Dustin Johnson's 4Aces GC won the LIV Golf Team Championship in Miami and will take home the $16 team prize.
But with it being the team aspect and I knew the whole team — like I had to make that for the team to win — I didn’t like it very much. The win earns the team the top prize of $16 million, with $4 million going to each player. “I do not like stress, so that was a little more stress than I was looking for,” he continued. Patrick Reed then delivered a birdie on his final hole to reclaim the lead at 7 under and eventually earn the win after his teammate Johnson made par on the last. He made everything he looked at so I knew he was making it. The latter fell off later in the round, leaving a two-way race to the finish.

Koepka carded four bogeys over a six-hole stretch while his brother Chase Koepka signed for a pair of double bogeys and sent their name down the leaderboard. All members of the 4 Aces will be eating good, but especially Johnson as his on-course earnings adds up to roughly $35 million for the season. With its victory at the 2022 LIV Golf Team Championship, the 4 Aces won a total of five times in its first season together. Despite the team championship turning into a two-team race, there were still plenty of pivotal moments unfolding late in the day. This total was enough to skirt past Punch GC by a single stroke and both the Crushers GC and Stinger GC with margin. Led by captain Dustin Johnson, the all-American squad of Talor Gooch, Patrick Reed and Pat Perez successfully fended off Cameron Smith's Punch GC, translating a memorable regular season into an even more lucrative year.

And the famous Ryder Cup course is set to be announced as a new LIV venue this year, dealing a blow to DP World Tour chief Keith Pelley. A strategic alliance with the Middle Eastern and African Tour has not yet borne fruit and points would validate players joining as they will have a direct route to qualify for major championships. Seven new players are expected to join before the new season and the Guardian suggests that young American stars Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay have been whispered as possible targets. We have got to get on TV, we have to get corporate partners. However LIV president Atul Khosla is confident of a long-term TV deal that would provide the tour with a huge lift. Such eye-watering sums of money have opened the door to what once appeared a closed shop, with nearly £2billion pledged by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund to make the Gulf State a golfing pillar.

Brooks Koepka, who started the round on the 10th tee, bogeyed the ninth hole and lost three more shots on his next five holes after making the turn. Early on, it looked like Sunday's final would be a two-horse race between 4 Aces and Smash GC, with the two teams creating some distance on the competition. Smith did his best to almost single-handedly lift Punch GC to the title. He finished at two over, which was enough to stymie the best efforts of teammates Smith, Matt Jones and Wade Ormsby. Marc Leishman was sitting at three over through two holes and added another bogey on No. 2 and then double-bogeyed No. For Stinger GC, the quest for the title was effectively over before the halfway mark after Branden Grace bogeyed No. One or two bad showings can torpedo a squad's hopes of finishing on top. Smith nailed a par putt to put the pressure squarely on Johnson. Swinging out of the rough to the right of the fairway, he deposited his approach into the gallery surrounding the green. But there were stars and some strain of competitive golf — and the PGA Tour’s logo nowhere to be found. The site of the team championship, run by the Trumps for years, was a PGA Tour mainstay for decades, and Trump courses are expected to be fixtures of LIV’s 2023 season. “They should have embraced instead of fighting,” he said of the PGA Tour after he played the 17th hole during a pro-am event. And the PGA Tour can still depict the series as a brutal regime’s project to look better on the global stage. Open starting next year, the upstart will have to find a way to diminish the siren songs of the green jacket and the claret jug. 1 ranking after a tour event last weekend, have been two of LIV Golf’s foremost critics — and two leading architects of a new strategy to fortify and reinvent a PGA Tour that had some popular players feeling undervalued and some younger ones struggling for financial breakthroughs. Its business model could expand to draw in new investors for LIV teams, and if the series can find a way into the world ranking system, its appeal among prospective players could rise further. (But perhaps Johnson does not mind all that much: He captured LIV’s individual championship and has won at least $30 million on the circuit this year, after accruing about $75 million in career earnings during a PGA Tour tenure that started in 2007.) What many golf executives are figuring out, though, is that it is possible to revile much about LIV, from its financial patron to its devotion to 54-hole tournaments to its defiant dispensing of starchy atmospheres, and yet recognize that the PGA Tour had left itself vulnerable to at least a spasm of drama. The PGA Tour, now redesigning its economic model so urgently that it is tapping reserve funds, still commands the bigger roster of current stars and the loyalties of the tournaments that matter most to history. It has not, though, been a romp without resistance or an instantaneous and definitive dethroning of the old order. The Saudi-backed golf series, which will expand next year, has forced the PGA Tour to redesign its economic model.

Moreover, the golf at times was not all that compelling, which may well explain the fact that LIV has still not landed a TV deal in the U.S. More controversy will no doubt arise as the lawsuit between LIV and the PGA Tour plays out in U.S. “We’ve weathered all the storms, and we’re here. LIV Golf’s launch, and its subsequent feud with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour evolved into the biggest story of the year not just in golf, but sports as a whole. Rumors abound of top players contemplating leaving the leaving the PGA Tour for the riches of LIV and its seven-, eight- and sometimes nine-figure guaranteed contracts. The biggest blow to the PGA Tour arguably came when it lost Smith in September after the Tour Championship. Top players did eventually defect from the PGA Tour, and that was the biggest vindication for LIV officials. “It ended up coming down to me and Cam playing the 18th hole to see who wins the team championship,” Johnson said.
While his 4 Aces team dominated all season, Perez' scores only counted six times in 18 rounds. But on Sunday he couldn't hide, and shot a solid 70.
