They outbid Super Kings and got the left-arm seam-bowling allrounder for Rand 5.6 million (USD 316,000 approx). Having listed his base price at Rand 175,000 (USD 10,000 approx.), the 24-year-old, who can also bowl, was eventually snapped up by Super Kings for Rand 5.5 million (USD 310,000 approx.) in the accelerated round of the auction. Marco is already part of the Sunrisers franchise (Hyderabad) in the IPL while Duan was recently with the Mumbai Indians development squad that had toured the UK. Stubbs then joined Manchester Originals for the Hundred where his part-time offspin was also matched up with left-hand batters. [Donavon Ferreira](http://www.espncricinfo.com/player/donavon-ferreira-698315), who plays for Titans, also created a big stir. Sunrisers Eastern Cape won a fierce bidding war against MI Cape Town and Jo'burg Super Kings to snap up their homegrown hero.

Other South African players who cost an arm and a leg are George Linde, who was auctioned off at R3.9 million to MI Cape Town and fellow national team spinner Keshav Maharaj, who was snapped up for R2.5 million by the Durban Super Giants. It was a good day generally for South African players with Rassie van der Dussen being snapped up for R3.9 million by the MI Cape Town. SA20 player auction: Four things we learned and full squads (Citizen)

South Africa's SA20 competition held its first player auction on Monday and here are the four things we learned about T20 cricket.

Six teams were involved, each needing to fill a squad with 17 players who’ll be in action in the competition in January next year. We all know how effective Imran Tahir was for the Proteas, and on Monday all of South Africa’s leading slow bowlers found a home — Bjorn Fortuin (R1.5m), Tabraiz Shamsi (R4.3m), Keshav Maharaj (R2.5m), Simon Harmer (R200,000) and George Linde (R3.9m). It may be a game of big hitters, but spin bowling has become just as big a deal in the shortest format of the game. South Africa’s Marco Jansen (R6.1 million), a now established Test player, has proved himself with bat and ball and he too, will be part of the SA20. They say it’s a game for the batsmen and so it proved yet again with rookie South African batters Tristan Stubbs (R9.2 million) and Donovan Ferreira (R5.5 million) being highly sought-after. Over 300 players put their names in the hat, and when the dust had settled South African, and worldwide, cricket fans had a good idea of the wants and needs in T20 cricket.

A few swing-and-misses between the big sixes at SA20 auction (Daily Maverick)

There were instant millionaires at Monday's inaugural SA20 auction — such as Tristan Stubbs and Donavon Ferreira — but some big-name Proteas were snubbed.

A few weeks ago, he was selected in South Africa’s 15-man playing squad for the T20 World Cup, and Monday night saw him go to the Pretoria Capitals for the handsome sum of R5.6-million. “I’ve been a big fan of Magala for a long time. “It was a very important possession for us… However, he has been one of the top death bowlers in South African domestic cricket for a long time. Sometimes some of the South African boys are competing with some of the players the franchises have felt should go to an overseas player potentially. “I know he made my heart beat. “There’s a lot of competition for places. “It just goes to show how competitive it is. The national captain failed to receive any bids. Hopefully this is an opportunity for him to grow and get better. He’s still young and he can easily force himself back, most importantly into the national team… “It’s not just Andile…
