that the car was “unpredictable” as he stared down a 1.5 second deficit to the Monegasque – aiming to protect a four-second advantage on Sainz. With Lewis Hamilton taking too much of the kerb out of Turn 1 on Lap 4, Mick Schumacher blazed past for P7 and had eyes on his Haas team mate up ahead. Ocon edged ahead but lost out to the Briton entering Turn 3 on the following lap. With Sainz right on Verstappen’s tail, the Spaniard suddenly slowed – the fire at the rear of his Ferrari signalling the end of his race. George Russell was a distant fourth having started there, the Mercedes driver losing time in his first pit stop – a five-second penalty also tacked on as he collided with Red Bull's Sergio Perez early on. Leclerc took his second stop on Lap 51 and retook the lead on Lap 53. With Sainz challenging Verstappen for P2, the Dutchman pitted again on Lap 37.
