Given the fact Rotherham are newly-promoted, Stoke will start as favourites and they will fancy their chances after the past two results which has given the team some welcome momentum going into this one. Despite their decent start to the campaign, the Millers are yet to win away from home in the Championship this season, although they have drawn three of their five games on the road, scoring just once. After a slow start under Alex Neil, impressive back-to-back wins against Sheffield United and Preston have lifted the mood around the club and they will look to continue their climb up the table against the Millers.

Rathbone nets winner for Rotherham at Stoke (BBC News)

Rotherham United claim their first away win of the season at Stoke, thanks to an early goal from Ollie Rathbone.

Nick Powell (Stoke City) header from a difficult angle on the left is saved in the top centre of the goal. Post update Assisted by Lewis Baker with a cross. The three-man front line of Gayle, Campbell and Delap persistently created openings and space but struggled for clear-cut opportunities. Liam Delap went even closer just before the break. Tyrese Campbell was unfortunate not to equalise on 19 minutes when he was released into space by Dwight Gayle. With Stoke's defence having to readjust, the set-piece was only partially cleared and the ball fell for Rathbone, whose low shot travelled through the congested penalty area, beating Josef Bursik at his left-hand post. - Shots - 28Laurent - 16Wilmot - 6Jagielka - 1Bursik

The onslaught continued and Campbell, who netted a classy goal in last Saturday’s win at Preston, headed wide when it looked easier to score. [Jordan Thompson](/topic/jordan-thompson) thought his stoppage-time header was goal bound until the keeper tipped the ball away to safety to earn Rotherham a gritty win and 10th place in the Championship. Instead, Johansson regularly frustrated the hosts.

Stoke City 0 Rotherham 1 live - Alex Neil reaction as visitors hang on (Stoke-on-Trent Live)

Stoke City return to the bet365 Stadium this evening to host a Championship match against Rotherham. Stoke are looking to secure three wins in a row for ...

That was a very tight call. Brown is up to meet a cross from Clarke but gets punched in the head by Johansson. That's earned him a generous 2 in the match ratings. We were probably a bit lucky with Jagielka being off and they were one short. From that perspective, that ruling is the most out-dated silly rule I've ever seen. And it cost us the goal. I thought performance wise it was arguably as good as we've been in a while. The corner's come in the box and Phil's not done anything wrong. I can't be critical of the lads. When they've underperformed they know they've underperformed but when you've played the game as long as a lot of our lads have, they know what they've done their bits. [Stoke City](https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/all-about/stoke-city-fc) news, action and reaction throughout the evening. Stoke are looking to secure three wins in a row for only the second time since October 2016 as Alex Neil tries to build on strong performances against Sheffield United and Preston.

The visitors made four changes from their weekend victory over Huddersfield Town. Young defender Cameron Humphreys was drafted into the back three while Taylor ...

Taylor’s side had a couple of late scares when Thompson planted a cross which sub D’Margio Wright-Phillips attempted to turn home from close range, but Johansson was in no mood to be beaten, as he scuffed the ball away from goal. There was a moment of controversy, in the half’s last act, when Delap tumbled under the challenge of Humphreys in the box, but the referee waved away home appeals for a spot kick – with the home forward, arguably, fortunate to escape sanction for simulation. In the latter stages of the half, Hall got himself in a muddle when Delap had the better of a tussle - which ended when the Stoke forward was brought down on the edge of the box - and despite the bet365 faithful baying for a red card for the Rotherham centre-half, the referee opted for yellow. The home side sprang to life when Tyrese Campbell left Humphreys in his wake to dart to the touchline but his centre was cut out by Grant Hall before the same player was put in the clear following a lovely through ball from Dwight Gayle but Johansson kept his nerve in the one-on-one situation, by parrying the ball to safety after Campbell attempted to round him. A short corner from Ferguson caught Stoke napping, and Rathbone got the ball under his spell before unleashing a dipping effort, which bounced awkwardly, near the outstretched foot of Harding and a masse of players in the box, and Joe Bursik seemed to be deceived in the air, as the ball evaded his attentions before finding the corner of the home net. The Millers made a bright opening and they had the first sights of goal when firstly Odoffin dragged a long-range effort harmlessly wide of the target before some neat one-touch football paved the way for Shane Ferguson to deliver a delicious centre which was aimed at an unmarked Kelly in the box but Ben Wilmot hacked the ball behind his own goal.

Matt Taylor on Rotherham United's 'luck' being fully deserved at ... (Yorkshire Post)

ROTHERHAM UNITED manager Matt Taylor admitted his side's 1-0 victory at Stoke City possessed an element of luck, but insisted it was also deserved.

We were out on our feet at times and we weren't perfect but the result is what matters." If the player was off the pitch because he had done something wrong, fine. "But their goal is so frustrating for me. "From that perspective that rule is the most outdated, silly rule I have ever seen. "Luck played its part, of course it did. After that, the visitors protected their lead with everything they had.

3 things we clearly learnt about Stoke City after their 1-0 defeat v ... (Football League World)

Stoke City are still looking for consistency this season and despite Alex Neil's appointment as manager at the Bet365 Stadium, they are still struggling to…

However, to make it count, the Potters now need to be looking at how they make sure they use all that time on the ball to their advantage. However, even if they weren’t able to find the confidence to score, they have to make sure they are at the top of their game for the full 90 minutes as they look for results going forward. From that alone, we can see that the Potters should have scored and have to be taking advantage of games like that if they want to pick up three points. Therefore, we can see that there isn’t one player in the side who is scoring the majority of the goals which could be a contribution of a lack of confidence in front of goal. It’s a positive to have the most of the share of possession and it shows an ability to keep the ball. However, when you consider that it was a low scoring game with no goals for Stoke, you have to question their ability to use the ball effectively and get them into good places going forward.
