DStv Premiership Report: SuperSport United v Chippa United 07 ... (Soccer Laduma)

Daine Klate began his reign at Chippa United with a 1-1 draw against away to SuperSport United in their opening clash of the DStv Premiership season.

Chippa after the arrival of Justice Chabalala improved defensively as they denied Matsatsantsa frequent chances but Margeman came close to snatching the winner for the hosts in the last ten minutes with a rocket from range that missed the top corner by inches. SuperSport went on an all-out attack thereafter as they created clear chances but Grobler and Rayners spurned good opportunities after the former guided a free header in the box over the crossbar and the latter ballooned an effort over the top unmarked at the back post. Matsatsantsa created opportunities in the final third as they looked to get back into the game but the likes of Rayners and Bradley Grobler were not clinical in front of goal.

This would have resulted in a yellow card for Pfumbidzai, but Goss' frustration imploded any form of common sense in his head, causing him to punch the former in his face. Goss had made a key save in the 91st minute from a corner when the incident occurred. Pfumbidzai, a Zimbabwean international, put the Chilli Boys into a 17th-minute lead, before Bradley Grobbelaar levelled matters in the 63rd minute.

SuperSport fight back to salvage a share of the spoils with Chippa (Independent Online)

SuperSport United fought back gallantly to force a 1-1 draw during their Premiership clash with Chippa United at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.

Moments later the Grobler-Rayners combination struck to set up the equaliser. Just past the half-hour mark, Chippa was close with another set-piece from an identical position. SuperSport central defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe was blown up for a foul, and Chippa striker Siphelele Luthuli floated in a free-kick from 35m out into the opposition penalty box. His parting shot bounced off the upright, and Chippa’s defence cleared to avert further danger. A few minutes later, hosts SuperSport came within a whisker of equalising, but their effort was undone by the crossbar. Straight from the kick-off, referee Thokozani Mkhize was called into action frequently because of fouls.

Ambitious Klate wants to win league with Chippa (Citizen)

You will be forgiven for thinking Daine Klate is being crazy for thinking that he will guide Chippa United to DStv Premiership glory.

All we need to do is to be better than last season, whether we win a trophy or not, but it must be better than last season. If you ask me where I want to end up at the end of the season, I will tell you that I want to be number one, that’s my mentality,” said Klate. “I want to win the league, that’s where I want to end up.
