Namor (and others) strike at a seemingly weakened Wakanda in this dramatic trailer for the next 'Black Panther' film.
Television shows, like NewsRadio and Eight Simple Rules, have worked a shocking death of a significant cast member into the ongoing narrative, but this is uncharted territory for a blockbuster theatrical. What would be a significant upswing for any other franchise (say, Thor: The Dark World earning 13% more domestically and 43% more worldwide than the first Thor) is par for the course. Unlike Furious 7, Star Wars: The Last Jedi or The Dark Knight, Black Panther 2 explicitly acknowledges the death of its onscreen title character (and, by proxy, the actor). As for how it will perform, it’s just a question of whether it earns ‘all the money’ or must settle for ‘the vast majority of the money.’ If it merely plays like Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (-37% domestic but -28% worldwide), it’ll still gross $441 million domestic and (minus China, presumably) $950 million worldwide. That feels like the realistic worst-case-scenario, and quite a few sequels to well-liked predecessors (Star Trek Into Darkness, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Avengers: Age of Ultron, etc.) gross less domestically but more overseas for relatively over/under global totals compared to the respective first flick. I’m curious to what extent it will play in the whole ‘grimmer, darker sequel that challenges the simplistic morality of its crowdpleasing predecessor’ box since the first Black Panther flirted with that narrative.

Meanwhile, Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), a young inventor, builds a suit of armor that looks a lot like Iron Man armor — so those worried that Ironheart’s appearance was merely a tease in this film can rest assured, it seems like she’s playing a pretty big part.

Marvel Studios' Black Panther: Wakanda Forever drops a new trailer, debuting a comics-accurate depiction of Namor's costume and ability to fly.
Another crucial aspect of the MCU's depiction of the character is the fact that he is not Atlantean in the film. Namor the Sub-Mariner made his comic book debut in Marvel Comics #1, created by Bill Everett, in 1939, following an appearance in an uncirculated comic exclusive to movie theaters. The clip had a lot to offer, including a first look at Namor's ability to fly, which is notable because of how accurate it is as an adaptation.
“Latin-Americans are always the bad guys in Hollywood movies,” Huerta said. “And now we are the heroes – or an anti-hero, in this instance.”.
“Although [Namor] the Sub-Mariner acted like a villain, his cause had some justice, and readers reveled in his assaults on civilization,” Daniels wrote. “Where there was civilization, you could find Namor wreaking havoc as payback for the land dwellers’ assault on Atlantis. In it we see Namor in his home, painting on its walls and the people who reside in his lands below water and above. We also get to see him flying, the wings on his feet as proof that he’s a mutant. The revelation will sit well with many comic book purists who know about Namor’s history since he made his debut on the cover of Marvel Comics #1 in 1939. [Marvel](https://www.amazon.com/Marvel-Fabulous-Decades-Worlds-Greatest/dp/0810925664): Five Fabulous Decades of the World’s Greatest Comics, author and comics historian Les Daniels referred to Namor as “a freak in the service of chaos.” He is not only considered “Marvel’s first mutant,” but also “Marvel’s first anti-hero.”

Ryan Coogler talks about the impact of losing Chadwick Boseman.
Coogler, N'yongo, and everyone involved is making this movie in “There’s that idea of grief and intense emotion feeling like it comes in waves. Coogler's awareness of transparency in movie-making should be a great sign for all blockbuster fans. Every Marvel fan will walk into theaters to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever with full hearts. “The movie is very much about how you move forward while dealing with a tragic loss. With the loss of leading man Chadwick Boseman in 2020, it is shaping up to be one of the most emotional Marvel Studios entries yet. If I don’t believe in what I’m doing, I’m going to have a hard time getting other people to do their best work. With Boseman gone and the Black Panther franchise being a billion-dollar business, Coogler had to decide whether he wanted to continue telling stories on the big screen.
