Minnesota 4-0 Everton: Dele Alli's woeful miss summed up Toffees ... (GiveMeSport)

Video shows Dele Alli miss an absolute sitter for Everton last night and rival fans are loving it.

Whether he couldn’t sort his feet out in time or was just being lackadaisical, we aren’t sure. The ball slips through the grasp of the keeper and the nearest defender but Alli seemingly tries to tap it home with outside of his right foot, only to send it wide of the post. All in all, it was a disastrous night of preparations for the Merseyside club and Lampard’s got his work cut out to get them into shape ahead of the new campaign.

How will Frank Lampard cope with Everton ambitions beyond mere ... (Football365.com)

Frank Lampard has had a stop-start managerial career and Everton have a stop-start managerial history. Will they benefit from this long summer?

With less than two-and-a-half weeks to go before the start of the new Premier League season, this was not a sign that much has improved. No team is going to get very far without “a great work ethic and energy” while mentioning that “we’ve made some adjustments in the analysis, sports science and medical departments” may make cynics wonder how much attention was being given to them before. The names of Usmanov’s companies were taken down from the hoardings at Goodison Park and plans for the club’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock had to be re-evaluated and refinanced. And there were mitigating circumstances surrounding his arrival at Everton. There was little opportunity to strengthen a dysfunctional squad which had in previous years come to resemble the financial mess that was going on behind the scenes at the club. But when Russian tanks rolled over the border into Ukraine in February, the writing was on the wall for that source of ready income. The suspicion remains that he is the Little Lord Fauntleroy of the Premier League, parachuted into several prestigious positions on the basis of his name and his reputation as a player rather than anything he’d done during his brief and not especially successful managerial career.

After a disappointing pre-season tour in the United States, the Toffees will head back to England where they have a couple of more friendlies lined up. A point-blank miss from Dele Alli perfectly summed up the day for Everton as they were hammered 4-0 by Minnesota United in the final game of their United States tour. The midfielder got the best opportunity of the night for the Blues after Mason Holgate drilled in a low cross inside the six-yard box across the face of the goal.

Frank Lampard says his players each put in a 'very poor performance' as Everton lost to MLS outfit Minnesota in a pre-season friendly.

It seems Lampard is fuming with his players for putting in such a dire display after training so hard in recent weeks. The lads have trained well and trained hard out here but that performance should give them a lot to think about on the plane home. For me, that starts on day one of pre-season and ends at the end of the season. “Also, through the team, there are things I want to strengthen. When you think of where we were last year, we have lost a big player in Richarlison. But he somehow managed to miss the target.

Also, through the team, there are things I want to strengthen, and I can be honest about that, because a club like Everton has to have a competitive squad.” As memories of Howard’s time at the Blues and Donovan’s fleeting loan spells fade into the past, just how many soccer enthusiasts in the land of the free are going to pick them going forward? Indeed, Men in Blazers , the same podcast who held a sell-out live event with Lampard, Anthony Gordon and Jordan Pickford at Washington DC’s historic Howard Theatre last week, hosted by Scouser and lifelong Blue Roger Bennett, even tweeted “Everton in danger of becoming the first team in league history to be relegated from MLS” as the club were on their way to their heaviest loss on US soil since Czech champions Dukla Prague smashed them 7-2 in the first leg of the International Soccer League final back in 1961, a gruelling eight-match competition that saw Harry Catterick’s side make four transatlantic flights. We consistently get told that results ‘don’t matter’ in pre-season matches and the primary focus remains on fitness at this stage, after all winning the Florida Cup last year proved a preamble to what turned out to be a season that produced the joint lowest equivalent points total in the club’s history.

Their statement continued: "The Campaign calls on as many Evertonians as possible to demonstrate their concern over the running of the football club under Farhad Moshiri and his board. There is a "void" in areas of the squad, as the manager described it - and hard work in the transfer market is the only way that's going to be filled over the coming weeks. They called on any fans in attendance to protest in a respectful manner, and again made their points to the owner clear. Moshiri asked to be judged at the end of the transfer window in his most recent statement to supporters, which strikes as a fair assessment. At the current stage, especially after Wednesday's worrying loss, it seems that positivity has ground to a halt in a lot of areas. Everton take on Blackpool in their next pre-season fixture on Sunday, but that might not be what takes a lot of the limelight.

He should have had an assist after a cross narrowly evaded Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alex Iwobi, won two free kicks in dangerous areas and saw a shot blocked as it was seemingly about to beat the keeper. Asked what his ambitions for the new season were, he said: "Just to be much better than last year. That includes providing inspiration and guidance to the batch of talented academy prospects attempting to follow in his footsteps.

Everton manager Frank Lampard might look at a deal for Nicolas Pepe if he's available to sign on loan, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

He did score a crucial goal in a key victory over Wolves and claim an assist on the final-day, but it was another campaign to forget in what’s quickly becoming a nightmare career in English football. In three seasons in the top-flight, the Ivorian has scored just 16 goals and laid on nine assists, with his lack of consistency leading him to struggle to start regularly. The winger made the switch to England from Lille for a club record fee back in 2019, but Pepe has failed to live up to expectations at the Emirates.
