The Surprising Thing John Cena Apparently Told WWE Writers ... (Cinema Blend)

A former WWE writer broke down what John Cena said when the writers pitched the idea of turning heel during his WWE stint.

While we and see if John Cena will return to the WWE, anyone with a Peacock premium subscription can stream some of his greatest matches right now. For a star like John Cena, that probably would’ve been the safest way to play it, so it's shocking to hear that he really wanted to commit to be an evil heel -- and based on that short response, truly mean one at that. He’s close to surpassing Ric Flair’s record for the most WWE world title runs, and he’s already regarded as a legend for both his in-ring work and the litany of philanthropic ventures he participates in around the world.

How John Cena's Rapping Gimmick Saved Him From Being ... (TheSportster)

John Cena's WWE career was saved when he went from a bland character to the Doctor of Thuganomics. John Cena Rapper Gimmick Promo WrestleMania 20 ...

Without the Doctor of Thuganomics gimmick saving his WWE career a couple of decades back, none of that would have ever happened though. Without, the Doctor of Thuganomics gimmick though, he would have never gotten that chance. During a bus journey on a European tour, Cena engaged in a freestyle rap battle with the likes of Rikishi and Rey Mysterio. Also on the bus was Stephanie McMahon, who was impressed with Cena's ability and challenged him to come up with a freestyle on a can of tuna fish. Cena finally broke out after being handed the Doctor of Thuganomics gimmick. Cena enjoyed a pretty good run in OVW, which was WWE's developmental territory in the late 1990s and most of the 2000s. WWE's Big Lie: "John Cena Never Tapped Out" (TheSportster)

WWE would have you believe that John Cena never tapped out in his career, but that is a complete lie.

Cena was made to look strong but it was Kurt Angle who carried the entire match-up and towards the end, he slammed Big Show out of the ring and applied the same submission to John Cena in the middle of the ring. Cena has tapped out a total of four times and twice to Kurt Angle. During the years of Super Cena, this myth was repeated each time Cena went against someone who had a submission as a finishing move. Cena was on the cusp of superstardom and he was only 2 years into his career as a full-time wrestler. Kurt Angle and John Cena were feuding over the contendership to the world title and Big Show was in the mix as well, but as a third wheel at best. The Olympic hero was the debut opponent for John Cena and back then, Angle was the heel and John Cena was a generic babyface. Sure, Batista main-evented WrestleMania 21 over John Cena and JBL but in terms of pure reaction, Cena elicited far more cheers on a daily basis, and in the aftermath of WrestleMania, the company decided to move forward with Cena as the leading man.

John Cena's Rookie Year In WWE Was A Disaster Backstage (TheSportster)

Before he got his big break, John Cena had a nightmarish time with being accepted backstage.

We all know that the fanbase detested him for the majority of his run but once upon a time, back when he first made his debut for WWE, Cena was the social outcast in the company and he was not particularly liked. Back in 2005, rumors began to swirl that Cena and Triple H did not get along. Considering all that, maybe Lesnar kicking away the hat of John Cena on his first day back at work was not in the script. In a recent interview, Cena said that both Vince McMahon and Triple H wanted him fired. His recent return to the company was presented as a return of a conquering hero. Imagine saying this in 2011 but thanks to his work ethic, charisma, and a fair bit of nostalgia, Cena is beloved by the majority of the fans, even the folks who despised him before.
