Rhys Priestland masterclass helps Cardiff stun the Stormers (WalesOnline)

Rhys Priestland was the star of the show as Cardiff stunned the URC defending champions Stormers 30-24 on Saturday night.

They kick it to the corner and look to set up the driving maul. Cardiff’s indiscipline around the hour mark kept giving the Stormers easy access to the 22 and they capitalised with their third driving maul try of the night. The Stormers hit back with a carbon copy of their first try shortly after as Xaba got his second from the driving maul. He dropped a delicate cross-kick into the arms of Jason Harries, who rode the tackle of Clayton Blommetjies to dot down in the corner. Shortly after the half hour mark, Dayimani was sent to the sin bin for a head-on-head collision with Kristian Dacey, the Cardiff hooker left the field and did not return. It was the trusty driving maul that charged over the line in the 22nd minute, carrying flanker Nama Xaba with it in a show of pure South African power. Cardiff retook the lead early in the second half and, once again, their No.10 was the architect. He seemed to be going for a 50:22 when he spiralled one deep into the Stormers’ half but it sat up beautifully for speedster Cabango to race onto and score, giving his side an early 11-0 lead. Stormers disrupt the back of Cardiff's scrum and force them back to the 22 after a number of phases. The Stormers had fired some warning shots, though, with breaks from Dan du Plessis and No.8 Hacjivah Dayimani. And they were soon ahead. But Priestland put on a masterclass, scoring 20 points and setting up two tries.

URC result: Cardiff end Stormers unbeaten run in Arms Park thriller (Citizen)

The Stormers slipped to an agonising 30-24 (halftime 14-14) defeat against Cardiff in their URC clash at Arms Park in Wales on Saturday night.

A Priestland penalty in the 53rd minute then stretched their lead to five points, but the Stormers maul kept rumbling as first Dayimani was held up after breaking off the back, before replacement flank Junior Pokomela dotted down in the 61st minute for an unconverted score to make it 24-all. Cardiff then got the second half off to a cracking start, as Priestland again the architect, sending a pinpoint cross kick into the arms of wing Jason Harries to go over for a try, with the conversion making it 21-14 after 44 minutes. It was an upset result as the Stormers were expected to walk away with a full house of points, but Cardiff flyhalf Rhys Priestland put in a majestic performance to lead his side to a famous win, that ended the visitors 15-game unbeaten run in the competition.

Cardiff beat Stormers to end Cape side's 15-game unbeaten run (Independent Online)

The Stormers suffered their first United Rugby Championship loss in 15 games when they went down to Cardiff in the Welsh capital on Saturday.

And at Cardiff Arms Park, Rhys Priestland was instrumental in sinking the Stormers. With the win, Cardiff move up to 6th on the standings, while the Stormers are sitting on fourth. There were a lot of mistakes from the Stormers side early on and it was Cardiff who scored first, getting three penalties and a good looking try, and while the Capetonians got back into it to go into half time level with the hosts (14-14), they no doubt would have wanted major improvement in the second 40.
