7 Games That Reward You For Being Underleveled (Game Rant)

Sometimes, leveling up in a game isn't a wise idea. These games actually reward players for being underleveled.

[Final Fantasy 8](https://gamerant.com/tag/final-fantasy-8/) is a game that many people consider to be a mixed bag. The massive open world and a great main quest formed the two central pillars of this game that made it so satisfying to play through. Final Fantasy 8 is a game where enemies level up along with the player. [Undertale](https://gamerant.com/tag/undertale/) is one of the most clever games made, with this anti-RPG actually dissuading players from fighting in a bid to help them realize the more charming facets of gaming instead. Players can do a low-level run in the game and only upgrade their weapons, which forces them to learn enemy patterns and choose their attack windows wisely. For the most part, any game with a leveling system pretty much compels players to try and get the highest stats possible to make the most of what the title has to offer.

Game On: Destiny 2's 'content vault' locks gamers out of missions ... (The Spokesman-Review)

I've written at length about the “games as a service” model before, wherein video games are continually updated with new content every few months.

I binged Destiny 2 when it was released in 2017, and after a long break I attempted to return to the game upon the release of its Beyond Light expansion in late 2020. Those few who defend Destiny 2’s content vault claim it’s Bungie’s way of trimming the fat by preserving only the best content while discarding the rest. I believe the real reason behind Destiny 2’s “content vault” is to sell the expansion packs. But this excuse rings hollow considering other developers have found a way around such issues by allowing players to install and uninstall portions of their game at will. Bellevue-based developer Bungie not only asks for Destiny 2 players to buy its various expansions to get the whole experience – a fairly normal concept – they also routinely “vault” content, outright deleting sections of the game. In recent years, games like Fortnite and Destiny have managed to introduce tens of millions of gamers to their continually updated gameplay model.

Lewd Card Game Gets Shut Down By Kirby Studio (Kotaku)

Kirby's Chef Kawasaki wore tiny, tiny bikinis in this cute/disturbing fan-made card game.

[reported by Automaton Media](https://automaton-media.com/en/news/20220928-15926/), Chef Kawasaki’s Microbikini Karuta is a fan-made, physical card game inspired by a wave of memes that outfit the jumbo chef in a tight-fitting two-piece bathing suit. Created by [artist Haru Uchida](https://twitter.com/Halle_Uchida), the game was for sale on Booth.pm, the Japanese online marketplace for independent creators. Suffice it to say it’s largely NSFW, but here’s one of the tamer ones: As such, they’ve yanked the game from Booth and won’t be distributing it digitally, [according to the game’s Twitter account](https://twitter.com/KWSKkaruta/status/1575017965673910272). But that’s all in the past as Kirby rights-holder HAL Laboratory has done what IP holders are wont to do, and asked for distribution to cease.

Nintendo (and by extension, its partner companies and studios) are notoriously strict on how its brands can be used, but even so, you can't create something using one of the company's IPs and sell it without Nintendo's permission. The makers of the card game revealed that the game had been withdrawn from storefronts, with Apparently, it's a bit of a meme. Chef Kawasaki’s Microbikini Karuta is based on 'karuta', a type of Japanese playing card that was introduced to the country by Portuguese traders back in the 1600s. That seems relatively harmless on its own — despite the fact that it's a card game featuring Kirby, a pretty huge Nintendo property, that was being sold on the Japanese marketplace BOOTH — but when we tell you there's a micro bikini-clad Chef Kawasaki, you might raise an eyebrow. There are two types of karuta — Uta-Garuta, the former working with a much larger deck with the latter aimed more at children.

EA shows off its Monster Hunter-style game called Wild Hearts (The Verge)

EA showed off the first trailer for Wild Hearts, a new Monster Hunter-style action game from Omega Force, which launches on February 17th, 2023.

(And it’s on top by a large margin: Capcom’s second best-selling game is [Resident Evil 7](https://www.theverge.com/2017/1/23/14353714/resident-evil-7-biohazard-review-ps4-xbox-one-pc), with 11 million units.) To date, though, there has been little in the way of competition to MonHun’s unique style of action. Wild Hearts takes place in Azuma, a fantasy landscape inspired by feudal Japan, that is now rampaged by the once peaceful Kemono — altering their environment at the cost of citizens’ lives. [EA announced](https://www.theverge.com/2022/9/12/23350034/ea-koei-tecmo-next-great-hunting-game-monster-hunter-originals) that it was partnering with Dynasty Warriors studio Omega Force on a Monster Hunter-style action game. Today, the companies finally showed off the first trailer for the title, which has been dubbed Wild Hearts (not to be confused with [the excellent indie game Sayonara Wild Hearts](https://www.theverge.com/2019/9/25/20882183/sayonara-wild-hearts-interview-switch-ps4-apple-arcade-simogo)). Wild Hearts Interview: Magical Building, Open Worlds, and Why It's ... (IGN)

Wild Hearts is EA and Koei Tecmo's new Monster Hunter-like action game. Our exclusive interview covers everything from why it's not an open world, ...

KH: We wanted to create a hunting game that would be enjoyed by players around the world. KH: We believe that the fantastic and unique worldview inspired by feudal Japan is one of the key aspects of Wild Hearts. KH: If we start counting from the conception and planning stages, we have been working on Wild Hearts for four years. EA is of the same opinion and really respects our creativity. TE: Wild Hearts uses a zone-based system, which we believe has significant advantages in a hunting game in which the player repeatedly hunts. With Wild Hearts, we embraced the challenge of using new technology. KH: Players hunt using a type of crafting called Karakuri, an ancient technology that allows for the creation of extremely flexible and creative hunting grounds to take on powerful beasts. On the other hand, Kemono, which are a fusion of nature and animals, can hunt players down with a wide variety of attacks that real animals can't perform. We believe that Wild Hearts, born from these core ideas, is a hunting game that offers a new and innovative experience. Takuto Edagawa: We wanted Wild Hearts to appeal to a more global audience than the Toukiden series. Are you solely creating hunting tools, or can you build structures as in the likes of Fortnite? One challenge we faced was creating something unique with universal appeal that would be accepted by players around the world.

Dynasty Warriors Studio Reveals Wild Hearts, A Monster Hunter ... (Game Informer)

Electronic Arts and Koei Tecmo have revealed Wild Hearts, a new Monster Hunter-like game coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC next year.

Wild Hearts take place in Azuma, a fantasy landscape inspired by feudal Japan, now ravaged by the once-peaceful Kemono. "With Wild Hearts, not only did we want to showcase the evolution, infusion, and real threat caused by Kemono, but we also wanted to create a game where crafting was at the core of the experience, redefining what can be possible in a beast hunting game. The game seems to take place in a mythological land filled with large and dangerous beasts.

My least favourite game: our writers pick out their worst football ... (The Guardian)

A trip to the football can create lifelong memories – here are the games our writers remember for all the wrong reasons.

I doubt there was a shot on target and it was a rip-off. My mood was improved by the sight of Chris Samba getting on the tube at Putney Bridge, decked in questionable denim, for what must have been a fittingly huge night out on the town. But the presence of Blatter and Saeed makes this match the most discordant in my two decades reporting on football for The Observer and Guardian. [Romania visited Wembley](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlZ9HS2E0eY) – I was 15 and had never been to a match without my Dad; nor had I ever, despite growing up within walking distance of the Twin Towers, been to see England. We are going forward and working not only for football but for peace.” Later, on the pitch, Iraq triumphed via a [Mohammed Emad overhead volley](https://youtu.be/jvyQ_BBa_vc?t=21) to reach the semi-finals. The timing was unfortunate, too – the previous night had seen the horror of the terrorist attack in Paris, and Zinedine Zidane had decided not to play. The coach broke down on the way and by the time we got to the ground, the second half had started, Bradford were down to 10 men and losing 2-0. In the end, I actually quit so I could jump on a mid-afternoon coach trip to Kidderminster. [last-minute winner](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/nov/18/argentina-portugal-international-friendly-match-report) was Portugal’s first shot on target and did little to thaw the frozen and bored fans. Nothing else happened until the visitors scored with the last kick, to the delight of the 50 away fans in attendance. As a sullen teenage football hipster, I agreed to attend a family holiday to northern Spain on the condition we went to a match somewhere. Sitting in the KC Stadium media lounge on a chilly night, I was unaware of this.

Missouri musician releases Badageetchy, a silly, strategy board ... (Springfield News-Leader)

Missouri musician Brian Bulger recently announced his new board game, Badageetchy. The game may be silly, but its creation process has a lot of heart.

Bulger is hosting a Kickstarter to raise funds for the creation and distribution of Badageetchy. The campaign's goal is $25,000 and as of Wednesday, more than $2,900 was raised. As for the Piggies, Bulger said he wanted to include an animal character. The second way to complete the game is by reading all of the "Newspigper" (the game's newspaper) cards. "Badageetchy was one of those obsessive words that I made up at 18, and I have no idea why," he said. At the end of each individual turn, a player must draw a Newspigper card. With Top Investor status, players are able to enter the "Mall of Laryn B. Badageetchy comes with 40 Newspigper cards, but the number used during gameplay varies per number of players. After years of keeping the project a secret, he announced it on the Board games, from classics to the more obscure, have been a part of Brian Bulger's life for as long as he can remember. "The wheel is always flat. Each player chooses one of five available Piggy characters, each with their own unique backstories and "Badageetchabilities."

Solana NFT Game Star Atlas Launches Playable Demo on Epic ... (Decrypt)

Star Atlas just rolled out its first playable demo, plus its developer released tools to help other studios bring games to Solana.

All of the game functionality will be available through both versions, but the Epic Games Store version will require a gaming-capable PC to run. He said that other builders could also take the kit and extend it to other networks, such as Star Atlas is currently only offering access to people who own the NFTs: they can earn an access key by owning a ship and joining one of Star Atlas’ in-game factions. The Foundation Software Development Kit (F-KIT) is an open-source SDK that lets Unreal Engine 5 developers integrate the Solana blockchain, letting users sign transactions to complete in-game actions. Eager players won’t have to wait that long to get a small taste, however: a limited demo has just been released via the Epic Games Store. It lets Star Atlas NFT owners explore a 3D environment and view the ships and vehicles in which they've invested.
