Springboks player ratings vs Wallabies | Rugby Championship (RugbyPass)

How did the Springboks rate in their drought-ending victory over the Wallabies in Sydney?

He just brings plenty of energy when he comes onto the field. [Marika Koroibete](https://www.rugbypass.com/players/marika-koroibete/) to gather a high ball before running away for a sensational try in the 39th minute. It was a huge shift from the prop. The Wallabies also had to use a lot of energy to stop him at the breakdowns. He was on the field for about 65 minutes, which must be close to a record for him. He also won a turnover and tackled like a man possessed in open play. He made the most carries and he made more metres than any another forward. He produced a perfectly weighted kick for Canan Moodie’s try. It was a mixed bag from the playmaker. It did cost him a yellow card in the end. He produced some strong carries and he scored a try in the ninth minute. It was there for all to see at the Sydney Football Ground where they outscored their opponents by four tries to one.

Rugby Championship: Five takeaways from Australia v South Africa ... (planetrugby.com)

Following a 24-8 victory for South Africa over Australia in their Rugby Championship clash, here's our five takeaways from the match in Sydney.

Nienaber knows that the Boks need to score more tries in the modern game than of late and today was a step forward in the right direction. Let’s hope we see a lot more of it and its wonderful playing surface in the years to come. The Springbok back-row were huge, both as starters and finishers with Kolisi the player of the match, Wiese hitting the most carries in the game and Franco Mostert adding urgency (and a try) to the blindside flank. Losing both your 10 and 12 in a match is unfortunate, but that’s what happened, which resulted in Nic White dropping back to outside half to try and control the match. With the undercurrent of Nic White’s theatrics last weekend, this game was played with ill-temper and vocal sledging threatening to boil over at every single contact point. [Australia](https://www.planetrugby.com/team/australia) to cope with as quite consistently they were schooled in the collision.

South Africa blitz woeful Australia in tempestuous Rugby ... (The Guardian)

The Springboks snapped a nine-year losing streak on Australian soil with a 24-8 victory over the Wallabies in Sydney.

At times it was a spiteful ugly Test, with brawls breaking out all game and plenty of needle in the clinches. But the rest were ragged and outplayed by their opposites. His frontline bulls battered Australia from the get-go, rolling through the middle and freeing the fast men to run, kick and cause havoc in open play. They kicked when they should have run, and ran when they should have kicked. The first Spring Test had sprung bitterly cold and windy, with fine misting rain swirling in to defy the “100% drip line roof” on the new stadium. [New Zealand demolishing Argentina 53-3](https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/sep/03/south-africa-blitz-australia-in-tempestuous-rugby-championship-test) earlier on Saturday, Australia had a golden chance to put daylight between them and their rivals in the Rugby Championship.

Boks end Aussie drought to keep Rugby Championship hopes alive (Daily Maverick)

The Springboks earned their first win over the Wallabies in Australia since 2013. It was also their first victory in Sydney since 1993.

But the challenge is now for the world champions to produce this type of performance every time, not every now and then. The teenager landed with 30 clear metres in front of him, and had the pace to beat the cover for his first Test try on debut. De Allende’s second to last draw and pass to give Mostert the space he needed to finish, was stunning. It was a well-weighted punt by the halfback, and Moodie’s run and jump to collect the ball off Wallaby wing Marika Koroibete’s fingertips was perfection. Starting well is essential and having Marx on the field is the closest thing to a guarantee of achieving that at Test level. At fullback, Willie le Roux was a picture of calm and class, and centre Jesse Kriel quietly marshalled the defence superbly. With the intensity Marx and Wiese brought, it raised the entire level of those around them. This was the return of a team that suffocates opponents and turns the screw effectively. This was the Bok team that plays with wincing intensity from start to finish, and never lets up. He carried over the advantage line regularly and put in a huge defensive shift. How Marx did not start the last two Tests, in the absence of the injured Bongi Mbonambi, remains a mystery.
