Wolfgat, not too far from Cape Town, and La Colombe, in the city, previously ranked in the list of 50 to 100 in the same awards.

Fyn was among the fine-dining restaurants that offered high-end takeaways while pandemic restrictions closed sit-down restaurants. Fyn was started by Peter Tempelhoff in 2018, after 11 years as executive chef at Cape Town’s Greenhouse restaurant. The fine-dining Fyn restaurant in Parliament Street, Cape Town, has been ranked the 37th best on the planet, in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list – which features two more Cape restaurants in the top 100.

Some past No. 1 winners, including Jean Roca of El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain, popped in throughout the ceremony to present awards. Last year, Noma won the No. 1 spot. At Geranium, the specialty is seasonal Scandi food, served on the 8th floor of a football stadium with views of the park.

“We are thrilled to be ranked among the world’s best. The World Bests unveiled their 51-100 best restaurants list two weeks ago. The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 named Geranium in Copenhagen, Denmark, as the best restaurant in the world.

They announced that they were moving the awards from their original location in Moscowto London. Russian restaurants were notably absent from this year's list. The rankings were announced on Monday at an awards show hosted by Stanley Tucci in London.
