Could We Ever See The Black Phone 2? (/FILM)

Derrickson is no stranger to starting franchises, directing films like "Sinister" and "Doctor Strange," which soon went the path of sequels, albeit without ...

There's a new idea from author Joe Hill that Derrickson was quick to praise, but for now, anything regarding a "Black Phone" sequel is still up in the air. For now all we can do is trust Scott Derrickson's creative process and see where it takes them, whether it be "The Black Phone 2" or some other endeavor in horror. Joe's very protective and personal about his material, but he came to me with the idea and I was like, 'That's how you do a sequel to Black Phone. That's terrific.'" Would a sequel to "The Black Phone" be penned entirely by long-time Derrickson partner C. Robert Cargill? An original story from the two could be the route a potential "Black Phone" sequel could take, but you shouldn't count out the author who created the concept in the first place. In the case of this story, I'm interested in the characters that we created, and I think there's a tone to the movie that is unique and can be expanded upon. The Black Phone was a big win for Universal, Blumhouse, and original horror projects in general.

The two biggest horror titles since the pandemic began are A Quiet Place: Part II ($297 million worldwide) and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It ($206 million worldwide). Other hits include Halloween Kills ($131 million worldwide) and the fifth Scream film ($140 million worldwide). The Black Phone has already outgrossed fellow Universal horror releases Old ($90 million worldwide), Candyman ($77 million worldwide), and The Forever Purge ($67 million). Produced on a reported budget between $16 million and $18 million, The Black Phone is yet another win for Universal, whose Minions: The Rise of Gru and Jurassic World Dominion are also doing gangbusters at the box office as we speak. It’s poetic justice at the box office for director Scott Derrickson and his longtime writing partner C. Robert Cargill. Their latest collaboration, the horror film The Black Phone, has passed $100 million at the global box office.

'The Black Phone' Ending, Explained: Does Finney Come Back? Is ... (Digital Mafia Talkies)

"The Black Phone," the 2021 horror/thriller, is directed by Scott Derrickson and based on a short story by Joe Hill. Derrickson says that he took instances.

The police came to know that there were two houses; in one, The Grabber used to torment the children, and in the other, he used to bury their dead bodies. Billy told him on the next call that there was a cable that was under one of the walls that he had torn loose during his stay in the basement. He tells him to fill the telephone receiver with dirt and practice a hook, which he could use on the Grabber when the time comes. The basement was soundproof, and Finney had a feeling that he wouldn’t be able to escape from there ever. The Grabber suddenly heard a phone ringing somewhere and told Finney that he would come back with a soda for him after he attended the call. He covered the section with a carpet and flushed the dirt that he took out into the pot. Billy also told him that on his door, he had put a lock that he used for his bike. He tells him that there was a dirt section on the other side of the hallway, beneath the floor itself. Bruce was kind enough to come to Finney after the match and tell him that he had almost got him. Finney was taken to a basement by the Grabber. There was just a mattress and a landline phone, with its wire cutoff. They were on the lookout for a guy suspected to be behind these kidnappings, whom the people had nicknamed “The Grabber.” Gwen had told her friend, Amy Yamada, sister of Bruce, that she had seen in her dreams that Bruce was taken by a guy in a black van who happened to carry a lot of black balloons in it. “The Black Phone,” the 2021 horror/thriller, is directed by Scott Derrickson and based on a short story by Joe Hill. Derrickson says that he took instances from his life, molded them, filtered them, and made this short story into a full-fledged feature film.

Review: The Black Phone shines with bone chilling tale (Monkeys Fighting Robots)

Scott Derrickson has returned to the horror Genre with The Black Phone, an adaptation of Joe Hill's short story. After terrifying audiences in 2012 with ...

If this sequel happens, I’m curious to see the approach because The Black Phone is an impressive new horror film. Derrickson’s direction is becoming a noticeable style, and that’s great to see as a fan of his. Fans of the Halloween series might also compare the approach to Michael Myers, who is a mysterious force. This allows a genuine feeling of concern to develop once Finney is taken. Finney and Gwen live with their moderately abusive father, and everyone seems to be coping with a recent loss. The Black Phone is an unnerving, and anxiety-inducing experience that is held together by powerful performances.

The Black Phone: Young stars give this horror the resonance it ... (Stuff.co.nz)

REVIEW: This does everything the trailer promises, just a bit better than I was expecting, thanks to the brilliance of Madeleine McGraw and Mason Thames.

On the page, The Black Phone is an unexciting idea. But then Derrickson met writer C. Robert Cargill – and the pair of them teamed up for the terrific Sinister, which did everything you could want a low-budget, bad-tempered horror movie to do. If you have seen the trailer – or just looked at the poster – then you might also have deduced that there's an old phone on the wall, in the basement in which Finney is being held. And that phone might just be some sort of hot-line to the afterlife. The Black Phone is definitely King territory. He has a home life straight out of a bad film – and he is being bullied by the usual gang of tough kids.

The Black Phone Resurrects A Golden Age Of Horror Marketing (Game Rant)

Horror movie trailers can be a bit formulaic, but one clever technique defined the previous era. Scott Derrickson's newest nightmare brings it back.

The Black Phone took notes from its predecessors in several key areas, including the clever way it chooses to sell itself. More and more big-name hits are rushing to streaming platforms and allowing audiences to enjoy them from the comfort of their home. The idea ran from early films promising that audiences jumped out of their seats to avoid an on-screen train to Lloyd Kaufman warning viewers that The Toxic Avenger was too horrific to show in ads. That simple choice is a huge part of why that simple film is the most profitable horror movie ever made. Scott Derrickson's new horror film The Black Phone is a throwback in many ways, but instead of blandly borrowing notes from older horror cinema, it revives those techniques with clever filmmaking. Movie trailers are always a hard balance to walk, enticing a potential audience into the theater without giving too much away is difficult and confusing.

'The Black Phone' and 9 Other Great Horror Movies from Blumhouse ... (Collider.com)

The horror movie genre has undergone a dramatic revival throughout the 21st century and Blumhouse Productions has played a significant part in that. After ...

Blumhouse Productions has found some of its greatest hits through its willingness to experiment with genre and concept, but even for them, Freaky was one whacky movie. In this take on the Halloween story, Michael Myers was imprisoned after his attack on Haddonfield in 1978, but he escapes captivity and returns to the small town with a vengeance. Giving horror movies the Groundhog Day treatment, Happy Death Day presented a fun and lively spin on the typical slasher flick. The ensuing high-stakes, home invasion horror has gone on to spawn an extended universe of Purge movies and captured the interest of audiences with its social commentary. Blumhouse Productions, along with some help from Carpenter himself, made the most of the legacy sequel tag, retconning the ending of the very first Halloween and ignoring the decades of lackluster sequels and spin-offs which followed it. Founded by Jason Blum and Amy Israel in 2000, Blumhouse Productions (which was Blum Israel Productions until 2002) has built up a diverse filmography.

4 New Horror Movies Released on Friday, July 15th and 'The Black ... (Bloody Disgusting)

As of July 15th, The Black Phone is now available on VOD, and it's not the only new horror movie released today. Here's the rundown!

Starring Ethan Hawke as a sadistic serial killer, The Black Phone is essentially a “spiritual sequel” to Sinister in many ways, and the film has thus far scared up over $100 million at the box office. When her boyfriend disappears with the young woman, Kath becomes obsessed with finding an explanation for their sudden breakup—but the truth is far stranger than she could have ever imagined.” “After a governor issues an executive order to arrest the children of undocumented immigrants, the newly detained youth are offered an opportunity to have their charges dropped by volunteering to provide care to the elderly. American Carnage looks to be blend “social thriller” aspects with the full-on horror mayhem of something like The Faculty, which should make for a fun blend. What is our reward as we head into the weekend, you ask? We made it to the end of the week, and our reward is waiting for us.

The Black Phone Has A Future As A Great Sleepover Movie (Cinema Blend)

You might think it's crazy, but The Black Phone is actually a rated-R horror movie that's destined to help create the next generation of horror fans.

Seeing as this is the movie that both Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill left Doctor Strange 2 to make, it’s even more fitting that these once-MCU storytellers are still thinking with blockbuster brains that know how to aim for the heart. All The Black Phone does is give the world another fine example of storytelling that identifies with young people. For a film that roots itself in horrific crimes and the voices of the dead, it’s actually a pretty cozy watch. However, since Sinister is now streaming for Peacock Premium subscribers, you can always use that movie as a theoretical test drive to see if The Black Phone is right for your kids. If anything, the strongest factor about The Black Phone’s total package is that it’s a grounded, supernatural horror film. Younger audiences will get a kick out of The Black Phone showing actors roughly their age using R-rated language, and to the proper comedic effect.

How The Black Phone Was Inspired By The Director's Real-Life ... (Looper)

While "The Black Phone" is inspired by the Joe Hill story of the same name, director Scott Derrickson also used his childhood as inspiration for the film.

"The answer came after a couple years of therapy, dealing with my own childhood and really the violence in my childhood, and some of the traumatic events in my childhood." When "The Black Phone" starring Ethan Hawke was officially released on-demand in 2022, Universal Pictures teased the occasion with a nightmare that's based on a true story has been "home" with him for decades. According to Derrickson, it was through these unorthodox themes that he was able to use his real-life experiences while growing up in North Denver as inspiration for the movie.

Doctor Strange is a great standalone film in the MCU. It does an excellent job of introducing audiences to the character, who has made appearances in multiple Marvel movies over the years. An adaptation of a short story by Joe Hill, the film is a welcome return to horror for Derrickson after his MCU excursion. The best-reviewed film of Derrickson's career, Doctor Strange, is an introduction for the Sorcerer Supreme into the expansive Marvel universe. The first film from Derrickson to achieve a theatrical release, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, is loosely based on an actual murder trial. While Inferno was dismissed by most mainstream critics, within horror circles, it is regarded as one of the better Hellraiser sequels, a franchise that has waned since the release of the original cult classic. Ironically another established horror director, Sam Raimi, was hired to helm Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness instead.
