I Am Groot: Season 1 Review - IGN (IGN)

All five I Am Groot shorts premiere Wednesday, Aug. 10 on Disney+. I Am Groot, from Kirsten Lepore (Adventure Time's stop-motion "Bad Jubies" episode), ...

Sure, he learns and grows but there's always a fundamental temperamental quality resting underneath that opens these episodes up a bit, allowing for a bit of the unexpected. Vin Diesel reprises his voice work here (along with one other Guardians actor, in one episode) for the most ridiculous and rambunctious version of Groot yet. These fun, mischievous morsels are adorable as an animated offshoot of the MCU but also contain a quirky dark humor thanks to Groot's own temper and penchant for getting punchy.

I Am Groot review: delightfully inconsequential animated shorts (The Verge)

I Am Groot is a series of five animated shorts on Disney Plus, which start streaming on August 10th and add a very welcome lighthearted tone to the Marvel ...

I Am Groot isn’t the kind of series to make you sign up for a new streaming service. But hopefully at least a few will be as delightfully inessential as watching Groot relax in a hot tub. That’s basically as long as a post-credits scene in the MCU. There’s a scene where he surfs on a bar of soap. Groot’s presence now often exists as a series of animated shorts that are tangentially related to the Guardians of the Galaxy movie he happens to be in. The big streaming series from Marvel and Star Wars take all the headlines, but since its debut, Disney Plus has also slowly become a service stuffed with animated shorts.

I Am Groot cast: Are any of the Guardians of the Galaxy in I Am Groot? (Bam! Smack! Pow!)

There have been a lot of firsts for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent years, which seems crazy for a franchise that has been around as long as the MCU.

In “Magnum Opus,” Baby Groot sets out to paint a portrait of himself and the Guardians and goes to great lengths to collect his art supplies. Leading the I Am Groot cast is Vin Diesel, who once again returns to voice Baby Groot in the series as the show’s lead star. While Groot is the star of the series, he is a Guardian so do any of his fellow Guardians pop up across the series?

I Am Groot Review (Game Rant)

It's a short trip, but the collection of I Am Groot shorts is a pure delight. I Am Groot Marvel Studios Disney Plus.

Even still, it's fun to see Baby Groot again before revisiting the character, who may or may not be back to his fully grown form, in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and when Guardians of the Galaxy vol. Overall, despite the very quick runtime of all the shorts put together, I Am Groot is a lot of fun, and definitely worth the watch for any Marvel fan, or even just fans of animated shorts in general. This includes the use of lighting in one short that takes place mostly during the night (although in space it's hard to tell aside from the fact that Groot is wearing pajamas). I Am Groot may be one of the first projects that really emphasizes the Disney-Marvel relationships, in that it really embodies the spirit of some of Disney's earliest animated shorts. The big question for Marvel fans is whether or not these shorts are canon in the MCU, and the clearest answer is that it doesn't really matter. Though he has since grown into a surly teenager, fans can still get their fix of Baby Groot in the new animated I Am Groot shorts available on Disney Plus.

All Five 'I Am Groot' Shorts on Disney+, Ranked (Variety)

Here are all five of the initial shorts for Disney+ animated series 'I Am Groot,' ranked.

For “Guardians of the Galaxy” fans, this short is easily the biggest must-see of the series. Beyond depicting an important milestone in Baby Groot’s young life, the episode features some of the funniest physical comedy of the series, complete with a surprisingly heartwarming ending. Most of the time, “I Am Groot’s” lack of stakes is an asset, not a flaw. The real Groot decides to settle their differences the old-fashioned way: a dance-off. But even by the 3-minute shorts’ standards, “Groot Takes a Bath” is a bit too featherlight to have much impact. Here’s all five of the currently released “I Am Groot” shorts, ranked from worst to best.

'I Am Groot': Kirsten Lepore and Brad Winderbaum on Embracing ... (Collider.com)

I Am Groot's Kirsten Lepore and Brad Winderbaum discuss embracing Groot's dark edge and working with Vin Diesel on the Disney+ animated series.

I think they all have different things about them that make them distinct and make it really hard to choose. One of the luxuries of having pieces that are so short is that we were able to build animatics around certain ideas, and play with bits and play with concepts and see what worked and what didn't as we honed into what the identity of the show ultimately ended up being. The minute I think of once I bounce to another one. So, we ended up needing to do a whole record just for the shorts, and I'm so glad we did because once we got Vin in the room, he just nailed it. Even the earliest cartoons at Disney, when you look at Mickey Mouse and Donald, they do some stuff that is equatable to what we see. Brad, he was really championing that opening, but I think it was ultimately Perception that came back with this idea of fast forwarding, and we've loved it. LEPORE: Yeah, and keeping with the way James did it, we also have actual dialogue that's in the script, that's sort of the subtitle of the "I am Groot." I don't know if anyone will ever see it. So really, we have a very loose outline and then the boards come first, and the boards are kind of the thing that start to dictate any of the dialogue and really just the vision of the whole thing, and our script actually comes later, and it's sort of made way after the fact after we've recorded and have our animatics. Silly a lead-in as that is, James Gunn has said that when he's writing the dialogue for Groot in the Guardians movies, he writes the full dialogue of whatever is being said, and then it is translated into how Groot communicates, which is only through one sentence. Ahead of I Am Groot's premiere this week on Disney+, Collider had the opportunity to speak with Lepore and Winderbaum about bringing this first season of shorts to life. In addition to Diesel, Bradley Cooper appears in a brief cameo in one of the first season's five shorts, as well as executive producer James Gunn, who provides the voice of a character known as Wrist Watch. I Am Groot also hails from executive producers Lepore, Gunn, Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, and Victoria Alonso. Editor's note: The below interviews contain minor spoilers for I Am Groot. From creator and executive producer Kirsten Lepore, the first series of animated shorts known quite simply as I Am Groot follow the wacky misadventures of everyone's favorite tree creature as he gets up to various antics in the downtime between Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

Stream It or Skip It: 'I Am Groot' on Disney+, Where the Feisty Little ... (Decider)

I Am Groot is the latest series from Marvel Studios to arrive on Disney+, and it stars the irresistible Guardian of the Galaxy Groot.

It’s true that I Am Groot hasn’t exactly received the same amount of anticipatory fanfare as Ms. Marvel or She-Hulk: Attorney at Law — and that is a shame, because I Am Groot is a damn delight from beginning to end. I Am Groot is a new Disney+ series of shorts that allows the littlest Guardian of the Galaxy to set down roots in a show of his own. The Gist: Set somewhere between Guardians of the Galaxy Vols. 1 and 2, I Am Groot is a series of five 3-4 minute shorts that allow the cutest Guardian to cut loose and go on some solo adventures. And unless you’ve committed the titles of all five to memory, It’s hard to keep track of which ones are which. Our Take: It’s easy for diehard MCU fans to dismiss a series like I Am Groot as unnecessary fluff for children. and then fast-forward kicks in as Groot pops up from offscreen and bumps into the camera.

However, ideally, some of them will be as pleasantly unimportant as watching Groot unwind in a hot tub. The entire film, I Am Groot, is only about 20 minutes long; the individual episodes are only a few minutes apiece. I Am Groot can now be added to that small list of films.

'I Am Groot' Season 1: All Episodes Recap And Easter Eggs ... (Digital Mafia Talkies)

Disney+ Hotstar has just released a miniseries called "I Am Groot" by MCU with five individual shorts of baby Groot's fun adventures. Packed with.

Although it is quite natural that we will see Guardian’s things in Groot’s series, we can expect that we will definitely see this family picture in the upcoming Volume 3 of “Guardians of The Galaxy” as a result of Groot’s hard work. And we finally see the cameo of Rocket, who uses his spectacles to see the complete painting. Even the 80th-century attire that Groot wears in episode 4, the Groot toys with the same figure, are already available on the market. In episode four, we see toddler Groot bathing in a muddy puddle in the jungle of a different planet where their Milano is parked. Anyway, we see Groot is carrying a lot of things along with the Anulax Battery that Rocket stole from Sovereign. He’s also using Peter’s boots, which have rocket propellers on end. In episode two, we see Peter’s Milano is parked on a different planet, where toddler Groot is making a tree house but gets interrupted by a Vyloo, which clears the doubt that Groot is now on the planet named Berhert, as we have seen Vyloos before in vol 2, sitting on a tree on this planet.

The hidden details in I Am Groot, Trolli has partnered with Rick and Morty, Madame Web set photos continue to leak, and more in Link Tank!

With plans for Phase Five and beyond recently announced at San Diego Comic-Con, the shared universe based on the world of Marvel Comics is set to release multiple films and interconnected Disney+ TV series each year for the foreseeable future. The titular MCU martial artist is slated to bring back Lisa Simpson’s ‘perfect future boyfriend.’ Liu will be voicing adult Hubert Wong and guest star in the forthcoming episode, ‘When Nelson Met Lisa.'” “The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been expanding ever since Tony Stark first put on his Mark I armor, and it shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. Some executives were reportedly so angry about the movie, they wanted to leave. Meanwhile, the president and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, said on a recent earnings call that the DC brand would be ‘reset’ with a new 10 year plan on the way.” One of my all-time faves in a Spider-Man property?

'I Am Groot' Reveals a Killer Hiding Among the Guardians of the ... (Collider.com)

I Am Groot shows that Groot seems to have a taste for mayhem and destruction that surpasses any other MCU hero.

The new Groot might be the most dangerous character in the MCU, willing to take out anyone who dares to stay in his way. Baby Groot committed this murder willingly — not because he was possessed by an evil book like Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) or because he lost control of his gamma-ray-infused temper like the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). No. The creature is condemned to a cold and lonely death in the voice of space for committing the crime of mimicking Baby Groot. There can be only one cute creature to receive all the team’s love, and Baby Groot didn’t want to share the spotlight. The episode is shot as a horror film as the gooey alien stalks his prey, aiming away from the camera. The first Guardians of the Galaxy film introduce us to Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), a humanoid tree with a taste for crime and impaling people with his extensive arms. In the second episode of the limited series, Baby Groot discovers an entire civilization hidden beneath a rock. I Am Groot, though, proves a cold-blooded killer is hiding among the Guardians of the Galaxy, using his cuteness as a shield from scrutiny.

I Am Groot is now available on Disney+ in all five of its short episode glory, and it has viewers asking one big question: is this MCU canon?

On one hand, Gunn introduced Groot and oversees his stories in the Guardians films so he would know. I Am Groot director and EP Kirsten Lepore explains how James Gunn contributed to the Disney+ series.

James Gunn has proven to be quite protective of his space adventurers, and for good reason. I Am Groot is led by seasoned animator Kirsten Lepore, who managed to bring her experience with short films to the production. This is greatly due to the keen creative eye of James Gunn, who has served as writer, director and executive producer on the cosmic A-holes’ solo ventures thus far.

9 Best Superhero Shorts Like I Am Groot (Screen Rant)

There are many shorts and web series like I Am Groot worth watching that are just as fun and easy, and these should be on the top of any watchlist.

Lobo is a strange anti-hero that’s particularly difficult to translate from the comics, and these shorts show it might be one of the better formats to do this. 2017’s Spider-Man was part of this universe, and it started off with a series of origin shorts. Another web series in the DC Animated Universe is Gotham Girls. Unlike Lobo, this web series ran for multiple seasons, spanning from 2000 to 2002. As befits the character, these shorts were exceptionally violent and bloody, something clashing in a way with the other shows of its like. Marvel also did a series of shorts to launch the Marvel Rising franchise. There have been some mixed signals whether the show is officially part of the MCU, however, it is such a quick watch it should still be included in fans’ watch lists.
