Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag drops fresh hint after 'Frenkie de Jong ... (Daily Express)

MANCHESTER UNITED are refusing to give up on Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, with the transfer saga flatly refusing to end.

I see him more as an inside player although he can adapt to the pivot position. But it appears he’s still likelier to stay at the Nou Camp instead of moving to Old Trafford. In recent hours, it’s emerged De Jong has started to re-negotiate his salary with Barcelona. So, good is not good enough, always go for better.” “When he is facing the game, he is a spectacular footballer and you have to try to turn him around, to divide, who does it very well because he has a lot of power, he's physically strong and he has last passes. 'We have options' - Ten Hag issues warning to Man Utd captain ... (Goal.com)

Manchester United boss Erikten Hag has warned Harry Maguire that his place in the starting lineup is not a guarantee despite being the club captain.

WHAT HE SAID: Speaking to reporters ahead of Manchester United's clash against Southampton, Ten Hag said, "It doesn’t mean when you are captain, you are established to play always, especially when you also have Varane in your squad. Varane's stature is immense and in pre-season, we took a decision to build him physically, so he had a bit of a slow start." Harry Maguire was left on the bench by the Manchester United manager in their last Premier League game against Liverpool where they registered their first win of the season.

Southampton vs Man Utd player ratings: Fernandes shows class ... (iNews)

Manchester United enjoy back-to-back wins for first time under Erik ten Hag thanks to Bruno Fernandes' second-half strike at St Mary's.

Continued his aggressive approach and looks set for a run in the team after being named man of the match 8 He’s very good at holding the ball up and getting on the end of crosses. Adam Armstrong: A number of eye-catching dribbles to move away from pressure and carry ball forward. He’s a top player but they still need more. Casemiro is not going to change that fact. You get to 37 years of age, you’re not going to go sprinting away from people. Che Adams: Given a start after his match-winning double from the bench against Leicester. Won a free-kick after a cheeky nutmeg on McTominay and showed some nice turns away from pressure 7 James Ward-Prowse: Like watching a game of chess as he battled the similarly silky Eriksen. The ploy worked to perfection in the 55th minute. Tyrell Malacia: Tenacious presence at left-back despite majority of Southampton coming down his side. Despite the breakthrough, Southampton did not give in.

Ronaldo and Casemiro in - Man United fans name the line-up they ... (Manchester Evening News)

Manchester United fans are calling for new signing Casemiro and Cristiano Ronaldo to start for Erik ten Hag's side against Southampton this afternoon.

However, there is a change from the midfield who started Monday's game, with fans calling for new signing Casemiro to start in place of Scott McTominay. It remains to be seen if Ten Hag will award a start to the new signing, but supporters certainly want to see it. It could be considered harsh to drop Anthony Elanga for Ronaldo, especially considering the youngster played well against Klopp's side. Prior to the win over Jurgen Klopp's side, United lost to Brighton and Brentford in their opening two matches. The back four pick themselves after a strong showing against Liverpool. If there is one sure starter in Ten Hag's side at the minute, it's David de Gea.

Southampton 0-1 Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes' fine volley ... (Sky Sports)

Manchester United headed south in buoyant mood following Monday night's morale-boosting victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford. Ten Hag named the same side ...

Three days later, Erik ten Hag's side welcome Arsenal to Old Trafford on Super Sunday, live on Sky Sports from 4pm (kick-off 4.30pm). The Argentine won five out of five aerial duels against Southampton and had a 100 per cent ground success. All of a sudden there's competition for places again - a positive selection headache to have. Much has been made of Martinez's height at 5ft 9in, but the stats suggest there has been a fuss about nothing. A first clean sheet of the season will have delighted Ten Hag. Three points against rivals Liverpool on Monday night and the £70m arrival of Brazil midfielder Casemiro meant they travelled to Southampton on Saturday lunchtime full of hope and optimism. Harry Maguire started on the bench again after being dropped against Liverpool, with the United boss warning pre-match that the England defender will not play just because he is the captain of the club. United were probing and their pressure was rewarded in the 55th minute. Ten Hag's side controlled possession for large periods but Southampton continued to look dangerous on the break. A hard-fought win at St Mary's showed they are capable of producing it. Elanga then thought he was in on a goal minutes later after a quick one-two with Fernandes, but Bella-Kotchap made a superb last-ditch tackle to deny him. Scott McTominay's effort was routinely saved by Buzunu at the near post, before Varane headed over the bar from the resulting corner.

Bruno: Our spirit saw off the Saints (Manchester United)

Fernandes: Our spirit saw off the Saints · Fernandes' 55th-minute winner secured all three points and built on the memorable 2-1 victory over Liverpool earlier ...

“We have to carry on for the rest of the season. “We said it today before the game. That’s what it’s about to play for Manchester United.” “An amazing cross from Diogo,” said Fernandes. Buoyed by the incisive runs of Anthony Elanga and Jadon Sancho, who began to cut inside to create space for others, the Reds ripped through the Saints' defence with a fantastic passing move that ended with Bruno firing into the back of the net. The hosts were well-drilled and compact, giving United little room to breathe on a less-than-perfect pitch.
