Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns renew their rivalry with SuperSport United in the first round of the MTN8 on Sunday evening.

The last time the sides met in the tournament was in the semi-finals in 2019 where eventual winners SuperSport prevailed 3-1 on aggregate. Matsatsantsa have won the tournament twice in the current guise, in 2017 and 2019. But that didn’t change the fact that Sundowns were the clear favourites given their depth, while SuperSport relied on youngsters.
