British MotoGP, Silverstone Circuit - Race Results (crash.net)

Race results from the British MotoGP at Silverstone, round 12 (of 20) in the 2022 world championship.

Rins, the 2019 Silverstone winner, was unable to break clear and his decline all the way down to seventh place began when he lost the lead to Bagnaia with nine laps to go. Alex Rins passed Jack Miller for the lead shortly after Zarco's downfall, with Francesco Bagnaia up to third and Quartararo - after briefly moving to fourth when Zarco fell - was demoted back to fifth when he was passed along the Hangar straight by Jorge Martin. In front of 41,000 fans, pole man Johann Zarco took the holeshot with Quartararo muscling his way up to second ahead of Jack Miller, Francesco Bagnaia, Alex Rins and Maverick Vinales with Aleix Espargaro in seventh.

Bagnaia continues his fightback with an epic British GP win (motogp.com)

The Ducati rider boosts his title hopes by fending off late pressure from Viñales in a Silverstone classic.

Martin therefore finished fifth and Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) came from Row 5 on the grid to claim sixth at the chequered flag, while Rins faded to seventh in the end. It would be Bastianini who finished fourth when he prised the position from ‘The Martinator’ – his rival for the factory team seat in 2023 – on the final lap at Brooklands. Still, just 0.3 seconds separated first and second at the start of the 20th and final lap, but when Viñales was wide through Stowe and Vale also, Bagnaia had the breathing space he needed to clinch a 0.426-second victory. In the Championship standings, Quartararo is now 22 points up on Aleix Espargaro, but Bagnaia has closed to 49 points off top spot. Meanwhile, Viñales and Martin had been chopping and changing in the battle for fourth position until the former completed a decisive move on Lap 16 at Village. He wasted no time dealing with Rins, however, overtaking the Suzuki for third place exactly a lap later. The Spaniard went down the inside of Miller at Copse at the start of Lap 8 but ran wide on exit and had to get back into file behind the Ducati Lenovo Team entry. Village was proving a popular location for ‘Top Gun’, who passed Miller for second there on Lap 18, at which point he faced a 0.6-second deficit to Bagnaia. On Lap 19, he made yet another attempt at an overtake at Village, but this time could not make the move stick. Zarco had a great shot at finally clinching a maiden MotoGP™ race win, but disaster struck when he folded the front and crashed at Vale on Lap 5. Zarco had grabbed the holeshot from pole position and Quartararo made it a French one-two when he jumped well from Row 2, as the factory Ducati duo of Miller and Bagnaia took up third and fourth respectively. Bagnaia became the new race leader on Lap 12 at Stowe and Miller made it a factory Ducati top two when he got underneath Rins at Village on Lap 14. Viñales, though, was into the top five when he overtook Quartararo on the Hangar Straight on Lap 9. Pole-sitter Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing), however, was one of two retirements after he crashed while leading.

MotoGP World Championship Race Results From Silverstone ... (RoadracingWorld.com)

Off the line, polesitter Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) got the holeshot as he headed Quartararo early on, with the factory Ducati duo of Miller and Bagnaia ...

With nine to go, Lopez’s lead was up to 0.8s. That was up to a second by the end of the lap as Fernandez moved up to P2 ahead of Canet, as Arenas then crashed at Turn 4. I never won at this track, last year I was third and on the last lap I gave my best, like Jorge Lorenzo por fuera! After a dramatic few laps of Silverstone there has been a serious shift in the lightweight class standings, with Dennis Foggia (Leopard Racing) emerging victorious from the drama as both Championship leader Sergio Garcia (Gaviota GASGAS Aspar Team) and closest challenger and teammate Izan Guevara crashed, separately, through no fault of their own. The conditions changed a little bit with these temperatures, and we had to read the race lap-by-lap, and also the pace. With seven to go, both Canet and Ogura had a scare heading into Turn 13 and half a lap later, Dixon was past the pair of them. Canet and Dixon exchanged P3, Ogura made slight contact with Canet’s rear wheel and it was as close as it gets between Lopez and Fernandez at the front, too. Fernandez set the fastest lap of the race on Lap 13 and was hunting down Lopez. With four to go, the gap was nothing as Dixon, Ogura and Canet battled away for the final podium spot behind them. The Spaniard went down the inside of Miller at Copse at the start of Lap 8 but ran wide on exit and had to get back into file behind the Ducati Lenovo Team rider. World Championship leader Celestino Vietti (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) didn’t get the start he would have wanted from the second row and was outside the top six. I tried the hard rear and I found a better feeling, but I was still missing something that we found for the race. Meanwhile, Viñales and Martin had been chopping and changing in the battle for fourth position until the former completed a decisive move on Lap 16 at Village. He wasted no time dealing with Rins, however, overtaking the Suzuki for third place exactly a lap later. Off the line, polesitter Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) got the holeshot as he headed Quartararo early on, with the factory Ducati duo of Miller and Bagnaia taking up third and fourth respectively.

MotoGP: "It was our mistake, we used the medium because we didn't try the hard. The Yamaha is missing top speed, acceleration and rear grip "

He has a lot of experience, moreover Ducati has more bikes on the track than us and this involves a greater comparison of data. The chicane of the long lap penalty? Then we will have Japan and Thailand, where we did not race last year, but the situation will be the same there too ”. We didn’t try the hard rear tyre, so we made the mistake of not trying the hard rear tyre. We didn’t try the hard tyre and this condition was super important to use this tyre. However, I don't know the method of our opponents ”.

MotoGP, Rigamonti: Zarco is timid: I have to push him to take a risk ... (GPone English)

MotoGP: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH CREW CHIEF: "Like Stoner he rides with the rear. He's timid and doesn't ask for modifications because he adapts a lot, ...

But I saw that other riders came in stronger and I told him to try because we couldn't do more, he had to be the one to make the difference. At the second race, in Australia, there was a problem that had affected that race weekend and a bit throughout the whole season: before Superpole the gear lever had broken, so he started 16th. He knows that if he puts in a harder spring he brakes harder but the wheel in front of him locks up, it's a matter of feeling, he stays focused on certain aspects and reports other information, so I always try to avoid that ”. He was not the rider they had told me about, the one who threw a moped against the hospitality, he was another person. He entered the track, he crashed in that corner and when he returned to the pits he told me: 'I told you I was at the limit'. This episode demonstrates that he is a rider who always tries to put in his own. “I never tell him what I have done on the bike, I just tell him I made a change in front or behind. To try to find grip or improve the feeling in front. The search for the set-up automatically moves to the rear ". “At Ducati we call him the traction king, he knows how to use the rear tire very well, he always finds a lot of grip. Seeing what he is like in life, instead of taking a longer step, he takes a shorter one. Today Johann, third in the world championship and best Ducati rider, will start from pole and has promised a backflip "even if I am no longer trained to do so". Then there was the unfortunate move to KTM - Honda wanted him, his manager almost forced him to Mattighofen - the brief experience with Cecchinello's RC213V and finally the move to Ducati in 2020 thanks to the direct involvement of Gigi Dall'Igna.

British Grand Prix MotoGP 2022 rider ratings - The Race (The Race)

The ratings are in: Simon Patterson ranks the MotoGP field on their return from the summer break for the British GP at Silverstone.

Yet, he went and stuffed it up with a completely unforced error that he can’t blame anyone but himself for – one which means the forlorn search for victory continues. Knocked back on the grid for touring, Bradl then had a long lap penalty for shortcutting Turn 4 – and then somehow also managed to overtake Dovizioso under a yellow flag after Johann Zarco crashed out, ending any hopes he had of even trying to be competitive. It’s hard to pin the blame on the bike any more, now that finally fully fit team-mate Gardner is finding a way to make it work. One benefit of being a MotoGP rookie is that occasionally you can take a gamble, which is exactly what Di Giannantonio did on Sunday with Michelin’s hard rear tyre. Not a great result by any measure for Marquez, it’s nonetheless maybe not an unexpected one given the oft-repeated difficulties of the Honda. But he still came home as the last of their full-time riders, which is never a place you want to find yourself. He looked really fast on race pace before the lights went out, but wasn’t quite able to deliver it on Sunday. Still, it’s more points in the bag at least as he consolidates his status as top rookie. Honestly the best part of Dovizioso’s weekend may well have come on Thursday when he confirmed that the pain will end soon, in two races’ time at the San Marino Grand Prix, with his retirement. It’s an utter mystery why Quartararo and his team went all weekend without trying out the Sunday choice of the hard rear Michelin, but the lack of experience did far more damage to his result than the long lap penalty he had to serve. Not the worst day imaginable for Nakagami, whose result meant that he was the top Honda even at the culmination of a tough weekend for the Japanese brand. However, it never quite came as he faded back again in the closing laps for an altogether rather lacklustre final result. All the more unexpected considering Martin took one of his wings off in the early corners, it was an emphatic ride with a strong late charge out of nowhere, and on a fully functioning bike could have ended up even stronger. Vinales made it interesting in the final laps for Bagnaia too, but he kept his cool and it showed in the way he was able to defend his position.
