1 hour 30 mins to KO: Manchester United providing an early glimpse of the stadium. Harry Maguire starts and reclaims the captain's armband. Fair chance a completely different team will start the second half. Victory conceded a league-low 25 goals from 26 games last season in the A-League Men. The Brazilian scored a stunning chip last time out against Liverpool but this one never looked destined for goal. 34th minute: Martial beats a number of players in the final third but eventually gets overwhelmed in the box. Frustration building for the Red Devils. Not using the width well enough early on. The resulting corner is claimed easily enough by Victory's keeper. Ten Hag won't be happy with that first-half showing though with his side often too slow in the final third and looking fragile when defending Victory's counter attacks. Marcus Rashford is now donning the captain's armband for the Red Devils. 43rd minute: Goal! McTominay pulls United level via a deflected effort.

What we learned at the MCG (Manchester United)

Erik ten Hag's Manchester United secured a second win of pre-season, by beating Melbourne Victory 4-1 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, in front of around ...

Still, it shows we have plenty of options for rotation in the forward positions, with Erik commenting in his Thursday press conference that he feels Donny van de Beek could also occupy an attacking midfield – and perhaps even a false no.9 – role. The Ivorian stood out when fielded there in the Liverpool clash, as he set up Facundo Pellistri’s goal – our fourth of the game – but Marcus soon swapped with him, latching on to Eric Bailly's through ball to score our third. The signing of the 35-year-old former United winger has been headline news in Australia all week and even though he’d only travelled Down Under earlier this week and trained twice with his new team-mates, Nani – who stopped to grab a quick word with MUTV before kick-off – was named on the Victory bench. Eight of the 10 replacements had also played in Bangkok, but for Ethan Laird and Tahith Chong, it was a chance to get some minutes in the legs and time on the pitch for United after spending much of the recent time out on loan. For the second friendly in a row, Erik opted to change his entire outfield line-up at the break, with Rashford captaining a younger and more inexperienced side in the second half. The Reds were behind for much of the first half, following a shock early Victory opener, but a couple of goals before half-time from Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial put us in the driving seat.

A protracted saga followed - not of the player's doing, it must be said - and he did not depart for Inter Milan until six months later. Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy was not so sure about the move when he reacted to the news of a verbal agreement when it first broke. 'I have seen Erik's work at Ajax and know the level of detail and preparation that he and his staff put into every day. He's going to be a squad player, isn't he? United's football director John Murtough said: 'Christian has been one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe throughout his career. 'He could change a game, yes, that's fair. Eriksen said: 'Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started. It was no wonder Brentford were desperate to keep him. While the Dane will accept he may not be first-choice at United, the chance to play for one of the game's biggest clubs - likely for the last time in his career - was too good to turn down. Eriksen was cast as the villain of the piece towards the end of his time in North London after saying he wanted to leave in the summer of 2019. The 30-year-old showed he was still capable of playing at the top level, an incredible feat for someone who had suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch at Euro 2020, as he demonstrated his vision, wide array of passing and the ability to dictate from the middle of the pitch.

Match Hub and Highlights: Melbourne Victory 1 United 4 (Manchester United)

Manchester United made it two wins from two games on Tour 22, as Erik ten Hag's side came from behind to defeat Melbourne Victory by four goals to one.

Former Reds winger Nani was then introduced with just a few minutes to go, making his debut for the hosts seven years after his departure from Old Trafford. Fred's goal was the only difference when the two sides met at Old Trafford last December, and attention now turns to next week's pre-season showdown. Then, just moments before the break, the Reds went ahead. The scoring was then completed with just minutes remaining, when Edmond Lupancu diverted a Tahith Chong cross into his own net to make it 4-1, ensuring a second pre-season win for our new Dutch boss. With 15 minutes to go, United had a third, as Eric Bailly burst forward to feed Rashford. The England international nudged his effort beyond Izzo, and opened his Tour 22 account in the process. Zidane Iqbal showcased his talents with a superb piece of skill, as the Reds continued to dominate possession.

Midfield role will suit Christian Eriksen at Man United (The Peoples Person)

Christian Eriksen has signed for Manchester United and there is now the small matter of how Erik ten Hag gets him in the team.

If Ten Hag’s plan is to switch McTominay out for Eriksen, then the prospect of Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho and Christian Eriksen combining out on that flank is a tantalising one. In that system, Dele Ali pushed up from the number ten position to support Harry Kane, leaving space in front of the opposition defence for Eriksen to roam into. While De Jong, Eriksen and Fernandes together in midfield may look like too attacking a trio, as Ajax demonstrated under Ten Hag, a co-ordinated press with willing workers makes pure destroyer-type midfield players redundant. Eriksen is more than likely to get the majority of his starts playing in the same role that Lasse Schone once occupied for Erik ten Hag, only with higher quality. Throughout his career, the Dane has often played as an attacking midfielder, be it as a number ten or off either wing.
