Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates in Africa's top ... (Goal.com)

PSL big hitters Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates possess some of Africa's most valuable squads, but have arguably been underachieving.

That’s not the amount Sundowns paid for their players, but their current book value, calculated on a number of different variables including contract length, age and performance data. Based on the squad valuations, it could be argued that South African clubs have underachieved on the continent over the past half a decade. Amakhosi’s valuation of R218 million is calculated on a squad size of 31, at an average of just over R7 million per player. For the Buccaneers, the per player average in their 30-man squad is R7,2, slightly more than their Soweto rivals. Sundowns’ R450-million squad is calculated from 42 players on the Pretoria club’s books (including those out on loan), giving a per player average of R10.71 million. The value placed on Sundowns’ squad is 26.38 million Euros, which is just over R450 million.

DStv Premiership Report: Mamelodi Sundowns v Chippa United 07 ... (Soccer Laduma)

Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United entered the halftime break deadlocked at 0-0 in their DStv Premiership clash on Wednesday evening.

With the game on the edge, Chippa had their best chance in the last ten minutes from a quick break attack after Thabiso Lebitso went through in goal, in a two versus two situation but he opted for a shot just wide of the near post. Masandawana remained on the front foot early in the second stanza and Mvala had a good chance ten minutes in after knocked down header by Peter Shalulile in the box but he missed the flight of the ball in an attempted volley. Sundowns continued to pin back Daine Klate's charges in their own half and Allende came close to breaking the deadlock on the stroke of halftime with a free header in the box that missed the gaping net with Kazapua out of his area.

Mamelodi Sundowns will be at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium keen to prove their PSL dominance is not coming to an end.

The Chilli Boys, however, can be party spoilers after they beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 at Orlando Stadium in their only win of the campaign and their other results are three defeats and two draws. They face the Chilli Boys who are at the bottom of the log and also fighting to rise from the basement. In the bid to pick themselves up, Sundowns would be seeking to beat Chippa United away from home.

Time-wasting in PSL is killing our game: Sundowns coach Mngqithi (SowetanLIVE)

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi says the time-wasting in the DStv Premiership, and how referees police it, is a major concern.

“I don’t think people are looking at this thing closely because nobody seems to bother much, but if we don't pay attention I think it will have a negative impact. That for me is a cause for concern because our officials seem not to be doing anything about it. “I don't know whether we can see what is happening in the PSL right now.
