'Almost disrespectful': Red Bull slammed as dark cloud hangs over qualifying: F1 LIVE.

If not, I don’t know what it means for the cost cap but I think it’s in everyone’s interest for this sport that it gets dealt with properly.” But in general, even if it wasn’t the most comfortable car to drive out there, we were quick, which is what counts. “You’ve got nine, or eight, teams that have worked incredibly hard to stick to those rules, compromised many things, people being made redundant. Two other drivers will take grid penalties after taking on new engine components and exceeding the regulated limits. Second weekend in a row!” “There’s still a bit of work to do on the car for tomorrow, especially FP3 where we need to test a couple of things that we couldn’t test in FP2 because of the Pirelli test – so a few things are on the checklist.” But Daniel Ricciardo suffered another dismal performance, this time qualifying just 17th for the US Grand Prix. it’s okay.” His teammate Sergio Perez was just behind him in fourth, but also has a five-place grid penalty. He said: “I was running out of tyres... Esteban Ocon was another surprise elimination in Q1. If they don’t wake up, not my f***ing fault.” But his luck hardly improved in the second qualifying session, as he struggled to get his Alpha Tauri to turn into hairpins after long straights.

2022 F1 US GP : Qualifying predictions (Sportskeeda)

With the first day running for the F1 US GP now in the background, we're heading into the business end of the weekend.

If we have to pick the top 3 drivers for the F1 US GP qualifying, then it will be Charles Leclerc in pole position, with [Max Verstappen](https://www.sportskeeda.com/player/max-verstappen) being second and Carlos Sainz third. If the first day of running for the 2022 F1 US GP is any indication, not only does Haas look good, but also Mick Schumacher. Sergio Perez will need to nail the perfect lap in qualifying to minimize the damage caused by the grid drop for the F1 US GP. With the first day running for the F1 US GP now in the background, we're heading into the business end of the weekend. With a few Red Bull and Ferrari drivers facing grid penalties for the 2022 F1 US GP, the bad qualifying position might not matter. While the second session was a bit inconsequential as teams had to run the prototype Pirelli tires, the first session gave hints of what to expect from qualifying this Saturday.

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were strong in Friday's practice sessions ahead of Saturday's qualifying for Formula 1 race in Texas.

Hamilton has a record six wins in the U.S. The race was first held in 1908 and has been part of the F1 slate off and on since 1959. Pérez has finished first and second, respectively, in the last two F1 events to overtake Leclerc in the driver standings. Hamilton had the fastest lap in last year's race while Leclerc holds the record at the track with a lap of 1:36.169 in 2019. Leclerc had the fastest time in Friday's two practice sessions, just 0.047 seconds faster than his teammate, Carlos Sainz. The first of those four races is set for Sunday at the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

Stroll remained seventh after his stunning effort in the middle of Q3, which would, on Sunday, amount to Aston Martin’s best start of the season. They normally get us in the race because Max does a good job and Red Bull have a very good car in race trim. Verstappen improved after two warm-up laps but qualified 0.092s off the pace in P3, which is set to become P2 on the grid when Leclerc drops down. Joining them in the provisional drop zone was 11th-placed Albon, 12th-placed Tsunoda and 13th-placed Stroll, with Norris on the bubble in P10. Alonso was next on the board in P7 ahead of an improving Norris, who finished ahead of AlphaTauri’s Gasly. Russell jumped to sixth after a couple of warm-up laps, Stroll taking a provisional seventh with a later effort, Alonso eighth, Norris ninth and Bottas 10th. Alonso improved but took P7 in Q2, ahead of Stroll and Bottas. Ricciardo was unable to progress in P17 and Ocon was a shock elimination in P18. Once Sainz came round to finish his flying lap, the Spaniard found half a second and jumped both his team mate and the reigning champion by setting the benchmark of 1m 35.297s. Hamilton had his final time deleted but stayed fourth overall ahead of Red Bull’s Perez, with Russell staying sixth in the other Mercedes. Max Verstappen finished third in qualifying but will start on the front row, while Perez finished fourth before his penalty. Mick Schumacher spun on his final Q1 lap and qualified 19th, while Nicholas Latifi qualified last and is set to start 20th for Williams.

Qualy: Carlos Sainz claims pole position in emotional qualifying ... (PlanetF1)

Carlos Sainz secured his second Formula 1 pole position in a poignant qualifying session for the United States Grand Prix.

AlphaTauri duo Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda also exited along with Zhou Guanyu – who thought he was through but lost a lap time due to exceeding track limits. They were joined by Haas duo Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher – who had a spin – and Williams’ Nicholas Latifi, the Canadian dropping from 15th to last on the final run. But then attention quickly had to revert to matters on track, with Perez knowing he was facing a five-place grid penalty for taking new engine parts more than the permitted maximum for the season. The reigning double World Champion was out early for his last shot at pole and eased in his tyres with an out-lap and a prep lap, allowing most of his rivals to come past and set their final time first. As the sun began to set and Ed Sheeran thought about tuning up for his post-qualifying concert at COTA, Ferrari set the two fastest times of the opening runs in Q3, Leclerc ahead of Sainz – and Hamilton was in third ahead of Verstappen. In Q2, Leclerc and Verstappen rose to the top with Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and George Russell confirming they were contenders for the front two rows due to the penalties affecting their rivals. High hopes for Albon when he rose to eighth, but he slipped to 11th and bowed out along with Vettel. As the air temperature reached its peak for the day, drivers were having to eke out the limited life of their soft tyres and Sainz did that superbly as he went almost half a second faster than anyone in Q1 entering the final seven minutes and remained at the top of the standings. His drop was the same as those affecting Fernando Alonso and Zhou Guanyu – but Charles Leclerc had a 10-place penalty for he took a new turbo as well as an ICE. [Daniel Ricciardo](https://live.planetf1.com/f1-drivers/daniel-ricciardo), who had a [troubled FP3](https://www.planetf1.com/news/fp3-report-2022-united-states-grand-prix/), needed a stellar final run to make it through to Q2 but failed to do so and joined another shock casualty, Esteban Ocon in the Alpine. Verstappen and fellow driver Sergio Perez were among the entire team staff who were called together for a sombre meeting to inform them of the sad development. The Ferrari driver also started from P1 at this year’s British Grand Prix and went on to win – and will be aiming to maintain that 100% record when he starts alongside Max Verstappen on the front row, with Charles Leclerc dropping down the order due to engine penalties.

MV: For me, Dietrich was always super kind and caring and he didn't like to be in the foreground, like he always was there but he didn't want to be in front of the cameras. MV: It was just very difficult, I think, to switch on the tyres, I think, for everyone out there. CS: I'm going to keep my thoughts to myself on that one, and I'm going to let the FIA know what is my preference, but I really trust that the FIA are doing everything they can do to keep improving. CS: Yeah, I would like to, first of all, send my condolences to his family and to the whole Red Bull family, because I knew Dietrich quite a lot and I've been also helped a lot by his support in the past. I think keeping faith, and keeping trust that it was going to come was the key. You mentioned the situation with the tyres, I think you started the first attempt in Q3 with a used set of tyres. So, there's nothing to not be confident to try and go for the win tomorrow and try and put together a good race. There was a long paper that I haven't got the time to read yet. But for some reason or another, I was falling half a tenth short, and I really wanted to make one stick and today was great to get it and get that out of the way. How hard is it to put one whole lap together and is there something out there that could have been different that would have set you on the pole? They normally get us in the race because they have a very, yeah, Max does a great job and Red Bull has a very good car in race trim. I think what he has meant for Red Bull but also for the sport and especially also for me, what he has done for me in general, my career so far and generally my life, you know.
