[Robert Lewandowski](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/player/_/id/125824/Robert-Lewandowski) found himself on the edge of the box in the 57th minute and played a one-touch cross to Swiderski, who struck instinctively into the bottom right corner. I'm glad I took advantage of his pass and scored that goal." [Daniel James](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/player/_/id/203072/Daniel-James) ran with the ball towards goalkeeper [Wojciech Szczesny](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/player/_/id/131634/Wojciech-Szczesny) and struck from close range, but the [Juventus](/football/team?id=111) keeper saved both his first attempt and the follow-up. Swiderski strike condemns Wales to Nations League relegation (WalesOnline)

Wales were beaten 1-0 by Poland to ensure they were relegated from the top tier of the Nations League. Karol Swiderski struck the only goal of the game at ...

Johnson almost gave his side a dream response as he cut on to his left foot before curling a fierce shot at goal, only for Szczฤ™sny to spectacularly palm the effort wide. And Poland struck gold in the 58th minute as Swiderski played a slick one-two with Lewandowski before drilling beyond Hennessey. Poland had the first effort on target in the 25th minute as Piotr Zielinski picked out Robert Lewandowski from a free-kick, although the Barcelona star's header was straight at Hennessey. They then almost caught Poland napping from a throw-in as Connor Roberts picked out Bale who could only drill at the goalkeeper from an acute angle. Despite the spikiness between the teams, there was precious little for goalkeepers Wayne Hennessey and Wojciech Szczฤ™sny to do in the early stages. Ben Cabango and Joe Morrell replaced suspended duo Chris Mepham and Ethan Ampadu while captain Gareth Bale and Dylan Levitt came in for Kieffer Moore and Matt Smith who both dropped to the bench. Anyway, Poland win a freekick in the middle of the park after Cabango is penalised for a foul on Lewandowski. The Nottingham Forest ace gave his all in an attempt to get his side back into the contest and drilled over from a narrow angle soon after as the Polish took the sting out of proceedings. It represented a good spell for the away side who grew in confidence and looked the more likely to break the deadlock in what was a tight affair. The visitors - backed by a lively contingent of around 2,000 supporters - were intent on disrupting play whenever possible as they looked to secure the point they needed to consolidate their place in the top tier of the competition. Only a victory would do for the hosts, and they looked to start on the front foot in the Welsh capital, although Czeslaw Michniewicz's side always carried a threat on the counter attack. Karol Swiderski struck the only goal of the game at Cardiff City Stadium in the second-half as the visitors clinched all three points to leave Rob Page's side at the bottom of the group with just one point from six matches - with Wales set to return to League B for the next edition of the competition.
