This is the second supermoon to occur recently, with the first back in June. It’s been a week of treats for stargazers, first with Nasa sharing rare full-colour images from deep in the cosmos and now with the upcoming supermoon sighting on Wednesday.

Take a look at these moon-facts ahead of the largest and brightest supermoon of the year which will appear on Wednesday night. The term "supermoon" has only been used in the past 40 years, but it received a slew of attention in late 2016 when three supermoons occurred in a row, according to space.com. A supermoon refers to a full moon with 90% of its closest distance to earth.
