The Dis-Chem board has apologised for the "wording" and "tone" of an internal memorandum that has been widely shared on social media.

“We apologise for the erroneous communication with caused offence to any South African community. “Equality, diversity and inclusivity are important throughout Dis-Chem, and we continue to make great strides in ensuring that we maintain progress in this area. We deeply value all our employees and appreciate their contribution to Dis-Chem.”

Dis-Chem withdraws memo on hiring of whites (Jacaranda FM)

Pharmaceutical retailer Dis-chem has withdrawn a leaked internal memo by CEO Ivan Saltzman on the hiring of white people.

"We regret the wording and tone of an internal memorandum that has been erroneously widely shared. [@Dischem]distributed a letter saying if you're white you can't be promoted and that white appointments should be stopped. [You are invited to the ultimate holiday in paradise](https://www.jacarandafm.com/shows/drive/you-are-invited-ultimate-holiday-paradise/) In a statement released on Monday, the Dis-Chem board said the letter was withdrawn due to the poor wording, but the spirit in which the letter was written remains the same. CEO Ivan Saltzman, you should be ashamed. The internal memo, which has since gone viral on social media, was informing the team of a moratorium on the hiring more white people in order to reach the company’s transformation targets.
